I needed a new drill to tackle a bunch of home improvement projects (bathroom remodel, new overhead recessed lighting, transformation of finished basement rec room to a home theater, stringing Cat 6 cable etc). The Ryobi VSR 3/8in clutch driver has performed flawlessly in all tasks. It has good ergonomic design, balance and feel, and bit/driver change is fast and sure. Extra long cord is nice feature as often I did not need an extension cord for the task. Torque/power to spare, and good trigger control for variable speeds. Only had it two months so can only estimate long term reliability but so far it looks solid. This is the perfect, cost effective tool for the homeowner level DIY project. Highly recommended.

This drill is easy to use, excellent quality, very powerful and I loved the bag it comes with. One of my favorite cord drills I ever had and already made a night stand with it. I'm very pleased!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by fcb2868 Chuck Failed After Four Months
I bought the Ryobi D47CK in June 2014. Until this morning, October 7, it worked fine. Mechanical items fail and it was still in warranty so I got the name of an authorized repair center from Ryobi. So far, so good. However, when I got there they said they no longer provided service for Ryobi. At my local HD I got the name of two more centers. Neither of them provide service for Ryobi any longer either. So when it works it's fine but when it fails you're out of luck. That's why I gave it a poor rating.
However, when I related the above to my local HD Store manager he took it back even though it was beyond the 90 period for returns.
Score: Home Depot 10, Ryobi 0

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ross very powerful, comfortable, well constructed, good materials
Bought for the home use, the drill had shown itself as very powerful, comfortable to use, nicely balanced, the bubble level on top is useable even if you are not directly above the bubble - you can see the bubble level from behind the drill; easy to control "Rounds Per Minute" with the trigger switch - press more, RPMs are higher, press a little, and chuck rotates that feels like 1 round per minute; strong chuck - haven't seen the drill bits slip; overall, very satisfied - well built, well balanced, powerful, not too loud, easy to use - highly recommend. Quality materials, too. Liked the storage bag - fits drill and drill bits box,

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TerryB A good drill motor, much better than any cordless
I think many people use a cordless drill without realizing that a corded model is lighter and never runs down in the middle of a task. This drill is smooth to operate, variable speed is consistent and gradual as you press the trigger. Plenty of torque too. And no battery charge to maintain - yahoo!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jeffectiveness Could be more compact
I have ordered a tool-only replacement for my other wonderful cordless drill (which lasted well over 15 years and the batteries are still fine), and while waiting for it to arrive, I bought the Ryobi as a stopgap since the work I'm doing right now is indoors anyway. The tool is easy to use, strong, nicely adjustable with respect to the clutch settings. The only thing I miss is more compact size. This drill is bigger than my workhorse that gave out, and was unable to fit into a couple tight spaces - I should probably get a 90-degree adapter anyway, but now I shall have to.
Great drill for the money.

I have used it several times now. In my opinion it works very well.
The only problem I have with all such drivers I have used is keeping them from destroying the slot or Philips opening in the head of a screw when insufficient pressure against the screw causes the driver bit to jump out slightly. This may readily occur for example if one is reaching up to install a screw and cannot get good pressure against it.
But this seems more to be a problem with the design of screws and screw heads than with the drill driver. Perhaps I have yet to learn which screw heads are hard enough not to be torn up in this manner.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lowrider Ryobi 3/8 in VSR Clutch Driver
Lowest price point I saw at HD for a variable speed with clutch. Had now for a week and I'm relatively pleased with this unit. Drives screws into 2x4s much better than a cordless. Chuckless driver speeds interchanging drill bits and screwdriver heads.
Only complaints are the 'lock' button which keeps the drill engaged. Several times while squeezing the trigger, driving screws, I accidentally hit this button and drill was running after I released the trigger. A bigger button or change in location might be better design. Drill screwdriver heads that come with unit are cheap and already show significant wear.
