Customer Questions & Answers

How long will the battery run on one charge?

For typical trimming and edging, how long with the battery last on one charge?
Asked by: Bobo
I typically get about 20 to 25 minutes on a charge. I am cutting 18" tall grass weeds in my yard and I am using the Ryobi at full speed. The Ryobi will stall if weeds somehow get wrapped around the trimmer head. It may take a half minute to unwrap the weeds so that is included with the time I listed. My previous Ryobi trimmer stopped working once the battery got below 3/4 charge after a year and a half, this is a new Ryobi trimmer that Home Depot was so gracious in giving me with an even exchange policy.

the lever to change from trimmer to edger. The wheel does not allow the lever to come down far enough to change from wleeding to edger or visa versa

this is a Robi cordless
Asked by: Rayjohn
I had exactly the same problem with the 18 volt model, and I see others have too. Design wise the wheel gets in the way of reversing from edger to whacker. I called the service number and the gentleman said he has the same unit and that the wheel cannot be in the way of the lever reverse it back. (the 1st time I took the guard off and was able to release it). He instructed me to lay it in my lap and pull the wheel over, push the lever and rotate the head. It did work but I don't think it was meant to be used that way; getting a lap full of grass! Maybe after I rotate it a few times it will be easier but when he said the wheel must be out of the way that points to a design error. Going to try it again to see if its easier, but it is definitely a problem; Other then that the 18 and I suspect the 40 volt model work great

Is this doable for a 5'2 woman?

I can't handle my husbands 2 cycle gas stihl trimmer, is this lighter?
Asked by: Kygal33
With the large battery (which you want) the weight is about the same but maybe a bit lighter. You should be fine using it. The handle is adjustable and there is a place to connect a neck strap where it will also balance from. I just use the old neck-strap from my old gas-trimmer, but I'm sure you can buy a generic one cheap. When used as an Edger, you don't really need it because it is rolling on the ground.

Where do you get the Connexion attachments

As far as I can tell, Home Depot doesn't sell them. So where do you find them?
Asked by: MS
If you can't find any of the CONNEXION attachments at your local Home Depot, check www.homedepot.com.

The product in general operates acceptably. The replacement line replacement packages are ridiculously overpriced. Self winding from bulk line is a much more economical way to replace your line. Also, the self feed mechanism does not self feed very often as I've experienced. As of 2017, the battery charger has died. The warranty coverage so prominently displayed by Home Depot and Ryobi is worthless and extremely difficult to get a productive response from Ryobi. The Ryobi rep would not honor the 3 year warranty based off of the serial number, and wouldn't consider the original purchase receipt. Also, the warranty is misleading, the 5 years DOES NOT COVER the battery or charger! I won't be buying any more of Home Depot's Ryobi products.

I purchased two cordless Ryobi products and the batteries stopped charging within 4 months of purchase. A little research online showed that this is a common problem with Ryobi tools. Ryobi states that there is a 3 year warranty but when I contacted the warranty department they stated that they would not replace the batteries. Terrible product and warranty

Ryobi 40v Trimmer/Edger - With 2.6Ah Battery and Charger This Trimmer/Edger was my introduction to Ryobi 40v yard tools, back in Summer 2012. After a few uses, I was a true believer. I like that one tools easily converts between Trimmer and Edger. It has a variable speed trigger, but I only squeeze it to full-speed about 40% of the time. After 5 years, this tool and its charger still work fine. This original Battery still holds a good charge, with long life and high power to the end. The trimmer works fine, and just as good as my old heavy gas one on basic grasses (even St. Augustine and it's runners). No more mixing oil and gas. I like that it self-feeds without bumping on the ground (it does it when it slows-down to very low RPMs). You can buy pre-wound line cartridges, or wind your own. No more hauling-out the old large 3HP gas solid-blade edger. I ended up giving-away my old Edger to my brother so no more storage space or gas-engine maintenance and repairs to worry around. Cuts a nice clean groove and is easy to control. I think Nylon-line life is good (even when Edging). A tip for longer line-life is to try to avoid heavy contact with concrete (light contact can't be avoided and it not a problem). Trimming and Edging is much less of a hassle now-days (you just pickup tool, snap in battery, and go to work). I like that they all use the same batteries, so you don't have to buy a battery each time (saving money). However, if you want more batteries ... I think it's a little cheaper to buy the version of your next tool that has one included. So far, (in 2017) I currently have 2 batteries that I rotate between 3 different Ryobi 40v yard-tools.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works good so far The string doesn't seem overly tough it breaks easy on stone or fence. However cuts well, struggles a little in the thick stuff. But for general yard use it works great. It's a bit heavier than I expected as it looks light, though it is lighter than my gas one. No more fuel to mix, doing my whole yard 75x110 lot so not small took less than half a charge, so it lasts a while. Just be cautious when lifting fully off throttle as it auto feeds and you will cut the excess string off wasting it. So stay on the throttle just a little bit between cuts to not waste thread. For the average house user I think it's a great trimmer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Versatile ! I've had cordless trimmers before, but, Ryobi has taken the next step and really added some punch to their product. I wanted a trimmer that was lightweight, so my wife could also use it, had plenty of power, to do the yard with one charge easily, and easy to add more cord when needed, you don't have to tap the end on the ground as when you want more cord, let go of the throttle and it automatically comes out in segments. I've really enjoyed using a product that does what it says it will do. We also bought the 40V brush-less lawn mower which has the same batteries, and they are interchangeable which helps get the job done. Thanks Ryobi [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
