Questions & Answers

battery included?

Asked by: jona
Thank you for asking, Jona. The saw has a powerful 9 amp motor with sufficient power to handle tough cutting jobs. It is made with all ball bearings, and has externally accessible brushes for ease of servicing. The only batteries that are included with this saw are the two AAA batteries needed for the laser. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

can it cut 4x4?

Asked by: cnell
Seriously? It's a 7.25" diameter blade, dude. That's a 3 5/8" radius minus the shaft radius. I hope you're doing this with adult supervision...

I’m converting a garden shed into an office and as a relatively novice DIY’er I needed a miter saw that was not only functional but easy to use...and not scary. I clad the entire shed 10x12 in 1x6 spruce tongue and groove, reframed 3 windows and am now finishing putting in 1x3 beadboard on the ceiling and this saw has been amazing! With the 1x6's I had to cut one side and then the other so if you I were to do it again I probably would buy up one size, but for the price it can't be beat. I'm using the angle cutting on the ceiling boards and it works like a charm. It's lightweight and super portable. If I had any complaints it would be that the little catch all sawdust bag gets full way too quick and it doesn't really help much, but hey, it's a saw, so I expected a lot of sawdust.

I'm a first time home renovator and wanted to install chair rail and baseboards myself. I've never worked with a miter saw before so I had to sit down and actually ready the directions. Even though I know this saw isn't a 'professional' model it's works perfectly fine for what I want to do. I would recommend it if you were doing small projects because obviously the blade can't accommodate large pieces of wood. It has all the adjustment you would want as well as a laser mark guide.

Right out of the box the laser was way off, so I took out the instructions and tried to calibrate. I got the laser to an acceptable accuracy but ended up eyeing it anyway because I couldn't get it perfect. saw works great, I used it to cut some laminate flooring I was laying in a closet and a bunch of 2X4's for some shelving. I've had it about 6 months and it seems like it's time for a new blade but I got a lot of use (and some abuse) out of that one. I rigged up a connector for my shop vac as the bag it comes with does absolutely nothing to collect dust. Oh and like any other Miter saw, it sucks for lefty's but i'm used to that :-)

I have other miter saws, but this little guy is perfect when you want to maybe just install base molding or something in one room. You can bring it right in the room with you and save a lot of time. I mounted it on a small scrap of 3/4" plywood for setting it right on the floor, so a couple 2 x 4 scraps plied on top of each other can serve as outriggers to hold the stock you are sawing. I bought a better finish blade for it, to be used mainly for small trim - but it can cut a 2 x 4 just fine if you need it to. I've used it on a few jobs now and so far I'm very happy with it.

If I could change one thing, it would be a faster clamping mechanism. If you change size a lot the clamp slows you down. The saw held true for my cuts but the laser line is not quite right. Once you establish the amount of correction you are good to go! (there was life before lasers!) If you remember it is a small saw you will be happy with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Oh man I bought this product and when i took it it out of the box the blade was loose so figured I would get a finer blade well I'm here to tell you I put the finer blade in it wouldn't tighten back up and when it did and I went to go cut wood the whole blade started shaking it would not cut off even though I cut the off button to the off position I had to unplug it so no I wouldn't recommend this to anybody
