Rated 5 out of 5Â by Pumpkincycle Great Product with Wonderful Ryobi Customer Support
I had a 14v hedge trimmer that repeatedly got stuck on the smallest twigs, was useless after 10 minutes, and the battery was hard to change. The 40v Ryobi intrigued me by its run time promise and that it cut dime sized thick branches.
Used the hedge trimmer for the first time today and what a great great product.
Battery is easy to put on and take off. It never got stuck on any branches or leaves. Did a fast cut of the whole front and back yard before dusk, and after 15-20 minutes hedge cutter was still going strong with battery still showing it was at full power.
I was a little wary of the weight of the hedge trimmerâits closer in weight to a gas hedge trimmer than the underpowered battery operated ones. The hedge trimmer, however, is nicely balanced with a comfortable handle and easy to use safety trigger, and fatigue was never a problem.
I needed to deal with Ryobi customer support and they got back to me quickly and made sure I was a satisfied customer.

I love this new Ryobi Hedge Trimmer!
We have a HUGE overgrown hedge. This year it rose to 12 feet and blossomed to about 7 feel wide. It was about to collapse on itself.
We put this 40 volt hedge trimmer to the test and it was simply awesome.
The past 10 years I've burned my way through about 10 electric hedge trimmers and destroyed about as many extension cords (I'm no Jedi). Our hedge has been the evil master chewing up equipment. Seriously, we expect to buy a new trimmer (or two) every year on it.
This Ryobi whizzed through most of the branches like butter. Of course there were some requiring our manual lopper, but overall, the trimmer was great with plenty of torque.
Can't say enough about the battery life either, We did about 20 feet in a few hours (including clean-up and bagging). The battery lasted almost to the end before it gave out.
The neat thing about this is the interchangeability of batteries among tools. We also have a couple of other tools in their system, so we just switched out the battery.
Charging at 90 minutes is FAST considering we're talking a powerful 40 volts.
Not really a down side, but this trimmer weighs about 2 lbs more than the other Ryobi cordless options. My wife noticed the weight (OK, she did most of the cutting). It was no problem for me and much lighter than a gas powered trimmer.
Oh! Finally, in case you didn't notice, the warranty is for 3 YEARS, so Ryobi expects this baby to last.
All in all, this is the best hedge trimmer I've ever used up to this point.

I could have sworn I used the tool for an hour and she was still kicking with full power...
Expecting a minimum, this tool slapped me in the face and gave me awesome-sauce. I purchased this tool, charged the battery, and used the next day. If you've ever used the corded or 18-volt cordless leaf blowers and hedge trimmers, then you know how NOT effective they are. This Ryobi 40-volt is a new bread. I love the line up, the blower in the store tried to leave my hand, and am trying to stay away from the mess and hassle of gas powered tools. Great tool, purely amazing. I will get more of this line, THANK YOU!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by w111 Tough tool, does exactly as advertised.
Had tried another brand from the competitor, was a big mistake. This Ryobi does exactly what the information says it will. 3/4 inch limbs, just go a little slower, normal pruning, no problem whatsoever. I am totally surprised at the battery life, have only used 4 times but each time I kept wishing the battery would run down so "I" could rest. I am 6 foot 1 inch and 240 lbs. and 63but my 5 4, 130 lb. wife has no problem with this. I just take an old clean paint brush and brush off the dust and spray a little W.D. 40 on the blade for the next use. Time will tell but appears to be durably made.

I first used this July 19 2014. I cut shruds, bushes and tree branches on front back left and right. At first I was skeptical if I want to go for gas powered for power, but it was too expensive.
I like the performance and it did the job well for 1/2" thick it can do one pass, but for 3/4" (depends on what tree) may stay a spit second. The buit in fence was very helpful. Even my wife used to cut the back. I dont need to pull string for my back problem. Comes with 5 yr warranty on tool and 3 yr on 40 Volt Battery if registered to Ryobitools
The 40 Volt battery is too costly $100 to $130
