So far so good. Purchased this battery to use as an additional battery while I edge around my lawn. I purchased one of the trimmer combo and that was nice. However, the battery charge of the original product was not enough to edge the entire lawn. So, I purchased an additional battery so I can do my entire lawn at one time. Now the key is to see how long it lasts over time. The original battery, which is similar, is still holding charge pretty much as the first time used. I'm sure there has been some degradation. However, I have not noticed the difference. Expensive, but productive.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ray A good additional battery for two 24 volt tools
Ryobi recently discontinued it 24 volt cordless garden tool line, and this battery (OP242) was purchased as an extra, exactly matching the size (56 Wh capacity) that came with my spin trimmer. The smaller capacity Ryobi battery that came with some runs of Ryobi tools got very poor reviews on many websites and has been confused with this model, with which I've had no problem for the past two years now. Like all lithium batteries, I think that it is overpriced.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FixItMyself Battery Dead? Try this fix
Like everyone else, my battery went dead. Left it off the charger in the winter for a month. Plugged it in and charger indicated battery was defective. So, I took the battery apart - there was no way I was going to spend $119 for a battery.
Using a voltmeter, I noticed that the T2 terminal and positive terminal registered small voltage when tested. However, when testing the negative and positive terminals there was no voltage. When I tested the negative wire before it entered the circuit board and positive terminal it registered voltage. My solution was to splice in a wire from the wire going into the center of the circuit board to the wire coming out of the circuit board (circumventing the circuit board). Put the battery back together, plugged it in the charger and it indicated testing for a few minute; then it turned green and started charging. Battery works fine now. I uploaded an simple diagram of my fix. The blue line is the wire I spliced in.
As a previous poster indicated, you must keep this battery on the charger. I think what happens as the previous poster indicated, is that the internal circuit board draws a little bit of power constantly. When the power in the battery gets too low (dead), the charger registered it as "defective." Is it a design flaw with the circuit board? Probably. From my understanding, lithium ion batteries have no memory and can be charged many thousands of times without a problem.
Hope this helps someone!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Eli Folks Battery has a 3 yr warranty!
Simple keep your receipt. Call 1-800-HomeDepot, they will refer you to a local tool repair shop. Take battery & charger in & viola! Walk out with new battery or charger. On top of that the edger trimmer combo comes with a 2 yr warraty & for $10 I opted to purchase a 2 yr Home Depot replacement plan. Yes keep battery in charger during winter if you have 2 batteries alternate then monthly. Mine is workin like a charm. I was told that RYOBI was discontinuing their 24volt tools. So I opted to call Home Depot which in turn they transfered the call to RYOBI customer service. Folks keep your receipts & since they dont use ink on their receipts make a copy & fold in the receipt.

I could not find the 24 volt battery in any local stores; had to order on line. The price was very high and I probably could have bought the 18 volt with a new trimmer for about the same money. I really like the performance of the 24 volt powered trimmer.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by hollyberry Good battery- but product information needs improvement
Battery was needed to replace the original one that came with the product. Nothing on-line could be found that matched the edger and trimmer battery number. I went to a Home Depot for help and the employee went on-line, and encountered the same problem. He told me to go ahead and order it and bring it to a store for a refund if it didn't work. Before placing the order, I looked into the question and answers and found that it fit all models, though nothing in the product description said that. Luckily the battery worked just fine. The sad part is that I could have bought a complete replacement for $20 more than the purchase price of the battery because of a special promotion at the time. The battery is one that requires attention over the winter when not in use.
