Was nice to use, until the engine burned up. I sent it in for a warranty repair, and two months later it came back... with the trimmer head installed upside down. In the meantime, my grass has grown to be two feet high.
With my yard looking like a jungle, I was forced to buy a replacement, so I went to Lowe's and got a Kobalt 40V with a 5 year no-hassle guarantee. No more Ryobi for me.

The 40-volt battery provides more than an hour's worth of weed-eating time, which is more than sufficient to complete my yard-work chores. It would have been helpful if the product had come with an around-the-shoulder strap, as the product is heavy enough to warrant a strap. So far, my only issue has been with the original string being wound so tightly around the spool that it would not feed. I had to unwind it from the spool and then rewind it onto the spool.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GrandBob Ryobi Sting Trimmer Marginal but needed for Pole Edger extension tool
I purchased the string trimmer in order to purchase and use the Hedge Pole Trimmer attachment. I used the string trimmer on a couple of occasions and found that it could accomplish trimming tasks but not as powerful and easy to use as a gas model trimmer I normally use. The "edger" feature of the trimmer worked well and is probably the feature of the unit I will use most. The pro's of the string trimmer is that it is light weight, easy to adjust to edger, easily provides the base units for alternative tool attachments, and the 40v lithium battery lasts a long time. The con's are that the trimmer is not heavy duty enough for large jobs, the string spool is too small - requiring frequent and timely changes, and that you have to buy this unit in order to get the attachment tools. Ryobi should sell just the base unit without the string trimmer head.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bobrun Not up to Ryobi standards
At first I was very impressed with this unit. Great power and battery run time. After 3 months the plastic shield cracked. I was able to make it somewhat useful with epoxy. Several months later it became very difficult to switch between trimming and edging. I contacted Ryobi and was told to take it to a service center. Ever been satisfied with a 'service center'? Decided to continue with arm wrestling the head. Then last week the variable speed stopped working. Only works at full speed. I've been a Ryobi tool fan for many years. No more.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by powerstroke97 long lasting, powerful battery
I have a lot of sidewalk and driveway to edge, and a lot of flower beds to weed whack. I am still able to do it all on one battery charge. 40 watt leaf blower coming next.
