Another good Ryobi product for the home owner at a great price!
I bought this belt sander to refinish an armorer that had a thick layer of paint over the wood. My palm sander was taking far too much time to get through the paint.
Unboxing- The unit was already assembled; just install the belt by pulling the release handle. It absolutely could not be any easier to change belts on this unit. Dial in the tracking knob and you are in business. The factory belt is a fine belt, probably 120 in grit.
Usage – The bag on the sander does a great job at keeping the dust down. The motor is not the highest RPM but it does have adequate power for home owner duties. The power button has a lock on it which came in handy on my large job. Another note, the motor does not make that annoying high pitch sound requiring ear plugs like some sanders do.
Using this belt sander with a Ryobi dual action sander has really made my refinishing job a piece of cake.

My deck railing and banister is very weathered and rough. My orbital sander just would take too long so I reviewed the different belt sanders. This one won due to good reviews and price. It is up to the task, has plenty of power, very good dust collection and is easy to operate. There is a down side, it has a button to lock it on but I had to squeeze the trigger with one hand while pushing to lock button with the other hand. Over engineered safety, I guess. The belt never lost track once the initial tracking was adjusted with the little knob. The dust collecting bag works without letting any dust leak; it catches most of the dust (90% or more) and the dust exit does fit a vacuum if desired. I found it easy to maneuver and operate. Changing the belt is also easy, just flip the lever and the belt slides off/on.

For the price this is a great tool. I compared several other brands and decided on this for price and ease of use. Belt changes take seconds and once in use, the belt tracks perfectly on mine. Minor adjustment can be made with a rotary knob at the front of the tool if needed. I rarely need to use it. The dust collector bag is good: I don't think any of these bags are perfect but it does collect about 1/2 of the dust in my best guess. It's better than that 1/2 going on your garage floor. The sander is a bit loud so wear hearing protection. That is a minor quibble however. All in all I'm very satisfied with it. I bought it to refinish 4ea Adirondack deck chairs and the labor savings is huge.

I needed a belt sander to smooth out some ridges left from a power planer. I was choosing between this new Ryobi and the Ridgid. I thought the variable speed, automatic tracking, vacuum port, and slightly more powerful motor on the Ridgid would be worth the price. I sent my wife to pick it up, but she decided the Ryobi was good enough for half the price. I'm glad she did. This sander works well and has plenty of power.

The product works fine and I would recommend it. However when I removed it from the package it seemed the unit had been used before. The base plate shows signs of wear and the cord has paint on it. None of which could have happened unless a mistake at the factory, it was refurbished and sold as new, or someone returned it and Home Depot put it back on the shelf as new.
Since I was too far from the store to return and get another I was forced to keep it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ExecuteOrder66 This little unit did the trick and helped me complete a project.
I blew up a ToolShop Belt Sander & needed a replacement to complete the stripping of some paint on a deck before re-staining it. This little tool did the job. It's not as big as the one that it replaced, so more time was required to strip a comparable area, however, its smaller size and lower front profile helped in getting it into nooks & crannies where the larger unit failed to reach. Additionally, a mouse, or square, power sander is a good companion to this unit to get all of the way into those hidden corners.
Note that this is *not* an industrial unit, but a light duty home tool.

Can't beat the price for this gem. Only used it once to sand down the top of my workbench but it made quick work out of something that could have taken a long time by hand. Dust collector worked ok. Will have to do more sanding to understand if it really is pulling a significant amount of dust. Belt is easy to adjust if it is not perfectly centered out of the box. Belt looks easy to replace. As this is my first belt sander, I can't complain about anything yet. Works fine.

I AM REFINISHING A LARGE WOODEN ROW BOAT AND NEEDED TO REMOVE ALL THE PAINT AND INSERT NEW BOARDS AND MAKE SOME EPOXY FILLINGS . ALL OF THIS REQUIRED EXTENSIVE SANDING.. THIS WAS THE BEST SANDER I HAVE EVER HAD.. BELT CHANGES ARE EASY , THE TRACKING IS GREAT AND EASY TO ADJUST, THE DUST BAG IS GREAT AND EASY TO EMPTY.. AT THIS TIME I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE FINISHED THE BOTTOM AND ONCE PAINTED WILL BE TURNING MY ATTENTION TO THE SIDES.
