I had bought one of these for myself and just loved it. I do a lot of woodworking. My brother does also so when he saw the information on it he mentioned he would like to get one. He lives in an area that has no Home Depot. I surprised him by buying him one and having it shipped to him. Got their before the scheduled time. He also loves it! Easy to handle, cuts exact. Use it for arched cuts etc. Built the pictured chair and side table with it.

Bought this to cut a template for making plaques. Liked the variable speed feature, cut nicely, and effectively.

Be careful on the reviews.....The reviews may be for Model JS480l vs the model now being sold...JS481l. Note the on line manual is for Model JS480l. The JS480L model has a lifting type blade attachment mechanism while the JS481L has a twist lock blade attachment mechanism. I purchased and returned the JS481L model since I found it very very difficult to insert the blade....not impossible but extremely difficult.. In fact the tool dept guy mentioned they are getting returns for this problem. His comment was "I wouldn't buy this" Also, if I remember correctly the JS481L model accepts only the Tslot blades and not the U. I might be wrong on this but its worth checking out. I might have encountered a couple of bad JS481l units but beware and make sure the saw meets your needs before purchasing

I agree with Nick. The blade is/was difficult to insert. But more importantly was that the store had
the Model 480l on display. I tried it with the single finger level type blade system on the display unit and it worked great. But, when I got home opened the box, it was the model 481 with the rotating type blade attachment. Never used it. Took it to the return desk, and the clerk agreed. He couldn't get the blade in.
Ryobi tried to improve something that works for other brands. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't

Rated 3 out of 5Â by nick Blade insertion problem fixed?
The blade insertion problem may have been solved based on the revised instruction manual dated 2/14 as stated by a previous reviewer.....the new instruction manual does indicate the need to switch to position three. Being one of the individuals who had the blade insertion problem and returned the unit prior to that date I hope that is the case....I certainly did not see that detail in the instructions. Even the HD folks couldn't insert the blade. Being that inventory takes sometimes years to clear through the system I highly suggest bringing a blade to the store and try inserting it prior to purchase to see if it meets your needs. Also check the display model number with the model number on the box being purchased
