This one works pretty good. The metal on the mortis can get bent if you do not use it correctly. These last a while, and then need to be replaced with a new one. I get about 15-25 doors worth out of one of these.

This thing may work on soft pine door, but I used it on an oak door, and it broke on the first door!

I like the Hinge jig - it works good.
I like the Knob jig - works well also.
I do not like this Door Latch jig at all. The initial outline chisel does not cut into the door enough - and the cut-out chisel keep bending so that it does not cut deep enough. Have to keep bending it back into shape to try to get it to work, then end up using a hand chisel to finish the job.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by pmikejunot Guaranteed to ruin your door edge!
After owning this jig for over a year and damaging the three raised panel pine doors I used it on, it's time for the trash can. After using the awesome Ryobi door hinge installation kit, I was excited to get the door latch kit. This jig is nothing like the hinge kit. The idea is good, but the execution is pathetic. The "cutter" just dents the wood, not scoring it clean enough or deep enough to get the job done. After pounding on the plastic with a hammer, tapping down and up to chisel the mortise results in tear-out and damaging the door edge. I've been in the trades for 38 years so I really don't understand the positive reviews for this jig. I will continue to score around the plate with a utility knife and chisel to the correct depth, leaving my door edge in tact without having to patch the tear out. I would pay double for the same type of jig Ryobi makes for the hinge kit, using a router for the mortise. This jig should be recalled!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ToolMan Ryobi Door latch installation tool... horrible
Before buying this tool I read all the negative reviews and positive reviews, and decided to give it a try since I am fairly handy with tools. But let me tell you, this tool is, in a word, horrible. Like other reviewers have mentioned, you'd be better off with a hand chisel.
I have pine doors that I wanted to install latches to, so I figured this tool would be fine since it is soft wood. But I was wrong, the chisel parts -- one that makes the outline, and one that bores out the outline, are too dull. It takes forever to chisel it out with the awkward tool, and in the process I ended up putting dents in the frame because the tool gets banged against the frame.
For the price, I would have been better off buying a good quality chisel and just doing it by hand... which is what you end up doing, just with this awkward tool.

I have 9 pre-hung interior doors to hang. This simple little device has worked beautifully for me. It makes the task quick and simple. I’ve achieved great results on each door, starting with the first one. A couple things, my doors have pine frames. I’m guessing this system may take a little more effort and care with hardwood. I’ve been using a rubber mallet to whack the device. That has given me more than enough force and greatly lessens the change that I’ll damage it (it is made of plastic). The template makes an accurate and well-placed score and the built-in chisels remove the material cleanly in 1 or 2 passes (again working with pine). This is a specialized tool that does one specialized task. Based on that, it may be the best $10 I’ve ever spent on a tool. Even if I never use it again, it was well worth the price.

If you need to cut out a door latch, spend your money on a good 1" chisel instead of this product, it's what you'll end up having to do anyway. When I attempted to follow the instructions and use it, I ended up causing damage to the door. None of the parts are sharp enough to actually cut clean and it just tore a section of the doors side off. Luckily I already owned a good chisel and was able to quickly finish the job, but I still had to patch and repair the damage that was done. I only bought this tool because I thought it would make for a quick guide but it isn't all that accurate and you're paying for all the other "features" which don't really work.

Does what its suppose to do and makes latch installation much easier. Light weight construction but held up thru 5 doors with no problems.
