Why is a battery failling after only 18 months. and then charge half the price for new mower for a battery with a useless warranty.

After one year?

Well, I can't find my receipt, so I don't know how old this is - although it is more than 1 year. However, I too have the defective charger and now battery, and called Ryobi service. Basically I was told I was welcome to buy a new one since it was past the one year. When a company like this has a known defect in one of the products, and still refuses to make it right on a technicality. . That is something I very much dislike - and will prevent me from ever spending any more $ with this company, and I will tell everyone I know! 1 year on a seasonal item, and knowing the part was defective is very bad business. Does anybody know if there is something "other" than the 4050 service department to call? Is there some code to tell the person? I called twice and was met with eye rolling sounds each time.

Same boat here. We had one battery go bad, but it was either under warranty or a known issue, so the company replaced it. We were pleased with the customer service at the time. The very next mowing season, we went to charge the battery and got nothing. Not sure if it's the charger or the battery, but we're looking at new mowers in other brands. So much for environmentally-friendly. Two batteries to recycle (if that's possible) and a hunk of junk for the landfill.

where do i find a replacement charger for this battery?

I called Ryobi and was told I had to buy the charger (even though the original one was defective). I then opened a support ticket on the ryobi site, and was sent a FREE replacement charger. The guy on the PHONE said the new charger would not work with the old battery, but the guy in email said that ALL Ryobi chargers are compatible with ALL Ryobi batteries. Unfortunately the new charger does not charge the battery - apparently the battery is dead. (I was told that "just happens." So I have to get a new battery. It is available online only at Home Depot for $129 with FREE shipping to your home. At the parts distribution place that Ryobi gave me, it costs $137.16 and $17.45 for shipping. GOOD LUCK!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Waste your money buy gasoline power for reliability and durability. Battery pack doesn't last. Good for one year and throw it away. I thought I was being environmentally responsible buy this RIOBI mower certainly not at $130 a pop for a new battery. I took the entire mower to the dump where it belongs and went to Canadian Tire and bought a gas mower for about the same price of the battery replacement. I have no patience for expensive things that don't work and this mower cost me three times what a new gas mower would have when I bought it and it would be still running. I wont be spending money on any more RIOBI products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be vewy cawful I don't know which battery they want me to review so I'll group them. The first one received in this round failed in the first month. I returned it rather than warranty it so I could restart the clock. These batteries cost about ten times what I've spent on gas per year but their pollution contribution happens somewhere else. Having to protect the battery from ambient temperature all summer is a pain ( keep below 80 degrees). These batteries haven't given good service in the past, I'm hoping for better now that I know to keep them in the house. I'll let the lawn die off this summer so I don't have to expose the mower to high temperatures. I don't think HD should have sold these mowers on the Southwest if they can't stand the heat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A functional unit This is the second battery to fail in 5 years. The first was replaced free of charge by Ryobi, so I can't complain. This one has lasted three seasons, probably not unreasonable. As a senior citizen, I find it pretty heavy (thank the good Lord for grandsons!). And don't leave the charger out in the weather: it is not moisture-proof!

I thought I had a $400 paper weight, but Ryobi really cares they want the mower and charger back to find why I am having troubles with the mower they are paying for the shipping and giving me a new mower. You do not find many companies today that stand behind what they sell

It's a battery; this is my third battery since purchasing my mower, what I have learned is during the high temp months I must disconnect and bring the battery into my home. Since this mower has been discontinued, I realize the option of ordering another battery may no longer be available to me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cheaper than replacing the mower I was torn about replacing the battery of this mower one more time. The mower works very well, but the need to replace the battery every year or so is very disappointing. I made the decision that it was easier to replace the battery and the blade rather than purchase a mower with more reasonable maintenance costs. The battery was shipped very quickly and seems to works "fine". Next summer when I am faced with replacing the battery again I may make a different decision. It seems that Home Depot may want to offer a less expensive option for those customers who have made the unfortunate investment in their rechargeable mower. Charging customers who have purchased their mower over $100 for a battery that we know will not last much more than a season does not show much concern over customer satisfaction.
