Yes, but it is my understanding that due to the position of the oil reservoir necessary to lubricate the 4-cycle engine, overhead work could result in the oil not being able to lubricate the engine and could result in some serious damage. It will depend on what brand of powerhead you have. its possible that If it's made by Bolens, Columbia,Craftsman, Cub Cadet, HomeLite, MTD, Remington, Ryobi, Troy-Bilt, Yard Macines, Poulan, and perhaps others it will work with the Expand-IT multi-vendor expansion units including the pole saw you seek. Look for the Expand-IT compatible logo on the packaging of the pole saw. As all the ones above are made buy the same parent company: MTD - there is a good chance you will be able to pick one up at Home Depot with this capability. There are other pole saw attachments made for other brand power heads that may also or may only work with your powerhead. You'll want to look at the type of split boom you have and what both it's shaft diameter and shaft connection is (shape [frequently square] & it's internal connection length. This is important because as many products are interchangable, even when made by the same corporation under different brands - they made not be compatible.. A good example of this is only Honda's pole saw attachment works on Honda's powerhead. Only Stihl's works on Stihl's power head. And, remarkably, even though Husqvarna makes the Poulan powerhead - the pole saw option for Husqvarna is proprietary to it's brand (and some Poulan Pro Series) - while the Poulan are able to use the Expand-IT compatible pole saw available from several manufacturers including many but not all of the aformentioned MTD companies. If you have an Expand-IT capable powerhead on your string trimmer - all of the optional Expand-IT attachments/options will work. You may see videos or other information where individuals have modified their powerhead or attachments by adding a home made coupler, physically modifying (read bending or cutting away at the shaft to get the powerhead and attachment to "fit" together) As this would certainly void your warranty and could cause serious bodily harm - this is not something that most rational people would consider or advise. Particularly when one is operating something like a pole saw above their head. =-) Read Less

You can use pole saws from different brands of trimmer/power heads. The 'clink link' fittings seem to be standard to them all and we have had no difficulty interchanging attachments from different brands.

DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. A handheld trimmer MUST be a 2-cycle, not a 4-cycle. See my review. Whether or not this thing can run on ethanol is not important, it runs badly for a short time, then quits.

You can, but just not E85. I think the max allowable was E10 per the instructions. If you do run it with anything over E10 you void the warranty. I would also run a tank of ethanol free occasionally and before putting it up for the season.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly as expected. Being a 4 cycle it works as exactly as expected as long as stored correctly and you add oil occasionally. I was a little concerned by some of the review about using the attachments, since it is a 4 cycle. So far i have been able to use the hedge trimmer, the cultivator, the edger, the pole saw with no problems , as long as i consider the angle of the engine and do not hold it a position that might cause issue for too long. Overall good buy, and in all fairness I have only had it a couple of months , but still no issues so far. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Worked better than expected. Has the power i needed to get rid of saplings on my property. Is well built and runs good. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Only Used it once so far Only used it once so far, but it was amazing, had so much power, and ran great. Can't wait to use it again. October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not recommend very hard to start even when it was new out of the box, the easy wined line is not easy at all...it does not have a low oil cut off and my unit ran out of oil...why would it run out of oil?...where did it go to?...don't buy it...buy a Stihl October 16, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by meltdown bought one back in 2010 had it two years barely used it kept maintenance up always checked oil ran fine one day went to use it wouldnt start disassembled it exaust lobe on cam melted (plastic camshaft) bad design the whole camshaft made out of one material whitch held up good but looks like they added on the exaust lobe with a diffrent material that melted the bad is they dont offer a new cam to replace you have to buy an assyembly costly just buy a new weed trimmer but not ryobi turend me off on their products the thing is i still look at their stuff but should i take a chance and buy September 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor performance Purchased the new unit in April 2016. Worked like a charm. Because of no rain for 60 days in Georgetown Texas I did not get to use again until July. I could not keep it running in July. What does that mean? Oil type lubricant - gas leaked thru the filter area and would not keep running.. Return or Service - ah 10 days past return date sorry! Okay Ryobi units in the past have been wonderful. I can handle service. 8 weeks later my unit was ready. Nothing found wrong with the unit . Ran the unit today - oh well worked for 20 minutes and the same problems started again. There is a major problem possibly in high heat areas? I do not know but I will end up eating this unit. May have to check out Lowes. They have a real problem and will not share the information. Owners manual read the box about it. September 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet and Dependable I don't know what planet most of these folks posting bad reviews are on. I understand if there's broke perhaps but other than that, this trimmer is great. It's a lot quieter than the 2 cycle stuff being sold. I've had mine for 3 years and it starts up after winter storage with no problem. I purchased the limb cutter and it works great too. ....maybe folks are not feeding it normal gas? September 12, 2016
