Customer Questions & Answers

will a black & Decker 18v slide in battery work with this

Asked by: 456654
Thank you for asking, 456654. This 18 volt chain saw will only accept Ryobi 18 volt batteries. Please do not attempt to use a different manufacturer's battery with this unit. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

Is the saw powerful enough to cut through 6x6 post?

I need a light saw to top 6x6 posts will it cut through that?
Asked by: Jeff
Yes it is! I use mine regularly for this exact purpose when placing deck posts. I won't touch a saws-all for post cutting after having used this saw!

ONE+ 10 in. 18-Volt Cordless Chainsaw - Battery and Charger Not Included is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 286.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Chainsaw Saved Our Car!! My wife bought me a Ryobi set for my birthday a few years back and it came with this small chainsaw for light duty tree trimming. However, this year a tree fell on top of our car and trapped it. This little guy is a POWERHOUSE!! I was able to trim away every branch and free our car. THANK YOU RYOBI. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low expectations, but high reward! I grabbed this as an impulse buy at The Home Depot one day because I needed something to do quick maintenance on one of my business properties. We have a walking trail through the woods that seems to constantly overgrow and have falling limbs. I figured it was worth the trouble to see if it would work at all for our needs, and if I didn't like it I could take it back. When I first used it I wasn't that impressed. The saw was jumping around and didn't seem to cut into the branches very well. It turns out that it was my fault and I wasn't using it right. The blade moves slower than a gas powered chain saw, so you have to let the front of the saw press against the piece being cut. Once you get that down, this saw will chew through just about anything! I've trimmed up trees with no problem, and even cut down a tree that was about 9 inches in diameter. I use it to trim off the top of 6x6 posts when building decks and boardwalks too, and it chews through pressure treated lumber like its nothing. It isn't going to replace my gas powered saw for big jobs, but I've reached for this saw 9 times out of 10 in the last 2 years that I've had it. I plan on buying another one soon to keep handy around the house. I'd recommend the 4ah batteries for this saw, but it will work just fine for small jobs using the smaller batteries too. The very best thing is not having to buy a small can of gas and mix the gas and oil. The mess of a regular chainsaw is a pain, and this little saw makes things easy and tidy. Awesome tool! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for those of us without the stamina and build of a lumberjack This 64yr old homesteader has found the Ryobi One+ chain saw the perfect compliment to previous purchases of the pole saw and string trimmer; the batteries fit all tools and charge up fast. The saw with batteries is lightweight to use and gets through the work in about as much time as it takes for me to get tired. The larger battery lets you know when it's due for charge so you aren't stuck with a tree limb half-cut. All combined, I've managed to keep orchard and fields in good shape; my young neighbor likes the pears and apples. These tools allow me the freedom and independence to keep the trees trimmed and I have on hand plenty of small firewood for winter; also helps me keep up with foraging goats to clear and improve pasture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will Surprise You Born and raised on a farm. Growing up My Dad and I cut and split 7+ cords of wood each year for heat in the winter. I have used a vast array of power tools thru the years. Needed something for just trimming small branches and already had Ryobi brand 18v lithium tools so I bought this since I had batteries and charger. Let me tell you, for cutting branches and even small trees, it is no problem for this at all. I was quite suprised that it performed as well as it did. It's clean, very quiet and very easy to use. Because of it's lower speed, the chain stays sharp a very long time. I have pushed it beyond it's advertised capabilities and am impressed. Just use common sense and you will be happy you bought it. Truly a great tool to have around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take it for what it is This is a great saw for what it is. Yes, the chain speed is slow and tends to bounce on hard wood until it gets in. You need to keep in mind that this is a 10" 18 volt saw. The battery life is amazing with the big lithium. I have been using and abusing it now for several days non stop and couldn't be happier. Make no mistake, for trimming and such it is a home run. I have seen complaints about the safety switch. Yes it is a pain so I took the saw apart to see how it worked. There is a little tab that needs to be removed inside to render the safety useless. I am not suggesting you do so, but it sure made it a lot easier! The chain oiler is in my opinion not so good. I have had the hole blocked with dust, dirt and chips to keep oil from coming out. All and all, a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for smaller yard work, doesn't cut it as a "real" chainsaw. This is a really handy tool to have around the yard for smaller cleanup, pruning etc. I've used it to lop down trees about 20' tall, and maybe 7 or 8" across (probably pushing the limits of what it's good for), and down to taking smaller branches of trees and breaking them down for disposal. It's not a fast cutter, and takes some time to get through anything thicker, but it's better than using a handsaw. Depending on what batteries you have, it can also be frustrating how quickly it runs out. I have some of the older NiCad batteries, and really only get about 4 cuts through something about 7" across before a battery is dead. Hopefully the newer Lithium batteries last a lot longer than that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Saw, if you use it within it's limits Bought this saw last year after Hurricaine Irene. We lost several moderate sized branches from some of the trees in the backyard. Could not get a hold of anyone to come and clean up the back yard, and they were quoting over $500.00 for the job. Bought this saw, and managed to cut down all the broken and fallen branches, and cut them into logs of about 18 inches in length over a period of 3 days. The largest diameter log that I cut was 7½ inches. I have some other Ryobi tools, and so have about ½ dozen batteries. I would charge up the batteries and just go to work. No need to lug a long extension cord, no gas, oil, mixing, starting, etc. No noise, except when cutting, and even then, not to bad. It is slow, so you have to go slow, and be patient. It is not too heavy, so easy to handle. The large capacity battery would last from 30 to 40 minutes of almost continuous use, so not bad at all. The chain oiling system does not seem to put enough oil on the chain unless you push the bulb on top, and it does tend to leak after use, so put something down under the saw when you store it away that will collect or soak up the oil. Overall, I am very pleased with the price / performance ratio, and it was just what I needed. Just don't expect to take down whole trees!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adequate for light work Saw is slower than a gasoline, saw, but for me, the convenience and portability more than off set the speed. Had limbs came off my pecan trees because of a recent Oklahoma ice storm. Limbs were up to 12 inches by 7 inches and was able to successfully cut them into fireplace lengths.
