The guy on the PHONE said the new charger would not work with the old battery, but the guy in email said that ALL Ryobi chargers are compatible with ALL Ryobi batteries. Unfortunately the new charger does not charge the battery - apparently the battery is dead. (I was told that "just happens." So I have to get a new battery. It is available online only at Home Depot for $129 with FREE shipping to your home. At the parts distribution place that Ryobi gave me, it costs $137.16 and $17.45 for shipping. GOOD LUCK! Read Less

After one year?

Well, I can't find my receipt, so I don't know how old this is - although it is more than 1 year. However, I too have the defective charger and now battery, and called Ryobi service. Basically I was told I was welcome to buy a new one since it was past the one year.

When a company like this has a known defect in one of the products, and still refuses to make it right on a technicality. . That is something I very much dislike - and will prevent me from ever spending any more $ with this company, and I will tell everyone I know!

1 year on a seasonal item, and knowing the part was defective is very bad business.

Does anybody know if there is something "other" than the 4050 service department to call? Is there some code to tell the person? I called twice and was met with eye rolling sounds each time.

this is a relatively expensive item (fixed income) & I would like some sense of its life expectancy or assurance that if it is defective, I have recourse?

Answer:
Hey Elan, This replacement battery comes with a 90 day manufacturers warranty so if you already have the 48v mower then this would be a viable option. If you are looking at getting a new mower I would recommend our new 40v line of mowers. All of these come with a 5 year warranty on the tool and 3 on the batteries. Thanks for the question!

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 2.8 out of 5 by 146 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This battery should be upgraded Although the battery is easy to use. It does not last very long because I have to buy a 3rd one one now. It would be good if Ryobi can make a similar battery that runs on Lithium. May 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad product! and warranty is worthless We bought the Ryobi 48V mower thinking it would be as great a product as all of our other Ryobi tools (saw, weed eater, drill, etc). In only 10 months the battery wouldn't hold a charge. Ryobi sent us a new one under the warranty. Even though the battery began dying in less than a year, we made it last a year and 4 months. That was a mistake, as Ryobi only warranties the battery for 1 year. So when we tried to get a new one, they told us it wasn't covered. They even know these are bad, as evident in the fact that they no longer sell this model lawn mower. They have a new model. We are now stuck with a mower we can't use. Oh, we can buy a new battery for $129 through Home Depot (and have it die in a year)...no thanks! We will be buying a different brand lawn mower. May 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Just saying I'd have no problem ordering from HD again. It was nice getting item so soon. And yes, the battery is needed and ........hey, it's just a battery. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by best battery ever the battery lasts a long time extremely happy with it...love the power in the mower April 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by cuts and runs great mower runs good...the battery is junk...on my second one but now charger is gone I think ??? December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement lawn mower battery works great The battery performed as expected. No problems with the ordering and delivery despite the weight. March 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by So much for that. Haven't purchased the replacement battery yet, but the original battery pack from March 2012 swelled up and leaked today. Ryobi said to take it to Home Depot, and Home Depot said send it to Ryobi (because they don't do anything after 90 days). Not exactly stellar customer service. Ryobi says I have the updated charger, so all they could say is that my failure is "unusual". Doesn't keep me from having to spend $130 on a battery of dubious quality, though. Not very happy, and I'll remember this episode when considering future tool purchases. Oh, and since I'm not getting warranty support, I decided to see what's inside. See pic for one of the two batteries in the pack. Note how the top is bulged upward. August 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Limited Guarantee Excellent mower, but last battery only lasted 7 months. Phoenix can be an unfriendly environment for batteries, but I expect longer production from a battery that is this expensive. The battery charge indicator shows three of the four packs charged, but that's not enough to run the mower. November 3, 2015
