At what pressure is the compressor supposed to turn off? It should cycle on and off as the air is used. My brand new unit continues running until I cut it off at 200 psig on the tank gauge. I have tried this three separate times by releasing the pressure. I ran the compressor the 30 minute break in period as indicated in the manual.

I used the compressor for a roofing project and was able to run two roofing guns off it. Do I risk burning the motor out if it runit all the time non stop?
Asked by: Joe
All motors and mechanical devices have a life expectancy, the more it's used the sooner it will reach it, that does not necessarily shorten the usable hours but the time it takes to reach that point. I would be more concerned if it has to run none stop to keep up, as the compressor motor is not designed for continuous duty operation and heat factors. Give it a break once in a while.

will this air a car tire?

Asked by: kc
Hi KC. It certainly will. We also have inflator that may be more compact like the P737 or P731. The battery and charger will be separate.

Once when it first arrived to "break in", as instructed in the manual, once to blow out the garage and today to blow out heavy dust from the kitchen refrigerator cooling coils. Then the air pressure dropped and it sounded like it's leaking air, badly. I'm assuming a fitting behind the cover shield has broken or come loose, which is unbelievable, since the compressor has been sitting in the same place in my garage since I unpacked it. I specifically purchased a long air line, so the unit wouldn't have to be moved. Will take it back to the store and beg for credit to buy another brand. I've seen other reviews online where this same thing happened, which I assume is why Ryobi has discontinued it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ryobi 6 gal compressor The compressor was easy to assemble for use as there was so little to it. Could have used an exploded view of item to tell me where different controls were located instead of me having to find them on my own. A diagram of the NPT fitting would have been easy with a life size illustration of it. As there are many different fittings, the term NPT is not universal for all of us. The term universal is used and I thought that meant the on board connectors would take any male fitting instead of the one NPT fitting.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from leaking regulator after one year. Compressor was good for about 1 year. Then the regulator started leaking called ryobi customer service they said I could take it to any home depot to get it sent to their service center. 4 weeks later get a call that it is ready for pickup. Home depot charged for diagnosis even though the compressor was still under warranty. Bring the compressor home and same problem remains. The regulator is leaking air. This was extremely poor service from Home Depot and Ryobi. I am out money and the compressor is still not fixed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still early on, but... I bought this Ryobi compressor to replace a Porter Cable with similar specs that bit the dust (the motor brushes had chipped and scored the commutator shaft beyond repair). This Ryobi cost $20 more (on sale for $120) than the Porter Cable (on sale for $100) but that seemed worth it given the positive reviews and 3-year-warranty on the Ryobi vs only 1-year on the Porter Cable. Plus, I've had generally good experiences with Ryobi tools in the past. When I bought mine, the Ryobi was only available online (took a week to arrive), while you could carry the Porter Cable out of the store the same day. That was almost a deal breaker, but now I'm glad I had a little patience. When I removed the plastic housing to have a look at the air filter (the P.C. compressor doesn't have one) I was impressed by the size of the compressor piston and generally robust appearance of the internal mechanism. The universal air hose connectors (accept all major styles) are another nice difference. An embarrassing side note: I thought my hose connectors were defective and called customer service (pleasant, but not helpful). Ends up you just have to push your hose into the connectors harder than I had been willing to for fear of doing damage. My 4 vs 5 star ratings are only because I haven't had the chance to really put it through its paces yet. I've only used it to power a framing hammer while framing six windows and two skylight wells. It's performed flawlessly so far. Pretty much comparable to the Porter Cable in terms of cycling time and decibel level. The vertically mounted vs horizontally mounted tank isn't just a gimmick. The Ryobi design really is easier to tote around than the Porter Cable. Be sure to snake your hose through the bottom of the tank as instructed to keep it from tipping over. I'm a happy, satisfied owner so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent and well made, but loud Very happy with this compressor. I like it's design, portability and ease of use. I do not use it with any air tools, but as a general compressor for an air gun. As warned, it is loud and I must use ear protection. When using it as an air gun, it does cycle on quite quickly. I have a 10 gallon aluminum air tank, and this unit fills it up quite easily. I called Home Depot to compare it with the Rigid. First of all, the Home Depot customer service rep, was very knowledgeable and was able to compare the differences very quickly. The Rigid is cheaper, but less power and a few db's louder. So far, I have no regrets. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't so loud

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best bargains in a long time Besides the low price - I got it for $149.00 - I was surprised by the weight of the box! Unpacked and read the straight-forward instructions. Even if you are a pro with brad guns and nailers, it is advisable to read the separate booklet for the compressor (there is a 30 minute break-in time required for the compressor before use, although the average person will want to get right down to business!) Each gun also comes with a separate operating booklet and 500 brads or staples accordingly; lubricant is also supplied. I used the break in time to acquaint myself with the system, set the pressure and put down an entire LUAN floor in my kitchen in (for me) record time. Definite thumbs up on this kit, and it would make a great addition to anyone's tool collection. The compressor is loud (like any compressor), so use ear protection in enclosed spaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit New design is great! Weighs the same as other 6 gallon pancake compressors, but the vertical design is so much easier to carry that it even feels lighter. Also stores in smaller space.
