Does not glide smoothly, anybody modify?

Has anybody trimmed off that guide below the wheel? It makes it really have to keep everything moving along. I would have bought the Echo kit, but they do not carry it in stores, that seems like a better design.

Answer:
There a technique to it. This edger also requires some elbow grease. You need a good base first. Use a straight shovel to get rid of overgrow and to start your cut then use a straight trimmer to finish the edges. Once you get a good base, then use an edger. But not this one. It really is a bad design.

Answer:
Drbll, I had to trim my guide down by about an inch. Mine to was too long and dug into the ground instead of allowing the attachment to move along properly. I used a hacksaw and a file to smooth the edges.

Answer:
I know it uses the Ryobi Expand It family of attachments which fit both Ryobi gas and electric Ryobi models. And since the gas models accept universal attachments then it should be that the RY 40220 electric will as well.

Answer:
It will be hard to answer the question completely without having the Hasqvarna model number you have or plan to have. Several of the Hasqvarna models will accept attachments from other manufacturers but as stated before it will depend on the model and size of the shaft.

Answer:
Yes the edger attachment, as well as, all the other attachments for the Expand-It line will fit your trimmer. The point at which you will attach all the other attachments is above the curve. You can actually get a straight shaft attachment for your trimmer if you wanted to!

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 213 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fine for most work I bought this because I already had the power head from my Ryobi 48v string trimmer. It is surprisingly good for a rechargeable edger. It is simple to cut right along the edge of straight pavers or blocks. I also need to edge along stone blocks forming a flower bed border. That was a bit more difficult because the wheel had to roll on uneven ground where it sometimes hung up. When cutting an edge for the first time, sometimes the electric power head overheated and had to cool off. But re-cutting an existing border was much easier. I'd recommend this for the hassle-free use and value when combined with other interchangeable tools. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by brooklynbob works great and very easy to switch from trimmer to edger, very happy i bought it my yard looks just as goood as my neighbors and he pays $80 a month for lawn service, i'd rather do my own. i went and bought the blower that works with the 40 volt so after done mowing trimming n edging just pop the battery on the blower i just bought the 59 dollar one and thats sufficient enough. my neighbors started calling me Mr. Ryobi, they should come and I'd do a tv commercial for them. great job ryobi July 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT purchase this item as an EDGER!!! Spent 3 hours working on 3 square sections of sidewalk and still looked terrible. I returned the trimmer and edger attachment the next day. ***DO NOT PURCHASE THIS AS AN EDGER, you will regret it!!!! I picked up the Black and Decker corded edger the next morning, and did my entire corner lot/sidewalk(30 squares?) in about the same amount of time I spent on 3 squares. August 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ok, but not for heavy edging Good product, works, but if using it for edging grass first time in years, it stopped many times. Grass and dirt gets stuck in under the cover and stops the blade. This drained the battery in 5-8 minutes. This is not a strong edger (not comparable to gas). But for light work, or maintaining existing edge its ok. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase Does a Great Job. So simple to interchange with my weed eater. Battery operation marvelous. Better and less trouble than my big gas powered edger. LOVE IT!! July 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unfortunately disapppointed -- returned it I purchased the weed wacker and was excited to try the edger. What should have been a 15-minute job took an hour. The cut was uneven, it couldn't cut through the grass, keeping it in line was impossible. My neighbor saw me struggling with it and offered me his electric one to borrow. I zipped through the edging in 5 minutes. I had to return this it was so bad. Was hoping it would work. July 16, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best edger, but can do a nice job with patience. The attachment is not easy to use, but with a bit of practice it does a fairly nice job. It would be much easier to use if it had a wheel at the front of the device instead of just the one wheel in the rear. Does it work? Yes, but it isn't the best edger I've ever used. July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor performance Not worth the money. Doesn't do the job. Don't waste your cash. July 12, 2016
