I bought a 4 cycle power head two years ago. Because of the exchange feature. This year couldn't get the thing to start.
Bought a replacement, but, not really satisfied. I already have a trimmer and pruner attachment so I am kind of stuck with this power head.
Difficult to start, but, when running seems to be dependable enough.. String can be an issue.
For a few bucks more, purchase a different brand. Home Depot should do better research on the products that they sell.

I've bought 2 of these over the last few years, taking the first one as something I did. It gums up when it sits too long, ok, but I had another brand from the same store that all I did was lean it in the corner and clean it up every once in awhile for 12 years. Guess what I just used to edge my yard for the first time this year when the above mentioned product didn't start.........
Before someone starts in with the drain the gas and blah blah blah. I want something that works all the time, not something that works as long as you do 1, 2, 3, 4, ....

This power head replaces my older 2 cycle one and I have to say it's a big improvement. First no oil to mix. This head also has more torque and drives my edger and tiller attachments better. The deeper sound is also better.
This is a must - Read and Follow the directions for starting and storage. If you do this you will be glad you bought it. I have ran most of my Expand-It attachments and it has performed perfectly on each. The flexibility of this power head and the Expand-It attachments will cover all of you lawn and garden needs. This is a great and very versatile power head.

I loved the idea of a 4-stroke, and needed it to work with my existing attachments. This fit the bill for both... BUT:
If you run this unit inverted (upside-down) - it will smoke (burn oil) like crazy. I do this a lot - so this was a big issue.
The greater issue is the fact that if you don't store the unit in the HORIZONTAL position, it will HYDRAULIC LOCK. This essentially means you can't pull-start it because the engine is locked up. I returned 2 units due to locking before I figured this out. I have not confirmed that storing it in a vertical position will fix this issue - but it's a non-started for me (no pun intended) because I don't have room in my garage to store this thing horizontally, and I'm not going to re-layout every shovel, broom, rake and self in my garage storage setup to accommodate this one unit this needs to be stored horizontally (unlike everything else in my garage).

I had a Ryobi four stroke trimmer and the attachments that have been used at home for the past 15 years. I've had issues with the connection clamp, cleaned the carburetor. It was getting hard to start with poor compression. I ground the valve seats and adjusted the lifters and got two more years of use out of it. The motor, although runs, is tired.
My past Ryobi has served me well, so I purchased a new Ryobi four stroke trimmer. It starts on the second pull each time after I prime it with five pumps. Runs much stronger, as to be expected. I still use my original attachments, 15 years old and counting. I see a lot of poor reviews but honestly don't know if it's customers poor maintenance or quality issues.
I'm halfway through my first season with no issues. I'm expecting many more years of good service.

Basically I paid around $150.00 for one years use. I have had this unit since they came out with it and i will make sure not to ever buy any Ryobi products based on the performance of this unit. You vote with your money and for this vote, you might as well wipe with it

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Vice Same Issues as others have mentioned. Very Disappointing
I read the other reviews and realized it wasn't just me having the same problems. I have many of the attachments and started with the 2 cycle and moved up to the 4 cycle and initially found it to be a perfect upgrade but that lasted for about three months of use. The problems I have had are repeated over and over again in other reviews. I would love to find another brand that will allow me to use the numerous attachments I already have. If you purchased and wrote a great review like I did in the pass be ready to be at the point where many of us are with this unit after a few months of use. This purchase was not worth it and I do not recommend.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by displeased worst purchase in decades
I purchased the multi head power source with attachments from Home Depot and the power head won't start. it continually fails to start, the head attachments are wonderfully inter-changeable, but the overall power source will not perform. I am incredibly disappointed with my purchase will never buy a Riboi product or tool again. I spent nearly $300 on the power head and attachments and it is truly a piece of unacceptable workmanship. I am so disappointed in the product and performance. I encourage other shopper to purchase any other brand.
