This is the best trimmer I have ever used. It works well as an edger. It is light weight. The thing I like most is the easy start. The battery pack is a bit tricky to get off but once you get the hang of it it is fine. I would recommend this over a gas trimmer. I have .25 acres and the charge lasts into the next time I need to trim. It does have a lot of plastic on it which concerns me but the warranty is good. I have the .080 string trimmer and is a 40 volt. Great product.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by tools burn out trimmer
Brought this uint back in june 2012 didnt really use it till 2013 and the motor burn out in mid july still on its original spool of string! Took it to a Home Depot recommended repair shop, that doesnt handle Ryobi gardening tools and they sent me to another shop, which is pretty far. The first thing they did was charge me $25.00 for diagnostics told them it was a burn motor but still had to pay it. The unit was sitting at their shop unit Nov before I got it back, guess I could get it ready for snow now, during this time I've been calling them and they kept telling me that its waiting for parts. This is my 2nd Ryobi trimmer first one had the same problem but it was a lower voltage unit, figure a 40V would be much better, Guess not! I would definitely not recomend this to anyone or any of the Ryobi warranties!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by vpelss A great product
I have too many toys that have gas engines. That is why I went electric.
I have 7 acres and that means a lot of edges. My first task was to clear our a 150 foot ditch out front.
I have had this trimmer for a month now and I have used it on, what I consider, heavy weeds and grass.
The battery does last 30 - 90 minutes depending on usage. It charges within 1.5 - 2 hours.
The string is only 9 ft long so it can run out fast. You may want a backup spool even if you rewind your own.
I now own two Ryobi products (the other a pressure washer) and I am very happy with the quality of engineering in these two products.
I am impressed with the 3 year warranty and you can buy an extra year through Home Depot for $15.
The plastic feels a little flimsy, but it has held up so far.
The biggest issue is battery replacement costs. $129. But the batteries should last if you take care of them.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by SSLFamilyDad Best string trimmer I have owned
I have owned quite a few other string trimmers in the past and this is by far the best one I have ever owned. The Ryobi 40 volt electric string trimmer is powerful, easy to use, lightweight, and has enough juice to trim our 3/4 acre lot. I have been able to use this product for almost two full seasons now and have been very impressed.
I also have the 40 volt electric chain saw that works with the same battery system and I have also reviewed that as well. I am normally not a huge fan of Ryobi as a brand but I have purchased a few other Ryobi products and have been impressed with the design and function. Only time will tell how well they hold up but after a couple of years of using these 2 Ryobi products I am starting to warm up to the brand.
I prefer to purchase electric and batter powered devices when I can as I prefer to own devices that I can produce my own energy for. With gas prices constantly on the rise it is a nice feeling to not have to worry about purchasing gas all the time for trimmers, chain saws, and other yard tools.
I do not receive any incentive to review these products, I do this to give others information so that they can make informed decisions.
