The Ryobi made transitioning from a gas mower a pleasant experience. My main concern was whether it has as much cutting power as a gas mower, and certainly it does.
- instant start up
- no fumes
- lower noise than gas (still sounds like a big electric fan though)
- cuts very well
- battery can be removed for charging
- metal deck
- you get to wear that smug "I'm greener than you" look
- battery lasts about 5,000 sq.ft., if your lawn is bigger than that, you either need a second battery or wait for it to recharge
- when reversing directions, need to disengage the self-propelled drive otherwise it fights you
Overall, excellent value for the money.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by smartcatxxx Very poor quality and very bad customer support
- cuts the grass and mulches it nicely
- easy to start
- self-propulsion is a nice to have
- really poor quality and bad customer support; used it for only 2 years and now it's dead
- handle cracked after only a few months
- started squeaking after a few months
- charger started malfunctioning after less than a year; waited for almost 4 months for a replacement; had to argue many times over the phone with their customer support
- battery connection overheated and melted the plastic holding the connection pins which then tore off, so now I cannot connect the battery to the body anymore, thus the unit is now unusable
- quite heavy

To be honest, this is a great mower. But your battery *will* die and Ryobi WILL NOT honor your warranty.
When it worked, it was awesome. But the battery will cost you half of a new mower and even if you take it to an authorized warranty center, you will never get a replacement. You'll be put on a indefinite wait list and never get a battery. The place near me (only one service place in a 30 mile radius around a major metro area) had about 10 of them waiting... all with dead batteries and no-one ever got one.
I'm well outside my return window with HD, so I'm stuck with it. AVOID THIS MOWER. Find a company willing to stand behind their product.

I had a Neuton for several years; it died on me when I went to use it this Spring. I was going to get another Neuton mower, but decided to shop around. I researched several electric mowers, read many positive reviews regarding the Ryobi 48V self-propelled 20 in. mower, and concluded the Ryobi was the one to try. And... it's been great! The mower came charged and ready to go; I cut my entire lawn (~1/4 acre) no problem. My Ryobi has a LOT of power and peforms as well as any gas mower I've owned. Better yet, it's about $100 less than the comparable Neuton version. If you have a small to medium sized lawn, I definitely recommend this product!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ldsp I have had this mower for 11/2 weeks and mowed my lot size lawn 3 times. the first 2 times I ran out of juice before I finished. Each time I put the battery back on charge the battery took more charge by way of a longer charging time. This last time I got the whole yd. done but the last part of lawn i had to push along with the selfpropelled. this time it took 7 hr. to charge which is the longest time yet so I hope the battery is still being conditioned. If you run the battery down completely it is supposed to take 10-12 hrs. I will see the next time. the lawnmower cuts good as long as the grass is not wet and the battery still has a good charge.

Works as described.I owned one of the original Ryobi rechargeable mowers in the 90's and liked that model. This is worlds apart ! I was very surprised how easily it was able to go up the hills in my yard. That feature alone makes it worthwhile. It is a little louder than the other battery powered mowers I have owned but the cool yellow color makes up for that.I don't have a huge yard(about 100X100) but there was plenty of "juice" in the battery to mow the entire yard .Best of all -the battery is easily removed.I don't know how much an extra would cost-probably not cheap;but with an extra the mowable area would equal all but the largest yards

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by starbeks Great mower! If your battery overcharges contact Ryobi.
Like many of you, the only problem I have had with this mower was that it overcharged. The first time I was still able to use the mower, but the charge wouldn't last as long. I would have to charge it twice in order to mow the entire lawn. The second time it overcharged, the battery would no longer work. I called Ryobi and they are sending me a new battery and charger. I am very happy with Ryobi customer service. As I said, I love this mower. Before I would leave the mowing to my husband, but with this Ryobi electric mower, I now enjoy mowing my lawn. It is very easy to use, better for the environment, and requires no messy oil or gas.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mekim I used this mower on a 3/4-acre historic cemetery which I have volunteered to help maintain on an interim basis which is not what the mower was designed for. That being said, the mower did an excellent job of mowing even fairly heavy weed growth. The downside was, of course, the necessity to recharge several times at 12 hours per recharge and the weight of the mower due to the battery; although the lift-out battery made this easier, and the battery lift-out and drop-in system is very robust. Also noted was the the sound level of the mower which is not much lower that a gasoline-powered mower and the tendency of the side discharge deflector to pop off.
