Despite seeing the reviews split 50/50 between 5 stars & 1 star I decided to make the purchase. Home Depot's return policy is fantastic. I have used the trimmer a few times now and love it. As long as you fill it with the right gas and follow the instructions it starts every time and runs very smooth. It does take a short amount of time from trigger press to full power, but once at full it cuts through everything with ease. With the increased size of the trimmer head & line I have cut my trimming time in half. I also purchased a compatible edger attachment and was blown away by the power and ease. I was able to cut a crisp line down my sidewalk in no time and with little effort. It is still early so I can not speak to longevity, but I am hopeful I will be able to use this for seasons to come. So far it has completely exceeded my expectations.

I should have read the reviews first but, I prefer to give everything a fair shake. I've been wanting a 4 stroke weed eater for a long time - finally got one. Easy to put together, started real easy and ran very well. String seemed to release when needed. After using it for a few minutes - can't say exactly how long but, I looked down and there was motor oil coming from somewhere under the cover near the top of the motor. Being how little was poured in initially from the provided bottle, not sure it would last long losing oil that fast. Taking it back today. Have not decided if I want to risk another one after my own experience and reading a lot of negative reviews. Good luck. The actual value can't be determined until I find out if it will last more than a few uses....

Very poor design...grass gets caught around the top of the trimmer head and stops the head from rotating ..and its not easy to get it out .. i will never purchase ryobi products again and you only have 30days to return it and i am just past the 30 days so i guess i am stuck this with this piece of junk ..200.00 wasted....

I'm on my second one. These things start burning oil and engines seize within 15 minutes of use. On my second one I even went through a "Break in" period to try and increase it's longevity, and checked oil every 10 minutes. It lasted 2 uses instead of 1 this time. I will be returning and replacing with a 2 cycle. It's too bad they are such unreliable pieces of junk, they have nice power and it's convenient to just dump in the same 91 octane non-ethanol gas I use on my mower instead of having to use a mix.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Outdoorz Too Quirky, doesn't stay running
I had one working for a week, then the 3rd time I used it I was going along great and the engine just cut out. After that I could not get it started. I exchanged it for another one and the first use the engine started to stutter and cut out. I couldn't keep it running more then a few minutes.
This is way to fragile of a lawn product, if there is issues with how the oil flows through this thing, it's not worth constant maintenance to try to keep it running right when all other products are just pull and go.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DIY Ryobi Trimmer - worst purchase ever
This is the second time we've purchased this trimmer believing the first engine had a quirky manufacturer defect or ethanol issue. The perk of this trimmer is the attachments, we've purchased most of them-but engine can't handle them. In fact, it can't even handle the trimmer line. With both the first and second engines initially it easily starts-don't be fooled. After using it 20 minutes the engine begins to stutter. During the second use not only did the engine stutter and miss- it smokes-eventually overheating and cutting off. It uses oil like crazy, too. Go back to the drawing board on this trimmer Ryobi. The worst purchase/headache ever. Home Depot rethink selling this Ryobi product.
