Bought this for light yard work as it was supposed to be used for but battery would die after only about 10 minutes! Took all day because i had to cycle between batteries and then wait to charge. Had it kept in my garage in the box and went to take it out only to find that ALL THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT INTO THE BOX!! Hopefully im able to return it for a full credit. Will probably never buy a Ryobi product again because of this...

Bought this saw to use on some local mountain bike trails and has so far been great. Fits in my back pack and works with my ryobi one+ drill batteries. Cleared trees from an entire trail system in one afternoon on 3 batteries. Cant wait to get to work on the next trail.

See Attached photo. That was a 20 year old 40 Ft oak tree. Mission accomplished. Now I did end up buying a gas chainsaw to finish cutting up the wood. I needed 6 inch sections in order to split and use in the smoker. Lets be honest though, I had already exceeded the practical expectations of this device. She's a beast, but dangit if it doesn't leak oil CONSTANTLY. Before you put it away wrap it in a grocery bag or something. The thing leaks like a Harley. Still, impressed it could do so much with the same battery I power my drill with.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mriley007 Excellent for small jobs
Bought this for small lawn projects, Works great, quiet, cuts very well.
Pictures say a thousand words. Very Happy with results. Not a heavy duty chain saw but works great for this type of cutting

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doug A great addition to my outdoor power tool set
I've been using this saw for a week now on a big project and I'm impressed with its performance. I own several gas chainsaws but needed something that was light weight to cut branches from over 20 Douglas fur pine trees we recently cut down. I decided on the Ryobi because I own several other Ryobi tools and have been pleased with Ryobi tool performance.
Although the chain speed is slow compared to a gas saw, it does a good job cutting up to about 6 inches in diameter. The only difficulty is with branches that are dead and rock hard. On these the saw bounces until it gets a cut going then smooths down to a nice cut. This is especially evident when the battery is low and chain speed is down, but it still cuts well. I use both my year old Ni-cads and the supplied lithium battery.
It's easy to use and I've not had a problem with the chain or oiler. So far I've cut somewhere between 80 - 100 branches of various size from tiny to 5-6 inches.
I'm happy with the purchase. It has become a part of my outdoor equipment tool collection and really does serve well as a limb cutter when you just don't want to fire up and wield a heavy chain saw to cut branches.
I really didn't need the battery charger that comes with it, but the additional lithium battery is welcome as I can use it on my other Ryobi tools.
I'm including a photo. All of the tree branches in the foreground have been cut with this saw over a period of several days. It easily cuts branches that are too big in diameter for my 4 inch max wood chipper (see pile of larger branches at the left of the path).
The saw can be seen near the wheelbarrow on the path.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ODPILOT Battery missing from box, Ryobi customer "service" no help at all
I purchased this because the idea of a cordless chain saw was attractive and convenient to use. Never got to use it cause Ryobi, the manufacturer, forgot to put a battery in the box. There's a toll free number to call if parts are missing, so I called the number and the rep told me that they could not send me a battery and that I had to take it back to wear I purchased it - to exchange it for another unit that has a battery in the box. (real good customer service Ryobi - NOT !!) Took it back to Home Depot -but I had purchased the last one and they had no others. So I had to return it for refund. Ryobi lost a sale, got bad internet review - terrible. Will never to buy anything from Ryobi.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DiabloRojo This little thing works!
Obviously not comparable to gas powered saws and not as fast as plug in electric chainsaws, it is useful in a great many situations.I've owned this for years. I have used it to cut a dead 13 inch diameter apple tree down to nearly ground level when I didn't have my gas saws on hand. It took some time, but it worked, and worked well. Contrary to some other reviews, it IS faster than the reciprocating saw with a pruning blade and it is CERTAINLY faster than a bow saw. Yes, the oil runs out when it's sitting, just like almost ALL chainsaws on the planet. Store it upside down or drain the oil before storing. If you're thinking about this, just get one. You'll be happy you did.

This chain saw does not have the power of a gas chainsaw. It also does not have the weight. It is very easy to use and useful for trimming branches. This is a very good tool for a homeowner with a few trees that need trimming. I did go back to the store and bought extra batteries, but for the work it does, the battery life is acceptable.
