If you "need" a forstner bit then i suggest you go to rockler or woodcraft and get some good ones. Read Less

Answer:
Probably, but a drill press will be required for the kind of control you usually want when using Forstner bits (i.e. a flat bottomed hole, multiple holes the same depth, etc.).

The bits range depending on diameter. The 1 3/8" bit has a max RPM of 800 while the smaller bits range from 1000-1200.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bought them awhile back, used them on some projects, made very well and making holes now are a breeze. Yes I would recommend them, and already have. Good job Ryobi October 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bad bits dull, pitted, terrible bits. They tore rather than cut. could barely get through pine. October 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just lucky, I guess... I purchased this set of bits in store over the summer in order to sink a 3/4" magnet into a door jamb for a door entry sensor for my security system. I was happy with the performance of the 3/4" bit from this set and have since used the 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" bits for other projects around the house. I have found the bits to be useful and they have cut very well with no burn or tear out using them with both a hand drill and my drill press. I've used them on both soft and hard woods (I have recently used the 3/4" bit on red oak) with much the same results. After having read many reviews that have detailed the poor quality of the machining on these bits which have also included photos of chipped and dinged bits that are improperly honed (seemingly more poor reviews than good reviews), I have come to the conclusion that these bits seem to be very hit or miss in terms of initial quality. While I can't speak to the durability of these bits, I've been very happy with them thus far and plan to continue using them. Therefore, I believe the best advice regarding this product to be: buy in store and inspect each of the bits closely before purchase. If you can find a well produced set, they will be an enormous value. October 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Quality I needed to countersink some lag bolts and 3/4" washers, so I stopped by Home Depot and grabbed this set off the shelf. It seemed like a great deal - the whole 8 piece set was only twice the cost of a single bit from the competitor's brand. However, when I took a closer look at the cutting edges of the bits and realized they were completely mangled looking (see picture). It looks like they were sharpened by a caveman wielding a stone hammer. It doesn't appear to be a one-time quality control issue either - every single one of these bits were gouged and mangled the same way. These bits will never be able to provide a smooth cut without some serious work being done to sharpen them correctly. April 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! My son and I bought this set to work on a project and it worked perfectly. We have already built two planter boxes using this item. September 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi Forstner Bits This is a good product. The only problem I have is the flat part of the bits have small knicks on them. The product makes the cut I need for pen turning. July 9, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Had to return. Had to return this product because it would stop counting down at 1 hr. Will have to see if the next one ordered has the same problem. Home Depot very nice and accommodating in the return process. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great bang for the buck very well constructed, box is nice too organize. they cut pretty well but not as nice as the more expensive bits, but for casual use and jobs here and there they are great. June 28, 2016
