The jig saw came with a JS4814 blade but I bought a package of Bosch T501 blades for various types of cuts and materials that I use.

Stephanie, there should have been a JS4814 blade in the box with the jig saw. If there wasn't then go back to the Service Desk at the store where you purchased it and ask for one. I bought a package of Bosch T501 blades in addition to the one blade that came with the saw so that I could saw other types of materials. This jig saw is quite versatile and easy to use.

Depends on the length of the blade you are using, but with the Bosch "xtra clean" blade you could easily cut maybe a 2" thick lumber like a 2 x 4 stud.

The thickness of wood a jig saw can cut through typically is limited by the blade itself. I have used mine to cut an inside hole in a 1.5" thick plywood glue up. the saw was not taxed at all, the cut line was nice and straight...

I managed to slowly cut through a 2" thick piece of zebrawood so it can do that but I wouldn't recommend it unless your very patient and don't need a clean cut. The maximum thickness you can cut through depends mostly on the blade length. I used the stock blade to cut through the 2" zebrawood

I would not cut anything more than 3/4 inch pine. Also, expect the plug to fail within the first 20 working hours and the table to constantly loosen.

Customer Reviews

4.8-Amp variable speed Orbital Jigsaw is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good for the money! Was pleasantly surprised at the quality when compared to others in this price range. Easy to adjust speed and orbital action with nice graphical description on side. Would prefer a more positive feel when installing blade to know its locked in, but at high speed I've had no problem. Blade stays put. Seems well made. At this price, you can't go wrong. I would say the overall rating and quality on this saw is "very good", not just "good".

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Becareful Be careful on the reviews.....The reviews may be for Model JS480l vs the model now being sold...JS481l. Note the on line manual is for Model JS480l. The JS480L model has a lifting type blade attachment mechanism while the JS481L has a twist lock blade attachment mechanism. I purchased and returned the JS481L model since I found it very very difficult to insert the blade....not impossible but extremely difficult.. In fact the tool dept guy mentioned they are getting returns for this problem. His comment was "I wouldn't buy this" Also, if I remember correctly the JS481L model accepts only the Tslot blades and not the U. I might be wrong on this but its worth checking out. I might have encountered a couple of bad JS481l units but beware and make sure the saw meets your needs before purchasing

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy With This Saw I am very pleased with this saw as far as features and performance, and I do particurlarly like the light. It cuts through 3/4" plywood very easily. I did have some concern about replacement blades, but I have found Black & Decker t-shank blades fit. This is a great product for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Jig Saw Everything works great. The feature I did not expect is the 4-position selector on the side controls how orbital the blade goes - forward on the up-stroke, back on down-stroke. You can choose either fast or precise. It works great. A vacuum adapter is available, although it is hard to find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool!! I especially like the easy to use blade change system which accepts both bayonet and "U" shaped blades. Another nice feature is the separate variable speed dial which you set and then the trigger just turns it on and off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jigsaw I bought this Ryobi jigsaw as a replacement for my old Black & Decker jigsaw (which held up well for over 10 years.) But this Ryobi is much better. It has a built-in led light that keeps you on-target with your jigsaw cuts, and has a variable setting knob to adjust speed and cut power to match the material you are cutting. But the feature I love best about this jigsaw, is that it fits so well ergonomically in your hand. Great job, Ryobi!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incorrect display model I agree with Nick. The blade is/was difficult to insert. But more importantly was that the store had the Model 480l on display. I tried it with the single finger level type blade system on the display unit and it worked great. But, when I got home opened the box, it was the model 481 with the rotating type blade attachment. Never used it. Took it to the return desk, and the clerk agreed. He couldn't get the blade in. Ryobi tried to improve something that works for other brands. As the saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
