I grabbed this as an impulse buy at The Home Depot one day because I needed something to do quick maintenance on one of my business properties. We have a walking trail through the woods that seems to constantly overgrow and have falling limbs. I figured it was worth the trouble to see if it would work at all for our needs, and if I didn't like it I could take it back. When I first used it I wasn't that impressed. The saw was jumping around and didn't seem to cut into the branches very well. It turns out that it was my fault and I wasn't using it right. The blade moves slower than a gas powered chain saw, so you have to let the front of the saw press against the piece being cut. Once you get that down, this saw will chew through just about anything! I've trimmed up trees with no problem, and even cut down a tree that was about 9 inches in diameter. I use it to trim off the top of 6x6 posts when building decks and boardwalks too, and it chews through pressure treated lumber like its nothing. It isn't going to replace my gas powered saw for big jobs, but I've reached for this saw 9 times out of 10 in the last 2 years that I've had it. I plan on buying another one soon to keep handy around the house. I'd recommend the 4ah batteries for this saw, but it will work just fine for small jobs using the smaller batteries too. The very best thing is not having to buy a small can of gas and mix the gas and oil. The mess of a regular chainsaw is a pain, and this little saw makes things easy and tidy. Awesome tool! I can't really use heavy, gas powered chain saws anymore (my late father was the original Tim Taylor, so I never had light duty tools for most jobs). I bought this to help me clean up my yard and it's been fantastic. Not once have I had to change out a battery (I went out and bought a pair of the larger 18V--which I recommend, especially if you're going to purchase more tools in the One line). The only reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it does bounce quite a bit more than its more powerful counterparts before it bites (at least I found it did, but not much) and it doesn't always leave a clean cut, even on jobs it's designed to handle.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beau Great for smaller yard work, doesn't cut it as a "real" chainsaw.
This is a really handy tool to have around the yard for smaller cleanup, pruning etc. I've used it to lop down trees about 20' tall, and maybe 7 or 8" across (probably pushing the limits of what it's good for), and down to taking smaller branches of trees and breaking them down for disposal.
It's not a fast cutter, and takes some time to get through anything thicker, but it's better than using a handsaw. Depending on what batteries you have, it can also be frustrating how quickly it runs out. I have some of the older NiCad batteries, and really only get about 4 cuts through something about 7" across before a battery is dead. Hopefully the newer Lithium batteries last a lot longer than that.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Russ Better than expected!
This little saw is better than expected! While using it the key is that slow and steady wins the race. Place the front edge of the saw body against the item to be cut and let the blade cut through while slowly rocking the saw bar into the piece. IT will make quick work of even larger trees. If you try to hold the saw and put the middle of the bar into the piece being cut it won't work. The saw has to be supported against the item to cut! While I bought this to do quick cleanup jobs on fallen branches and the like, I found a realy great use for it. When setting posts for decks or anything else, the saw works wonders for cutting down posts to the desired height after concrete is set. Quit trying to cut a post to length and then concreting it in. Set the whole post then cut it down to size. And with the convenience of not needing gas, having no fumes, and being much easier to use and clean than a gas powered model, it is a no brainer to pick one of these up!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Karron Something I have been waiting for.
I saw this chain saw on-line at Home Depot but never at the store. Since I have many of the Ryobi tools I felt it was worth a try. The convenience of having a chain saw without a cord and the ease of starting with the push of a button was too good to pass up. The saw is light weight, has good balance and is easy to use. However it lacks power. I can probably do just as well using my reciprocating saw with the proper blade. The ten inch blade will only be adequate for a four inch cut. I keep the tool for odd jobs or small projects. Anything more I’ll pull out my electric or gas powered chain saws.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jolio55 Perfect for those of us without the stamina and build of a lumberjack
This 64yr old homesteader has found the Ryobi One+ chain saw the perfect compliment to previous purchases of the pole saw and string trimmer; the batteries fit all tools and charge up fast. The saw with batteries is lightweight to use and gets through the work in about as much time as it takes for me to get tired. The larger battery lets you know when it's due for charge so you aren't stuck with a tree limb half-cut. All combined, I've managed to keep orchard and fields in good shape; my young neighbor likes the pears and apples. These tools allow me the freedom and independence to keep the trees trimmed and I have on hand plenty of small firewood for winter; also helps me keep up with foraging goats to clear and improve pasture.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nick Great little chain saw - Good purchase - Lightweight - Quiet - Easy to use
Great little chain saw for what it is, It's perfect for my needs. I am an avid mountain biker, I use this saw when there is a tree down on the trials. It's compact, lightweight and easy to use and easily fits in my backpack. I carry 3 batteries and have never run out of juice. I have cleared trees larger than 10". Only drawback I can see is HomeDepot doesn't sell it in Canada. Had to pick mine up from Buffalo.
