Customer Questions & Answers

How long will the battery run on one charge?

For typical trimming and edging, how long with the battery last on one charge?
Asked by: Bobo
I typically get about 20 to 25 minutes on a charge. I am cutting 18" tall grass weeds in my yard and I am using the Ryobi at full speed. The Ryobi will stall if weeds somehow get wrapped around the trimmer head. It may take a half minute to unwrap the weeds so that is included with the time I listed. My previous Ryobi trimmer stopped working once the battery got below 3/4 charge after a year and a half, this is a new Ryobi trimmer that Home Depot was so gracious in giving me with an even exchange policy.

the lever to change from trimmer to edger. The wheel does not allow the lever to come down far enough to change from wleeding to edger or visa versa

this is a Robi cordless
Asked by: Rayjohn
I have exactly the same problem. Goes into edger position easily, but the wheel prevents easily returning to the trimmer position. I have not found a good solution other than to over-power the darn thing. I've had it quite a while now and pretty much made peace with the tiny spools. All in all, they could have hit this out of the park. All other features are good.

Where do you get the Connexion attachments

As far as I can tell, Home Depot doesn't sell them. So where do you find them?
Asked by: MS
If you can't find any of the CONNEXION attachments at your local Home Depot, check www.homedepot.com.

Each time you release, then pull the trigger to operate the trimmer, the string advances. Therefore, you have to keep the trimmer running as you walk or move about. Or the string continues to extend out. The string gets longer and longer an cuts itself off, wasting string. Needs to be a better way to advance the string. I bought a 40volt blower at the same time so I would have a second tool with the same battery. I may return both tools because of the crazy string advance of the trimmer.

I purchased two cordless Ryobi products and the batteries stopped charging within 4 months of purchase. A little research online showed that this is a common problem with Ryobi tools. Ryobi states that there is a 3 year warranty but when I contacted the warranty department they stated that they would not replace the batteries. Terrible product and warranty

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought it in Aug., 2014. Not happy Bought it Aug. 2014. Was OK but a lack of power. 13 mo. later the string quit coming out automatically, now have to turn it upside down and let out string manually. A hassle to use. String is small so it does not last long. Used on a city lot for trimming only and not on every mowing. Battery only last 40 min. after it was used one season. Not for my to like. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like it more with every use Wife got this for me for Christmas 2014 so I have one whole season of use and the start of this spring so far. Got it based on recommendation of my brother who has had a few cordless Ryobi products. Battery life is good and charging is pretty quick. Plenty of power for trimming my yard. At first I wondered why I kept going through trim line so quickly... apparently every click of trigger advances line. Now I just keep trigger pressed so that has fixed that issue. Left arm used to get sore from using too, but not so bad anymore. Must be getting stronger in my old age. Overall, I like the trimmer and am glad I got it. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this! Weed eater worked great the one time I got to use it. After that the battery wouldn't charge. Had to buy a new one at $100, now IT won't charge because the charger itself is not working. Upon further research, this is a common problem with these units. What a waste of hundreds of dollars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ryobi Sting Trimmer Marginal but needed for Pole Edger extension tool I purchased the string trimmer in order to purchase and use the Hedge Pole Trimmer attachment. I used the string trimmer on a couple of occasions and found that it could accomplish trimming tasks but not as powerful and easy to use as a gas model trimmer I normally use. The "edger" feature of the trimmer worked well and is probably the feature of the unit I will use most. The pro's of the string trimmer is that it is light weight, easy to adjust to edger, easily provides the base units for alternative tool attachments, and the 40v lithium battery lasts a long time. The con's are that the trimmer is not heavy duty enough for large jobs, the string spool is too small - requiring frequent and timely changes, and that you have to buy this unit in order to get the attachment tools. Ryobi should sell just the base unit without the string trimmer head.
