Customer Questions & Answers

What is the most preferred type of trmmer head shaft configuaration, Curved or Strait?

Asked by: Scootter
Curved if you are short. Straight if you are taller than 6 ft 8 in. On a shorter person, a straight shaft will put the motor near your ear (EH?), especially if an extension is used, because the cheapskates won't put the swivel and gearing on to allow adjusting the head angle of straight shafts. (I think the straight shaft "design" hurt my hearing worse than the Huey did in Vietnam.) Also, curved if you are right handed and don't like dirt kicked back in your face. The cheapskates haven't figured how to include a pinion gear so the straight shaft can turn clockwise.

Is the head removable? I have to throw an old curved shaft attachment away today because the head is not. (This is the only curved shaft one, other than Echo, which can only be used with an Echo, I can find at Home depot, but it is not currently available)
Asked by: Piloto
Hi Piloto. Yes, the head on this string trimmer attachment is removable. It comes with our Reel-Easy bump feed string head for fast and easy line replacement, but this can be swapped out for a different head if you wish. Hope this helps!

Expand-It 17 in. Universal Curved Shaft String Trimmer Attachment is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 126.

Bought this to replace the straight-shaft trimmer that came with my Ryobi cordless power head and am only sorry that I didn't do it last year. It is 100% easier to trim using this vs. the long-shafted attachment that can be difficult to control. It has the same bump-head string feeder as the other one and it is working just fine for me; I expect no problems. One thing where I differ from the instructions is that I always do the bump-feed on a hard surface such as a driveway or paving stone. Doing it in the grass might work, but you are also going to end up with a mini-crop circle in your lawn!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight, powerful and comfortable to use. I got this at Homedepot from their clearance shelf since I had the 40V power head and despite having the worx 20V cordless trimmer as well as a gas powered trimmer. This Ryobi 40V trimmer is lighter than the gas powered trimmer, so it's less tiring. In comparison to the worx, the Ryobi feels lighter still and easier to use as most of the weight is at the power head at the trigger switch, while the worx has its weight distributed along the whole tool and has a heavier base at the trimmer strings. Using the worx is like holding a gallon of milk with the arms raise forward away from the body, while the ryobi feels more like holding a gallon of milk with the arms closer to the body which makes it less tiring. The cutting diameter to the Ryobi is also wider and with the 40V battery, it's also more powerful. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It will cut Purchased to accompany the 4 stroke power stick. This string trimmer is a powerhouse. It will quickly take down tall grass without an issue. Every once in a while with the thicker grass, the head seemed to bog down a bit. However, the pace of work was never slowed due to this. Great trimmer and power head! If you get frustrated reloading a single line trimmer, wait until you try this dual line job. I just spent 4 hours doing a 30 minute job. The line locks up frequently, requiring head disassembly to clear. When empty, if you can reload new line without swearing, you are a saint. I'll get my old Weedeater repaired and never use this attachment again.

The cheapest way I could get a safety shroud was to order the entire bottom piece. Ruining told me they would send me a handle. That was a month ago. Will never purchase a refurbished unit again

They sell higher cost units in store forces customer to pay more or having to wait to have it shipped. Hope this one doesn't lock up and break the cable as the original head did. It is however cheaper than buying a new weed eater.
