Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pictures are the best evidence. See Attached photo. That was a 20 year old 40 Ft oak tree. Mission accomplished. Now I did end up buying a gas chainsaw to finish cutting up the wood. I needed 6 inch sections in order to split and use in the smoker. Lets be honest though, I had already exceeded the practical expectations of this device. She's a beast, but dangit if it doesn't leak oil CONSTANTLY. Before you put it away wrap it in a grocery bag or something. The thing leaks like a Harley. Still, impressed it could do so much with the same battery I power my drill with. April 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great addition to my outdoor power tool set I've been using this saw for a week now on a big project and I'm impressed with its performance. I own several gas chainsaws but needed something that was light weight to cut branches from over 20 Douglas fur pine trees we recently cut down. I decided on the Ryobi because I own several other Ryobi tools and have been pleased with Ryobi tool performance. Although the chain speed is slow compared to a gas saw, it does a good job cutting up to about 6 inches in diameter. The only difficulty is with branches that are dead and rock hard. On these the saw bounces until it gets a cut going then smooths down to a nice cut. This is especially evident when the battery is low and chain speed is down, but it still cuts well. I use both my year old Ni-cads and the supplied lithium battery. It's easy to use and I've not had a problem with the chain or oiler. So far I've cut somewhere between 80 - 100 branches of various size from tiny to 5-6 inches. I'm happy with the purchase. It has become a part of my outdoor equipment tool collection and really does serve well as a limb cutter when you just don't want to fire up and wield a heavy chain saw to cut branches. I really didn't need the battery charger that comes with it, but the additional lithium battery is welcome as I can use it on my other Ryobi tools. I'm including a photo. All of the tree branches in the foreground have been cut with this saw over a period of several days. It easily cuts branches that are too big in diameter for my 4 inch max wood chipper (see pile of larger branches at the left of the path). The saw can be seen near the wheelbarrow on the path. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent for small jobs Bought this for small lawn projects, Works great, quiet, cuts very well. Pictures say a thousand words. Very Happy with results. Not a heavy duty chain saw but works great for this type of cutting August 22, 2011
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lacking Power to do any real work....... No power. Could use a second battery in series like the Makita DC electric chainsaw. Three batteries would be great. Now you would have a saw I could use and I can keep my 18v battery platform with Ryobi !!! The chain moves way to slow as an 18v unit. Overall quality seems good and easy to use if it could cut. I can use a hand saw faster. It may be good for a senior or child to do some work in the yard- very, very slowly. Otherwise, buy a Echo CS310 for $80 more ($199 total) and do a lot of work fast and easy. If you have never used a chainsaw before or you need to cut a couple of branches a year, you might be able to live with this saw. I think the 18v reciprocating saw with the correct wood cutting blade would be better in almost every situation. I have used the reciprocating saw camping and hunting and is much more up to the task than this 18v chainsaw. I really wanted to like this saw and purchased it to have my wife and daughter help me cut up some branches to put in the burn pile. Not gonna work......How did this saw ever make it out of the development lab ??? March 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by exceeded expectations I went back and forth about buying this or a gas powered chainsaw. I bought this and was extremely close to bringing this back until my "brilliance" kicked in and I realized that the assemblers put the chain on backwards. Once I had the chain on going the correct direction, this was an incredible buy! The battery lasted well over an hour cutting a 7"-8" tree to pieces -even though the instructions say no more than 5". The only thing I would recommend is buying a quart of bar and chain oil because the oil included in the box will not last long. Highly recommend this saw! Don't believe the naysayers! However, don't go buy this chainsaw thinking that this is equal to gas powered. If your career is not in tree work, this is a great investment! July 4, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible chain saw No power. Battery not big enough. Overpriced. Junk. May 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by convenient and tough This winter I've been clearing Chinese Privet from 3 acres of woodland and have found this saw to be a big help. I'm able to cut and clear easily with a battery saw, rather than a gas model that I would have to continually pull-start. I use lopping shears for plants less than an inch, then use the Ryobi for bigger cuts. I usually work for 2-3 hours before running out of battery, but we have other Ryobi products with batteries I can use if I still have energy myself. The small Lithium-Ion battery that comes with the saw last much longer than the old Ni-Cad batteries. I like the size because my hands reach easily around the battery to pull it out. The size and weight make this saw perfect for a woman, however a firm grip is needed for the occasional grabbing, and it is a little bouncy on smaller Privet trees, but that could be expected. It is so quiet, I don't think my neighbors know I'm in the woods when I'm working. It's tough also. No trouble with the chain coming off or anything. I'm very pleased with my saw. February 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Handy Chainsaw Love this chainsaw. Very handy, not as powerful as a gas chainsaw, however it's great for tight places and really easy for ANYONE to use. I think the larger One+ batteries last longer and give better power than the thinner ones (although a little harder to wrap your hand around to grip the clips to pull out of the saw). Would like to see an oil gauge of some sort to see how much is in there (unless I'm missing it). Otherwise, no complaints. With recent storms, it has saved a ton of time where the pruning saw just takes too long. November 9, 2012
