I have been using and worn out several of the 2 cycle heads over the years and have no plans to replace my accessories unless I wear them out and yes, that I have also done. I think I have most every Expand It accessory of practical use for the home and garden.

Now most of the product's at box stores are made in same factory over sea's they tend to change some dimensions or specs for specific Brand names for copy right's. The current expand it last few years appear to be the same. Now the power heads are way different on the 4 stroke models, than few years ago, when most of the main engine parts are plastic. in a high revving machine that is spinning as much as your car does at low speed. Cars do not rely on plastic in friction surfaces. WHY ? it breaks oh yea!!!! or melt's. But it is cheaper to make and our Bottom line looks better. Now Big Box store's are not aware of some of these problems unless you use feedback.
If I WAS BUYING A TRIMMER WOULD BE AMERICAN AND ON SITE REPAIR. OR LIKE ALOT BUY ONE RETURN IT BUY ANOTHER ONE RETURN IT,by then you have $400.00 in time gas and blood pressure med's. other Companies like Stihl have accessories setup's also are more $$ and they can also have lemon's like anything on production line.

I have no experience with the accessories on this unit. I had 3 of them and none of them lasted long enough to think about buying any of the accessories. Therefore I can't reccomend purchasing this weed eater. You might want to look at the Echo weed eater, no accessories but a good product. In fact Home Depot has is on sale right now for $199.99. Hope this answers your question

Yes, but the powerhead is of very poor quality. I would go with a better brand like Stihl, Echo or Husqvarna. I have other Stihl equipment tht is in excess of 12 years old and have had great service for that brand. Ryobi is simply poor quality and even though the attachments work fine for what they're designed for, you need a quality power source. Buy something else!

I have bought "Expand it" attachments for mine. The problem I have is the head.....pretty useless in my opinion. It takes so long to start the thing and I have never had the chance to wear out the attachments as it never runs long enough to finish a task! Neighbors are always admiring my yard that is half cleared of weeds!

No!! Anything you have to over your head it will not work! IE- chainsaw attachment. The gas pick-up is stuck in the front of tank and anytime you try to cut a limb shoulder high or higher it runs the engine out of gas.

This item is just the gas powered motor only. As far as I know it can only be purchased on line. When you purchase this in a store it will come with the string trimmer and cost a little more than just the power head alone.

I reviewed the head unit only. Attachments are sold separately. Both the 4cycle and 2 cycle are sold with straight or bent shaft trimmer attachments.
Years ago I bought the pruner attachment with a bent shaft trimmer and power head. I think it was a fathers day special. I have not seen that deal since.

Yes, It will fit all expand-it tools. I bought this as my 2 stroke died. Works awesome with the tiller and the pole saw.
BTW - your 2 stroke needs a new carburetor or a rebuild. I got a kit (for the dead carb) and a new carburator, for 30 bucks off ebay. 2-stroke runs like new so I use it with the trimmer as the 4 stroke is heavier.

I bought this power head and was able to use old attachments from my Ryobi 2 stroke and even the Troy -built attachments I had. This included the straight string edger, the blower/leaf vac and hedge trimmer Ryobi plus the blade edger from troy. I brought an attachment into the store and confirmed they would fit at the display before I bought the head.

Not sure; if you have the unit check to see if it will attach safely, but I recommend you use the attachments provided by the manufacture, this way you are sure all parts are compatible and if they don't work it would be an easy return. Hope this helps have a great day.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not impressed I bought this Ryobi X430 Expand-it system with; pole saw attachment and weed eater attachment. It ran great on it's first use and all seemed well. Upon the second attempted use I could not get it to keep running. I also noticed that the "air filter" (if you can call it that) was saturated with oil. I researched the issue and found lots of others had the same problem (both S430 and X430). I set about trying to perform the recommended adjustments and found that my version did not have the 2-screw carb adjustment. Strange since the symptoms were exactly the same as others I read. Even though the fuel was fresh and treated with stabil, I decided to drain the gas. At that time I noticed that the fuel line/filter assembly had come loose inside the tank. Easy fix! After re-attaching (a tedious chore) I pulled the rope and it fired right up. I marched down the the weeds I needed to eliminate and after going a few feet, I noticed one end of the line had broken off flush with the head. However, because of the jumbled mess of line inside the head, I had a VERY difficult time removing the spool. I wrestled with it for over an hour. Finally I got it re-lined but by then the Texas sun was baring down on me. Because of the poor design of this tool, I wasted several hours, over the span of 2 days between the idling issue and the string tangle. I need to do some work with the pole saw but after all this, I have little confidence in Ryobi and will never purchase the brand again. A trusted employee of Home Depot told me these did not have an unusually high return rate. I have no ill feelings about their advice but would warn anyone shopping for a multi-attachment tool should look elsewhere. October 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great value for the money had all the expand-it tools... 2 cycle unit stopped running after a few years so i decided to try the 4 cycle... no need to mix gas and oil and i'm a lazy american :) ... my house takes 2 hours to trim with a weed wacker... i have 7 rentals that i use this on every other week... i see some bad reviews and i guess with ryobi it might be a hit or miss... but i've only had great experiences with their tools... as for this tool and all other gas tools my only tip is to use 93 octane gas... i had a repair guy tell me this and it seems to keep things running longer and better... he told me not to bother with the additives... just keep using high octane... sometimes you get what you pay for, but sometimes you pay for more than what you get... Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good First time to use the product, but it started easy and ran fine. No issues. October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Learn From My Fail. DO NOT BUY THIS! I have a little slice of suburbia in a 4-season climate. This means lawn care is expensive in my area, because they only cut 6 months out of the year, and therefore charge extra. So I figured I would do the lawn care myself and save money. I looked into the options: Echo, Husqvarna, etc. I wanted a system that was cost effective, had multiple attachments (to save space in my tiny garage) and reliable. Me being someone who lacks reading comprehension, I ignored the high ratings on the Husqvarna and Echo devices and got swayed by the low cost of the Ryobi products (HD's house brand). Do not make the same mistake I did. Learn from my fail. Remember how daddy and grandpa always said to spend good money on good tools, because they will pay for themselves in the long run? I did not and I'm paying for it now. A bit of background: I bought the Expand-It 4-cycle head and ALL THE ACCESSORIES: the curved trimmer, blower, edger, hedge trimmer, and chainsaw attachment. Granted these devices are significantly cheaper than the comparable good quality devices from Echo and Husqvarna, and there is a good reason for that. Before I get into the details of my ownership, I'll say this: if you are looking to spend the least amount of money on lawn care equipment, and also have a terminal medical diagnosis of less than 12 months and/or you are boarding the UFO mothership in 12 months, then by all means buy he Ryobi set. Because the Ryobi equipment will not last more than 12 months of steady use. This is a stone cold fact. My ownership experience went like this: the power head worked fine for about 2 years of use until it no longer would start. Mind you this was after the locking collar that secured the attachments to the power head stripped the nut that you tightened to secure it. This failure point renders the entire system inoperable. I jury rigged a workaround with a pair of locking vise grips to clamp the locking collar closed, because the stripped nut was WELDED TO THE DARN COLLAR AND COULD NOT BE REPLACED SHORT OF SWAPPING OUT THE ENTIRE DRIVE SHAFT COLUMN. In the engineering world, this is called 'a single point of failure'. In my world this is also called "an imbecilic choice of design philosophy'. You can replace the drive shaft but it's expensive ($50) and you must be better at mechanical repairs than me, because I pooched it up. BECAUSE, no one would work on said Ryobi device without charging a price equivalent to the purchase of buying a new one. Mind you, the attachments fared marginally better. The hedge trimmer failed after 1 year; just locked up. The wound string trimmer chronically jammed when being reloaded, pretty much from the get go, and the bump advancer also did not work. I replaced the wound string head with the Ryobi one that accepts the three pre-cut strips. That sucker EATS those things, when it wasn't spitting them out across the lawn; I would go thru an entire package every 2 weeks. It took 12 months, and it too failed; I have short nubs of string trimmer jammed in the loading holes and I cannot remove them. The blower is the only accessory that hasn't failed, and for that I salute Ryobi, because I have always said their products blow. The chainsaw trimmer has worked reasonably well, but again it has a hunger for the lubricating oil, and the chain would frequently derail. The edger has lasted but it does feel as though it's about to shake loose at any moment, and will get jammed with dirt and grass pretty quickly. When the gas power head failed, I ended up replacing it with the Ryobi electric power head. I'm not proud of this, but I was in grad school at the time and I did not have the time to send these godforsaken products off on the Viking funeral they so richly deserved, nor did I have the money to replace them with proper tools. The electric power head has also failed. Guess what part failed?? Go ahead, I'll wait... if you guessed the locking collar, then you have been paying attention! I have graduated, and once I get a new job, I'm gonna do what I should have done 3 years ago: buy Echo products. There's a reason that lawn care companies use Echo and Husqvarna. That reason is why you should NEVER BUY A RYOBI PRODUCT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. May 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! The only reason I gave this product 1 star is because you can't give it zero stars! I bought this product to replace a 2 stroke trimmer I'd had for 15 years that finally gave up the ghost. It was extremely hard to start right out of the box. I mean I literally had to stand on the unit while I pulled the cord to get it to pull. I figured maybe it was just because it was the first time and it would get better the next time. Nope! It was extremely hard to get started everytime we used it. I'm a renter so I don't have a ton of trimming to do. We used the unit twice last season after I bought it. It was stored over the winter and we used it once this spring. probably less than 5 hours in all on the engine. We went to use it the 4 th time since I purchased it and it wouldn't start, the pull cord was stuck. I changed the spark plug and checked the oil, unstuck the pull cord and still nothing. The oil was full, gas was fresh. I took it into the Ryobi service center and they said there were metal shavings in the oil that I ran it low on oil. I explained how this was impossible that it must be a defective product. they told me I would have to call Ryobi myself and try to get it covered. Long story, short, Ryobi says they can only go by what the repair center is telling them. I can take it to another repair center to see if I can get a second opinion and then maybe they will cover it. I'm totally disgusted with Ryobi customer service. They do not stand behind a product that is so obviously defective. Do not buy this or any Ryobi products. I should have read more of the reviews before purchasing this product. Lesson learned... September 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product 4 cycle runs strong! I really like this trimmer and like that I no longer have to mix oil and gas! September 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Misleading This does not come with the trimmer or anything, why would you wedge it in with the weed trimmers if it isn't one? I'm got home and realized I have to go back to the store more than likely I'm just going to return this and get something else. September 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I like it! Only used it twice so far, but it works great. The engine is quite and starts easy. September 6, 2016
