This trimmer replaces my old Gas/oil mix trimmer which went on the junk pile for failure to function. I had no idea that this Ryobi 2-cycle
straight shaft would work so well and be functional to accommodate another 7 tools should you need anyone or all. They sell separately
and can attach easily and go. So far I have only used this trimmer to easily cut tall grass and trim the edges of the lawn. Also the straight
shaft allows you to reach easily under hedges etc to get rid of the weeds that stubbornly grow in such hard to get areas.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DennisJ Easy To Set Up and Easier to Use
The set-up was quicker and easier than I expected. Within 10 minutes, you're ready to add fuel and put it to use. No tools are needed at all. It's like plug and play. You can add optional attachments, easily and quickly to the same unit. Everything is clearly labeled and leaves nothing to question. It has a handy label that has starting instructions. It started on the second pull. The motor is a smooth running 2 cycle. I started and stop it a couple of times after that and it started on the first pull. I had a fresh patch of weeds that needed to be whacked and this trimmer took care of them without issue. It has a low emission engine and burns clean for a 2-cycle. An 18 inch cutting width, just under 12 pounds before adding fuel, and uses the popular .095 inch string.

I've been using 2 cycle gas machines for 35 years. this trimmer like all 2 cycle products, must be drained of fuel and run dry of fuel after each use. Gas evaporates and leaves the oil and varnish in the carb which makes for a hard start and a short carb life. Plenty of power, fires right up with fresh fuel/mix and is nice to use with the attachments. Prime/pump until all the bubbles are out of the clear fuel lines, in very cold weather starter fluid speeds up the process. 1992 chain saw still fires right up because I take the time to drain the fuel after each use. Don't forget to clean the plug once per year and wire brush the the plug threads for a good ground connection.

I had been looking since buying a new home and getting 4x the yard I had. The old electric weed eater was horrible. so much extension cord to drag around and the line feed never worked right. I bought this based on reviews and price. I had it together, fuel mixed and fueled in 15 minutes. Followed the instructions and it started on the 8th pull of the cord. I let it warm up a little flicked the choke off and began to wipe out the tall grass growing in about 300ft of chain link fence. Then around 7 trees and bushes. Then the concrete foundation and paver stones. The cord is tuff as nails. I did have to adjust it out by hand 3x to accomplish all this. It does come with the head fully spooled and a bottle of the recommended 2-stroke oil. it requires no tools to assemble and the instructions are easy to follow. I was very impressed with this machine..

Always use high octane and ethanol free fuel or get an additive for the ethanol. I've owned cheap two cycle products my entire life and worked on many, the problem is 99% fuel issues, bad gas, old gas, E10 gas (10% ethanol) low octane gas, these are owner caused failures. Use good fresh higher octane ethanol free fuel, or with an additive. Drain the tank and run it until it dies if you plan to store it. Don't store it in a hot environment, ie outside sheds where hot weather is prevalent. If you follow these rues you WILL get yrs of life from any product.

I threw it in the trash after 10 or 15 uses. Every time I tried to edge the grass it would die and then refuse to restart. If I waited 10 minutes, it would restart after constant pulling on the cord but would die again minutes after restarting the edging. It also goes through gasoline quickly but has a small tank. I could live with the small tank if the thing would only continue to run the entire time it has gas. I have watched closely and it was not dying because the gas was too low. It simply does not like being turned sideways to use as an edger.

Trimmer came with everything in the pictures including the trimmer line and anti-ethanol 2-cycle oil. Initial use of this was great! I bought the 50:1 gas/oil can that was right next to this trimmer to use with it instead of mixing myself. It's about 5 bucks and has no ethanol in it. I used the trimmer for about 30 minutes and was amazed at the power (I have experience with a cheap plug-in trimmer). The pumping that is required is to fill the lines with fuel. I did about 15 pumps on the first one since the initial 10 left a lot of air pockets. Other negative reviews lack what percentage of ethanol was in the gas as this adversely affects the performance and longevity. I recommend ear protection of some kind.
