Rated 2 out of 5 by Awkward for normal use I can't help but to comment on this drill. Firstly, I'm 50yrs old and have used a few dozen drills in my time. This particular drill is the most awkward drill I have ever come up against. Yes, the price is right but the prospective buyer should maybe go down to home depot and check out the feel of it in your hands and try to envision the chores you'd like to use this for. Then try the feel of another comparably priced drill. Here's my assessment: All the weight of this drill is foreward of the drill handle which makes it want to fall forward, you might presume you can just hold the handle firmly to steady it however the drill button is going to restrict one or two fingers from holding this drill up when drilling laterally. I debated returning this and probably would have if I could drive. This requires the use of a chuck to tighten the bits but seems to hold the bits well. As for the adjustable speeds....well, it could be a tad more smoother but again, for the price I guess we can't complain compared to the 2 or 3 other makers our country has a choice of nowadays. Rated 2 out of 5 by Be careful I have other Ryobi tools and I love them. When I went to Home Depot, this hammer drill was the one I wanted. It had a better rating than Bosch, for heaven sakes! It was the last in stock and a display model so they gave it to me for only $35. Good deal, right? Not really. I had no trouble in the hammer mode, and I didn't overdo it in going cleanly through concrete or stucco. But when I used it in drill mode with a spade bit in wood, and hit an obstruction. something inside stripped. I read in other reviews that the gears were not durable, and they aren't. Today I took the drill back to HD and bought a Makita for $79. For really big jobs, I still love my Ryobi gasoline powered demolition hammer, but for small tasks I think the Makita will do well. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great drill Bought this to drill through 10" block wall. Got a big 1/2" x 12" bit and this drill cut through like butter. Have also done smaller holes for drapes etc - works great. Wish i would have bought a hammer drill years ago instead of chewing up bits with a regular drill (this one has regular drill mode also). Make sure to get hammer drill bits which are different than regular masonry bits. I Highly recommend this drill. September 5, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by 5/8 drill with 1/2 chuck??? 5/8 drill with 1/2 chuck??? I'm confused any annoyed, with a useless, expensive 5/8 bit. November 13, 2014
