How long will the battery run on one charge?

For typical trimming and edging, how long with the battery last on one charge?
Asked by: Bobo
My yard is just under half an acre of uneven ground. Lots of small trees in odd places and a tall white fence that separates the front yard from the back. To make things even tougher my yard is backed up to thick woods. So I go full power through everything. I must really give some major credit to Ryobi. I have had this particular 40 volt model for nearly 4 years now and it still whacks through anything but small trees its so powerful. Same battery as well. I get at best 25-30 minutes out of a full charge simply because I am having to go full power through some extremely tall thick brush. Bonus-being able to turn the head 90 degrees and edge my driveway. The 40 volt power makes edging my 60 foot driveway a breeze. This Ryobi has done nothing but embarrass gas powered whackers and trimmers for the near 4 years I have had it. It has never had a single malfunction. Only thing I do not like is when the battery depletes I gotta wait a couple hours for it to recharge which wastes valuable time. So I just took delivery of the new separate 40 volt charger and new 5 amp hour 40 volt battery pack today. Already charged the big 5 pound high capacity new 40 volt pack up and installed it on the trimmer. With this new more than double the capacity 40 volt pack the trimmer came with I should be able to get an hour and a half of full power use. SIDE NOTE-the charger that comes with the trimmer is designed to only work with the specific battery pack that comes with the trimmer. Try putting any of the other Ryobi 40 volt packs in the basic charger it will read faulty. You need the new stand alone charger to charge any of the other 40 volt packs. All that being said this specific Ryobi whacker and trimmer is one of the best powered yard tools I have ever bought let alone used. It truly equals gas powered trimmers. With all the rain weve had here lately weeds and overgrowth are rampant in my yard. Hopefully things will have dried up enough tomorrow so I can totally obliterate the now tall weeds and overgrowth without having to stop and recharge. 10/10

the lever to change from trimmer to edger. The wheel does not allow the lever to come down far enough to change from wleeding to edger or visa versa

this is a Robi cordless
Asked by: Rayjohn
I have exactly the same problem. Goes into edger position easily, but the wheel prevents easily returning to the trimmer position. I have not found a good solution other than to over-power the darn thing. I've had it quite a while now and pretty much made peace with the tiny spools. All in all, they could have hit this out of the park. All other features are good.

Where do you get the Connexion attachments

As far as I can tell, Home Depot doesn't sell them. So where do you find them?
Asked by: MS
If you can't find any of the CONNEXION attachments at your local Home Depot, check www.homedepot.com.

40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer/Edger is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 942.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ryobi warrany fail Was nice to use, until the engine burned up. I sent it in for a warranty repair, and two months later it came back... with the trimmer head installed upside down. In the meantime, my grass has grown to be two feet high. With my yard looking like a jungle, I was forced to buy a replacement, so I went to Lowe's and got a Kobalt 40V with a 5 year no-hassle guarantee. No more Ryobi for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Line Breaks if Motor is Run at Full Power At first I thought this trimmer was garbage because the line broke off inside the spool every 30 seconds of use, resulting in me having to disassemble the spool and manually let out more line. It came with twisted-type line and I changed it over to the standard round-type line. It still broke at the same rate. But that was when I ran it at full power. When I throttled the speed back a little it ran perfectly and the line didn't break off. Also, I have edged my large yard twice now and have yet to have to recharge the battery. I also like the wheel on the edger to help make straight, even cuts. In summary, don't use it at full throttle and it will work great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No more cord I am on my second 40 volt. The first burned out after a couple of years. This time I registered for warranty. That said, this is a very good product. I can do an entire medium sized yard on one battery and most of the time the auto feed works. After use I clean out the vent holes so the device breaths the next use. I hope that prevents this one from ignition. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unbelievable poor quality. I switched from Ryobi gas weed-trimmer to a battery operated one 18 month ago. Since then I have replaced the unit once, engine start smoking, and now I am dealing with a dead battery that will cost $100+ to replace. And if you ever decided to buy this product please make sure you SAVE the receipt, YOU WILL NEED IT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good, but a couple of issues Pros: -good power, edging wheel is a great feature, good run time, reasonable charge time -included string is good. The feeder works great (contrary to some of the other reviews on here). -overall, this trimmer is a pleasure to use. Cons: Some questionable quality issues -You have to assemble the trimmer's guard to the motor with three screws. Two of the included screws were phillips, and one was torx. Well... ok, but that was anoying. -The string cutting blade is held on by one tiny pathetic little screw in plastic. As soon as I started the trimmer, the string ripped the blade off and sent it flying across the garage. I replaced the screw with a small bolt running through the guard, and all is well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like it more with every use Wife got this for me for Christmas 2014 so I have one whole season of use and the start of this spring so far. Got it based on recommendation of my brother who has had a few cordless Ryobi products. Battery life is good and charging is pretty quick. Plenty of power for trimming my yard. At first I wondered why I kept going through trim line so quickly... apparently every click of trigger advances line. Now I just keep trigger pressed so that has fixed that issue. Left arm used to get sore from using too, but not so bad anymore. Must be getting stronger in my old age. Overall, I like the trimmer and am glad I got it. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Motor burns out I like the power and long life of the battery on this weed eater, along with the balance and the amount of cord it will hold. However all these good things are of no use when the motor burns out every year. The first burnout was on the 3rd or 4th use. Home Depot kindly repaired it at no charge. This time the motor lasted 1 complete season and is failing at the beginning of the this season. It doesn't get heavy use. We use an edger for the walkway and driveway. We just use it around a dozen trees lining our driveway and touch-ups here and there. One burned out motor could have been a fluke, but 2 burned out motors in 3 seasons makes me want to warn anyone considering this model.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ryobi Sting Trimmer Marginal but needed for Pole Edger extension tool I purchased the string trimmer in order to purchase and use the Hedge Pole Trimmer attachment. I used the string trimmer on a couple of occasions and found that it could accomplish trimming tasks but not as powerful and easy to use as a gas model trimmer I normally use. The "edger" feature of the trimmer worked well and is probably the feature of the unit I will use most. The pro's of the string trimmer is that it is light weight, easy to adjust to edger, easily provides the base units for alternative tool attachments, and the 40v lithium battery lasts a long time. The con's are that the trimmer is not heavy duty enough for large jobs, the string spool is too small - requiring frequent and timely changes, and that you have to buy this unit in order to get the attachment tools. Ryobi should sell just the base unit without the string trimmer head.
