Will this saw handle 2X6 treated lumber?

I need to cut half circles at the ends of 2X6 treated lumber for my pier - will this saw handle that workload? If so, what is the best blade?
Asked by: Jerry
I did buy the saw and it did the necessary cuts to replace the decking on my pier. Could have used a better saw but for the price and the number of times I will need to cut this type of lumber, it was a great choice.

The saw has a smooth motion. Not like older saws that bounce your cut and leave jagged edges. For the price and quality you will not be disappointed.

The built in light and dust blower work well for showing you just how badly the blade is moving around. I don't know if it's the blade support or if I got a defective unit, but even strait cuts are beveled by 10 degrees one way or the other on the depth of the cut and take constant correction to keep the blade on track. God help you if you try to cut a curve. The blade will bend so badly that a 15 degree bevel is just par for the course! To be fair if you turn off the oscillation and go painfully slow it is possible to get cuts that are close (within 5 degrees) to perpendicular to the face, but if you move faster than a snail you will be sorely dissapointed in the quality of the cut this saw gives you. I tried Bosch, Dewalt, and Skill blades. It didn't matter, the cuts were still horrible. In 3/4 stock one side of the board would be 1/4" off from the other. That takes a lot of cleanup work to fix. I even had a couple of pieces where the off cuts wouldn't come out because they were held in place by the opposing bevels. I bought this Ryobi to replace my 20 year old Black and Decker that worked fine but only took U shank blades, had no oscillation, and a very shallow stroke. A cheap saw had done well for me in the past so I thought it would this time. I was wrong. At least the B&D can cut a strait line and doesn't bend the blade when you cut a curve. I ended up returning this Ryobi and getting the Dewalt DW331K which has performed extremely well. The Dewalt is a bit on the heavy side, but it works so well I can put up with that. I can't give this Ryobi saw more than 1 star because it does such a horrible job that you waste a ton of time cleaning up its mess. I also noticed that the Ryobi and Rigid saws share a lot of the same parts so I'm not sure how much I trust the Rigid name now. I guess if they only share the parts that aren't that important it really doesn't matter, but it still makes me wary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice. Used this to cut the hole in a new countertop for a kitchen sink. The variable speed dial works well and adjustment was very smooth. This saw has plenty of power. The ability to select the amount of orbital motion is a nice feature and I liked that its able to be turned to "zero" for what I was doing to make a smoother cut. The only thing I had to do was install a blade and adjust the plate angle to 90 degrees. I'm not one that will be using this saw everyday but it seems well built and that it should last a long time.

It is very difficult to get the base of the saw to 90 degrees and the vibrations cause the locking nut to loosen. So, even if by some miracle you get it to 90 degrees, by mid cut it will have shifted. If you need this saw for small jobs where precious isn't important then great, save the money and buy it. But if cut angles matter to you just fork out the extra dough for a better tool.

I brought it just get through a day of work having left my usual jig saw at home. I only gave it 4 stars because I have only had use it once, but I like the balance so much I actually find it very comparable to usual jig saw.

I held all the Jigsaws on display at my local HD and found that this Ryobi has a great center of balance and very ergonomic. Variable speed is a must and the LED light works great. Cut straight and curved lines with no wobble.
