TrailMoose, the best way I'd describe whether it works well, is that I'd rather have it than not, but "works well" would be subjective to what you are expecting. It does not shoot the debris away, but with your input, it will be helpful in sweeping it away. Hope that makes sense!

It kinda gets in the way sometimes. But its removable too. I guess the idea is to get the cut branches to the ground, instead of stuck in the hedge. I didn't notice much difference with the HedgeSweep.

Answer:
Well enough. It's certainly a considerable asset. But the extent of clearance of cuttings depends not on the sweeper but the density of the foliage. When I trim across the tops of my rhodies, many of the cuttings remain on the plants because there is no way for them to drop below. When trimming along the sides, the cuttings fall to the ground.

Hey TrailMoose- Yes, the Hedge Sweep feature clears away leaves and branches as you cut to make your trimming job easier! This piece is removable if you prefer to not use it. Thanks for the question!

I am overpowered with blackberry bushes and cannot figure out a way to cut them back so that I can attack their root system. Is this a viable tool for this task? I was told if I move the hedger back and forth until I get them down almost to ground level, this would be the way to do this job with this hedger. Has anyone ever done this? Would it get tangled up instead?

I had a similar situation and it has worked well for me. I've been impressed with the cutting power. Holding up high gets a little tiresome as i start at the top and work my way down to avoid a chain link fence. Not a showstopper though and it works fast. Great not to have to manage a power cord and avoid trimming it as well. :)

If the bushes are viney and tangly, like a rose bush or ivy vines, the hedge trimmer can be used for demolition! Usually shears are used to trim these types, so that raggedy edges on the plant are not left for infection from bacteria. Alternatively, if you are willing to risk it, use the hedge trimmer for demo, then come back with shears to clean it up. If you want to get to the root to dig it up, just hedge it down to the base on one side, and start digging it up. No need to hedge the whole thing if you are digging it up, you can use the remaining plant to help pull it out of the ground. (Using gloves, or double gloves if there's thorns.)
If your hedge gets tangled up, keep hedging. It should work. Read Less
