Purchased for a shelf-building project where I would be driving around 200 #9 2-1/2" construction screws through 2x4's. I knew my aging battery powered driver would require several charging rounds, and this was less expensive than a new battery powered rig. I also used it successfully for much lighter work (3/8" ply to 2x4's, using 1-1/4" roundheads). Pros: Excellent torque - drove screws without pilot holes (though the #9's tended to split when drilling near end of 2x4" so I drilled small pilot holes. Just for grins I tried pulling the head as far as could into two 2x4's; the drill kept right on going, pulling the head about 3/8" inches deep before my scrap 2x4s split.) Good Clutch control - the dial control is effective across the whole range, preventing over-driving for both light and heavy jobs. I did accidentally pop the heads off a couple old cheap drywall screws before I dialed it down. Good speed control - The VSR control / trigger gives real variability, and access to low speeds. Less Weight - weighs less than my battery rig. Great for my older arms. Comfortable grip - Easy to hold and guide straight. Balance is excellent. Easy to both start and drill straight. No overheating - after a run of over 100 screws one right after another, it was warm, but not hot. I was careful NOT to run slow under high load, which can burn out motors fast. Cons: You are dragging a cord. The chuck can be a little hard to grip and open if your hands are cold or slick. Overall: I am a semi-retired home-handyman who loves projects and good tools, and I haven't got much patience for cheaply built tools. I'm extremely glad I bought this driver. It feels and sounds really well built. I'm using it for drilling as well as driving, and its compact size coupled with great performance makes it a bargain. I'm happy to be back with a corded driver. I haven't picked up my cordless drill since buying this.

Had to replace a 3/8 corded drill (after 20 years) to supplement my cordless; was a great price and I really like the overall weight of this drill and the distribution of the weight due to the handle placement (kind of in the middle of the drill). Some of the others I tested had the handle farther back, which throws off the balance (and they were heavier; I could not find a lighter 3/8 in variable corded drill).

More power and no battery charger to mess with and now they make this one with a clutch makes it even better. The only thing I don't get is why it comes with a carrying case because I haven't put it away since I purchased it.

I used this with a wire brush to remove heavy rust from a very old boat trailer. The drill worked for 20 minute spurts for at least 2 hours straight to remove the rust and had no problems. I also used it for a heavy job to drive 3" wood screws and lag bolts. It has good torque and the variable speed trigger is easy to work with. The clutch works well. A feature that would make this a "game changer" would be to have an electric brake (similar to cordless drills). The balance is great and the grip is comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for heavy duty drilling To be fair, this drill is fine for the price for a homeowner who might drill an occasional hole in a piece of wood. I bought it with the unrealistic hope that I could drill holes for dryer vents using a 4" holesaw. The drill was overheating and smoking and would not finish the hole. But I should have expected this. I need a bigger, more heavy duty drill so it was not the drill's fault.
