Customer Reviews

20 in. 48-Volt Cordless Battery Self Propelled Mower is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 460.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from DEFECTIVE BATTERIES! To be honest, this is a great mower. But your battery *will* die and Ryobi WILL NOT honor your warranty. When it worked, it was awesome. But the battery will cost you half of a new mower and even if you take it to an authorized warranty center, you will never get a replacement. You'll be put on a indefinite wait list and never get a battery. The place near me (only one service place in a 30 mile radius around a major metro area) had about 10 of them waiting... all with dead batteries and no-one ever got one. I'm well outside my return window with HD, so I'm stuck with it. AVOID THIS MOWER. Find a company willing to stand behind their product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor quality and very bad customer support Pros: - cuts the grass and mulches it nicely - easy to start - self-propulsion is a nice to have Cons: - really poor quality and bad customer support; used it for only 2 years and now it's dead - handle cracked after only a few months - started squeaking after a few months - charger started malfunctioning after less than a year; waited for almost 4 months for a replacement; had to argue many times over the phone with their customer support - battery connection overheated and melted the plastic holding the connection pins which then tore off, so now I cannot connect the battery to the body anymore, thus the unit is now unusable - quite heavy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Does a great job - as advertised, the equivalent of any gasoline mower in its class. It seems very solid, and I expect it to last quite a few years. In addition to mowing grass it does a wonderful job of mulching leaves. The self-propelled feature is if anything a bit too powerful - until you get used to it it can feel as if you're taking a big dog for a walk. Only real downside is that the machine is HEAVY. However nearly half of the weight is in the battery pack, which can be removed when not in use. So the weight isn't as much of a disadvantage for transport and storage as you might think. Strongly recommended!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from nice concept, poor execution Loved it at first - quiet, no bad smell, no vibration. The self-propel was grabby & too fast for me. battery lasted long enough to get either front or back yard (not both) couldn't buy an extra one at that time. It was like vacuuming the lawn. The foam handle cover tore off within the first couple uses (I duct-taped it). after a while, the battey would not charge enough to complete the yard. The self-propel function stopped working. Grass packed up around the drive belt & was hard to clean off. then the batter leaked. took it to Home Depot this past Monday, they sent it to the local authorized service shop. not having fun with this...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BAD PRODUCT, BAD SERVICE I purchased this mower at Home Depot. Had the mower for about 90 days, maybe, the battery went out. Talked to Home Depot, needed to talk to the Ryobi company. Talked to the company. First two people I talked to gave me the run around. Third person seemed to know what to do, told me she was sending me a new battery and charger, two weeks. After four weeks and serveral more calls, I was told another two weeks, back order and all. Long story short, this was November, I was told that I was on the list to get a battery in LATE FEBUARY, MAYBE. You have to be kidding, no customer service at all, bad company, bad product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great concept, really bad battery I've had this mower for only one season. I loved the quiet sound and it cut well. The mower is very heavy, so cutting on a hill was a problem. Even with my small lawn, the battery died before the lawn was cut. By the end of the summer however, the battery was dead! It leaked acid and had to be replaced. Of course, a new battery was both expensive and...not available until spring. I bought a new gas mower and sent this mower to the landfill after only one season. Not environmentally friendly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Battery Mower mows our 5,600 sq ft yard just fine. Almost as good as our old gas. I don't use the self propel function, as I like the exercise. Battery is horrid. One day it stopped working. Upon opening the battery I found one of the two batteries had ruptured. This is horrid quality and dangerous to have around. I believe it's a moral issue for the company, to sell such poor quality to families. I've never seen any battery do this - and I've had SLA batteries that have lasted 10x's as long.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Concept but poor design I purchased my mower about 10 weeks ago when my other Ryobi (mulchinator) finally died after 15 years (great product) so I had very little hesitation getting another Ryobi mower. Over the weekend, it would not start. I pulled out the battery and noticed a lot of moisture under it. When I tilted the battery, quite a bit of liquid (acid) came out. I removed the battery housing and found bulging battery housings, corroded terminals, leaking battery seals and a cracked battery housing. I called Ryobi and they are sending me a new battery and charger, although they are back-ordered. Hmmm, this is definitely not the same product quality and good design of my previous Ryobi mower. Make sure you read the reviews before purchasing. I did. And saw many battery related issues but ignored them due to good performance on my previous unit. My mistake.
