Betty,
Yes, this worked outside for me no problem. It comes with a little rubber circle thing that helps it stick to surfaces that aren't smooth, and it stuck to my hardy board siding no problem to laser level my deck. It isn't the luxury version of a laser level, but it worked find for limited use projects.

Yes it will work outside. Keep in mind that the general use case for this device is to shoot a laser beam across a wall. The device, via suction, sticks to a wall and you, using the built in level create a level beam of light across that wall. So as far as working outside if you are trying to create a level line across a wall the unit needs to be able to stick (create suction) to the wall. Thus the wall needs to be relatively smooth (like drywall) or perhaps smooth concrete. You likely won't get it to stick to a rough brick wall for instance. Read Less

I had the same problem. There is no separate switch for the laser. Make sure the batteries are correctly installed. I reversed the polarity of the batteries and it worked.
Hope that helps.

There is only one switch on the side of the unit that turns on both the laser and the vacuum that holds it to the surface of the wall. Do you hear the buzz of the vacuum?

That large grey button that's supposed to turn on the suction to mount it to the wall? The laser is supposed to come on at the same time. I had the same problem and posted a negative review. The manufacturer contacted me and I just received a replacement unit that works just fine.

Answer:
I'm not sure I understand your question. It shoots a laser level straight line. It doesn't bend your wall. When shooting to a corner, it shoots a straight line on each side, unless you're shooting at an angle, in which case you get an angled laser line. Perhaps you can clarify what you're asking and I'd be happy to shoot it at a corner and give you a picture.

Answer:
You'll need a prism for that. Or a mirror. Or a rotating/spinning laser level. Or a physicist. I don't believe science hasn't progressed to bending standard laser beams in laser levels from Home Depot.

Answer:
No. On a painted drywall it bends maybe an inch onto the perpendicular wall and with that the laser beam is a bit splayed out.

Air Grip Compact Laser Level is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 84.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from In expensive for the casual user This is a nice little laser level and is sufficient for hanging pictures or doing other minor work that requires a tool like this. It has a little suction cup and when you turn it on it actually pumps to create the vacuum to keep it on the wall or where ever you are putting it. I have not used it much so I'm not sure how the battery life might be after prolonged usage given it has to run a little motor to maintain the suction. I wish it had a mode for turning the suction off if you were going to use it in a situation where you don't require it to preserve battery life and reduce noise as it is a bit noisy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Laser Level Good product for the price. It's a little noisy, but that's not a huge deal. I made a silly error when installing the batteries, so the pump worked but the laser didn't. I called the Ryobi support number and the guy was really helpful. I've only used it on drywall and it worked as expected. It's a good idea - especially against a longer run - to take a handheld level and make sure you are still level at the opposite end. Good product. I bought it for one particular project, but I'm sure I'll find plenty of uses for it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst $20 ever spent. The unit is noisy, needs it's mounting assisting material on even the light... Worst $20 ever spent. The unit is noisy, needs it's mounting assisting material on even the lightest textured surface. Burns through batteries and doesnt shine but about 10 feet. Save your money and by a better product. Disappointed in Ryobi on this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Laser Level for Smaller Jobs I was looking for a cost effective laser level to hang some shelving/hooks/pictures, etc. in our new home. I saw some poor reviews for this item saying it wouldn't stick to the wall or that it was noisy, but I found it to be an excellent purchase! First off, sure, it can be a little noisy because of the built in compressor it uses to suction to the wall, but having that is a huge plus! Other similarly priced options (especially the ones I looked at in other stores, such as SKIL) use putty that wears out and is a pretty lame way to set up something you'll want to use, re-use, and move during a project. I have also had NO problems getting it to stick to textured/untextured surfaces, slightly uneven surfaces, wood, drywall, stone, etc. I went out of my way to try it on multiple surfaces because of the poor reviews some people had left, but overall I am completely happy with this item and it does what it is supposed to do. I can't vouch for its durability, but it does seem to be higher quality than the aforementioned alternatives I had looked at/used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little laser! Bought it for hanging artwork etc. It suctions to everything I have tried it on, so I'm a happy camper! Batteries were a bit difficult to get in, had a problem getting the "cover" for the batteries off. After that, I'm good to go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from work well. gets the work done with no problems Hi I see people complaining about this product that is noisy. it works good for me. it has a built in mini air compressor of course it make noisy. it's also only $20 bucks. if you want something more sophisticated home depot vast selection and more expensive one. but I guess you'll be complaining then about the price then. well bottom line is the product work good as it was designed. I have being trying it on different walls around the house and it grips just fine. Ohh I do not work for Ryobi nor Home depot I'm just a consumer. thank you

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty slick laser level, entry level product Pretty slick laser level if you're looking for a limited use type product. I had some difficulty inserting the batteries, not because it was difficult, but because it felt like putting the cover back on would break it. Turns out as you push on the cover it can push the batteries back out preventing it from closing. Once you overcome that obstacle, it does work as advertised, which is a bit different from other laser levels that I have used in that it has a suction feature so it can adhere to surfaces which is pretty cool. There is even a floppy rubber thing that comes with it that you need so it can suction to porous surfaces - definitely pretty cool. Wish it used C or even 9V batteries and could last a bit longer than the AAA, but pretty good and would recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great product works great - using the simple attachement i have yet to find a surface it doesnt stick to (Im a handy man). great gadget- great price if youre trying to throw a line long distance - it will be off very very minimally ... if youre ocd - you will want to also have a torpedo level to double check every 15 to 30 feet. all in all a great consumer product... I'd recommend.
