Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 I picked up this sander as I had to sand the bottom side of an 18 foot boat, I found it worked very well and I was running 60 grit sandpaper with it and it ran super for 8 hours of sanding that day and it has been working great every day I have used it, I am very impressed with this sander and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sander, the dust collection also works quite well as I had to empty the bag quite a bit but like almost any sander there was still a good stream of dust leaving the sanding area, I am sure hooking up a vacuum would make a big difference but I was outdoors so did not care

This is actually a decent sander and the dust bag does a great job of performing it's task. I purchased it as the Makita it replaces doesn't have a dust bag and I was looking for a tool that wasn't blowing dust into my face when it was in use. I have smaller hands & while the grip is pretty ergonomic, it was a stretch for my hands. I found the Makita fit my hand better and the Makita was also much lighter. It's still a good sander and has performed flawlessly anytime I grab it for a task

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pachuco What a great sander for the price
Now, keep in mind that this is the first Random Orbit Sander that I own or even try. I have to say, I am extremely impressed with this sander, I use it all the time now and can't imagine living without it anymore. The dust collection is pretty effective which was a surprise to me. Ryobi isn't typically the first manufacturer I look at when selecting tools, I sure am glad I did with this one though.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Panferno Handy little sander
Very impressed with this sander, especially for the price. The dust extraction system works very well and I like the weight and feel of the sander during use. It does seem like it goes through sanding discs quickly (they stop sticking to the sander long before the grit wears out) - but these discs are inexpensive to replace and so I'm not to worried about it.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jamesatrj You get what you pay for
Tool is low cost and works reasonably well. For basic sanding, this is a great product. It is clean and does a good job. If you have light sanding work to do, this will do just fine. You need to be mindful of how much pressure you are applying to the item you are sanding.
Unfortunately, I had the same problem several other reviewers identified. The screw that holds the backing pad into the armature assembly is either low quality or insufficient designe to handle the torque generated if you put too much downward pressure on the sander. The armature continues to spin and the screw ends up stripped and the backing pad disconnects from the armature.
If you are trying to remove a couple layers of paint, this isn't the tool for that job. I suggest you spend more money and get something more robust. Either that or get yourself an ample supply of M4 x 10mm screws to replace the ones you are likely to burn through if you put too much pressure on the sander.
I've attached the picture of the schematic. The screw is item 21 and the armature is item 14. The screw is under a buck. the armature is $21. I haven't figured out if the armature is also stripped, or only the screw.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by humbledinghy Very good sander if you use it correctly
I have had two of these sanders now and believe I got more than my moneys worth out of each of them. Used correctly (don't push down excessively, don't run it on an edge ..ie keep it flat on the work, change the paper when worn so as not to kill the sander to save 40c on a disk), and blow it out or vacuum it out every hour or so and it will exceed the price you paid for it in terms of value. I have sanded several sailboat bottoms and topsides, numerous large woodworking projects and last fall I sanded the old stain off of all the cedar shake shingles on my entire house (2400 sq ft) and garage only now is the sander starting to sound like it has bearing problems. The first sander I left out in the rain and it was never right after that but it had worked countless hours prior to my carelessness. I just cant image what Festool or Fein might offer to make them worth 20 times the price.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by BrianL STOPPED WORKING AFTER 1 YEAR
I bought this sander from HD in May of 2013. I used it a few times for different projects throughout the year. It was always put away clean and carefully. While it was working I was very happy with it. The tool would bounce around some and some of the sanding pads would hang over the available velcro, but not a big deal. It worked nicely for a wine rack I built as well. It does not leave distinctive swirls. However, as of October 2014 the sander is dead. I took it off the shelf and it simply does not turn on at all. Nothing, not even a whimper. I'm upset that it lasted but a little over a year.

So, I get a call one day from a guy at Ryobi tools. He had read my post on this site about the poor quality sander I bought, and wanted to make good on Ryobi tools, so he sent me another. I've been on some other projects but will get back to kitchen remodel soon and see if the sander spits out parts of the armature. But i will say good on Ryobi for reading comments and trying to do something about a problem, Thanks
