Does this have some kind of AC unit or is it simply a fan blowing the cold air from the ice chest?
Asked by: Nick
Thank you for asking, Nick. The cooler has a 50 quart capacity and may be filled to the top with ice for best performance. This cooler is designed to work as a usual cooler but with a built in fan to cool the air. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

Will you make a bigger cooler with built in fan?

Asked by: rick
You can add bigger tires and 30 pnds is not something i can't handle especially with built in tires. It would be nice to have a 100 quart cooler with two vents.

Can it also be run off 12v via an adaptor?

Asked by: MD
Not currently. It was really built with the ONE+ battery set up in mind. I personally have 2 batteries and the 30 min rapid charge, charger.

50 qt. Air Conditioned Cooler is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes me a better Investigator! I am a Private Investigator and a big part of my job is surveillance. Setting in a van in high heat makes it nearly impossible to stay still in the back of this metal heat trap. This portable cooler is exactly what this industry has needed for many many years. Having a unit that not only keeps my beverages cold but most importantly keep the interior of the van very very cool. Using my lithium batteries even makes it more of a stellar product. Using my 12 V charger makes it even more of a homerun especially when conducting surveillance for 10 to 12 hours at a time. This cooler actually has me looking forward to my next surveillance. Bring on the heat!

I work in Texas and literally got my hands on this thing 1 week in to a air conditioning outage in my building. Temps in my office were running 90+ degrees and fans weren't cutting it. My office is about 100 sq. ft. so this thing has been perfect. My office was at least 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the building and I only filled it about half full of ice. Add a USB outlet on it and it's perfect.

The amount of ice the cooler goes through does not make it a wise investment. I received my cooler on Thursday 8/17/17. On Friday 8/18/17 I loaded it with approximately 60 assorted room temperature can beverages, an assortment of sandwich meat and cheese at 38 degrees. I topped the cooler off with 1.5 bags of ice (15 lbs). Put the cooler in the back of my truck in Charlotte,NC with the air temp at 92 degrees and drove 4 hours to Fontana Lake. The fan was not running during the drive. When I arrived at the lake, I inspected the cooler, half the ice had melted. I drank 6 very cold adult beverages and topped the cooler off with another 10 lbs of ice. On the lake the cooler was placed inside of my houseboat which was 84 degrees. I ran the fan over night occasionally monitoring the inside and outside temperatures. The temp drop inside after just one hour of running was 2 degrees. The cooler was able to maintain a temperature difference of 5.5 degrees over night inside a 120 square foot houseboat. Outside temp was 78, inside was 72.5. The fully charged 18 volt 4Ah battery lasted almost 9 hours and all the ice had fully melted by morning. On Saturday morning 8/19/17, I drained the cooler and topped it off with 20 lbs of ice. The 20 lbs of ice was fully melted after 22 hours of no fan running and typical opening and closing of the lid in 86 degree outside air. Other things that I noticed with the cooler; the dry storage compartment is large enough to hold a full loaf of bread plus other things, the large wheels makes it easy to roll over rocks and boat dock decking. The placement of the air vent takes some getting used to, I grabbed the vent more than once thinking it was the handle to open the lid. I can see how the vent could be easily broken. Bottom line, Okay cooler but for the price I could have purchased a portable AC unit and cheaper cooler for less money and would have done a better job at cooling both food and air. I'm currently debating making my first return of one of many Ryobi tools that I have purchased.

Wish it had come with the Lithium+ battery since it will draw more power. The charger was a slight disappointment, this is the first time I have received this type from Ryobi. While compact, I am a little worried on how long it will take to recover. The cooler overall is a nice design and appears to be sturdy. In my opinion it is a much better value than spending $200+ on the trending coolers. We had a heat index yesterday of 97 so I should really be able to test it out over the summer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool idea As far as its main function of being a cooler, it performs as expected. Filled it with ice in the morning and it lasted all day in 90 degree weather with some ice still floating around in the water at the end of the night. The cooler opens easily with one hand. I've had other coolers that were a pain to pry open or where the lid eventually detached due to poor construction, but this one has no issues in that area. The a/c part of the cooler adds some weight so its a good thing it has wheels to be pulled along. Charging the battery with the included charger took about 4 hours. There are two compartments in the lid of the cooler, the one on the left houses the motor for the blower and the battery, the one on the right is empty and gives you an area to store some items. The "air conditioning" works by pulling cool air from inside the cooler and blowing it out of the front. It is a neat feature that we used to cool off with occasionally for a few minutes by standing in front of the cooler. It feels nice but don't expect low humidity air like you would get out of an actual air conditioner. It does blow air with some force, however. You can feel it even if you're standing 6 feet away.

First it is very heavy when ice and other things are in it and hard to pull. When attempted to use the fan it did not work because the little soft plastic piece that is below the spot that triggers the fan when the lid is closed came off and I did not know this until I emptied the cooler. Lucky that piece did not come out when I drained the water. I do not remember ever hitting that area of the cooler. But that piece should not come off that easy. This happened the first time I used it. I had the cooler less than 1 month. Not a cooler for one person to lift into a vehicle when loaded with ice. So disappointed.
