This thing rolls like no ones business.
I've used off and on for over a year until recently.
I purchased some old oak fencing that was painted white. The boards have seen better days. I'm cutting up the boards to turn into herb boxes and wanted to sand them down to be painted. This sander cranked on like no tomorrow. Never missed a beat, never heated up, just keep on ripping off the paint.
I used the diablo belts, I believe 50 grit. Those are great also! Used only one for dozens of boards.
This sander, though not commercial, worked wonderfully and I would not hesitate to buy it again.

Good belt sander, does the job. It is very loud, as most belt sanders are, so recommend ear plugs. The dust collector is pretty much worthless, no vacuum pressure, so make sure you have a dust collection system or work outdoors. The belt alignment feature works well, just make very small adjustments and back off if you overcorrect.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by West a decent little project sander
I bought this sander friday night. I used it for about 4 hours saturday on and off (mostly on) it worked great. I was able to sand a buch of stuff with realative ease. Then on sunday i used it for about 6 hours at the same rate of off and on. I noticed a weird rattle inside the sander about an hour in. I then noticed the belt wasnt turning as fast as it was the day before. It still worked ok but it wasnt at peak speed anymore. After the third hour i noticed that it was getting really hot. I decided to give it a 45 min break while i did some detail cutting work on another piece. I came back and it worked better but that rattle was even more pronounced. At the end of the fifith hour the rattle was very noticable and the sander was back to being slow again. I let it rest again for 45 mins and then turned it back on. The belt was at half speed (even slower than it was when i gave it a break) and the rattle was pretty loud. I was getting close to finishing up the sanding with the 50 grade and was hoping i could at least get that done before it konked out as i was covered in saw dust (more on that later) and didnt want to stop when i was that close. I used it for 20 more minutes and when i turned it off to readjust my piece it didnt turn on again. So i got roughly 10 hours of use out of this for 50 bucks. Thats not a good trade. Im guessing it i didnt use it for such a prolonged period of time it might have lasted longer. I shouod have known better not to buy a cheaper priced item when i was going to be doing a big project but i was already over budget and i have had great success with Ryobi products in the past. Unfortunatly this particular item didnt hold up the same way the other products i have used in the past have. (I recently purchased a Ryobi table saw and after getting used to the specifics of this particular unit I have come to trust it and have been very satisfied). Now as for the saw dust, good gracious, the bag is a bit of a joke. It held some of the dist sure, but the vast majority is now all over everuthing in my garage and me. I may never get all the saw dust out of my hair. I dumped the little bag every time i felt it getting about half full. Granted i was using a pretty aggressive grit so maybe if its just finishing grit you will have better luck. I never got to try that so i cant comment on that. All in all the sander is pretty light for a belt sander and is very manuverable. When it was working as designed it did a good job (hence the two stars instead of one) but it should have lasted significantly longer than it did. After reading some of the other reviews on here i have seen that people who have used this sander on larger projects have seen the same issues i did. I have purchased the Rigid version for 100 now to finish up my project (what i guess i should have done the first time) so we will see how that one does.

The sand paper slips when sanding, that is the only downfall. I do like this product pretty well overall.

The switch to loosen the belt broke... Now I have to use a flat head screwdriver and play with the mechanism to loosen the belt area to change belts... Will look for another brand to replace that sander.

I bought this sander to sand the wood railing on my back covered patio. The railing was stained five years ago and touched up a year ago. Painting over stained wood can turn out bad so I wanted to sand it a little first. I have a palm sander but it was taking far too long. I looked at numerous sanders on the HD website. The price range for sanders is pretty wide, but I decided to get this one based on the positive reviews and my budget.
This sander is very easy to use. You attach the dust collector and sanding belt then go to work. The dust collector works very well but depending on the job, you might have to empty it often. While working on a horizontal surface, the belt stayed in place very well. When sanding the vertical railing, the belt would move slightly and required adjustment every few minutes.
I have another project I'll use this on in the near future. Honestly, I almost skipped this sander because I thought it was too inexpensive. I'm very pleased with the quality and how well it worked. I highly recommend this sander for light to medium projects.
