Customer Questions & Answers

Adjustable for detailing?

Has any used (or does anyone know) if this router can be used for detailing? Maybe to cut grooves into wood or ideally rout out lettering on a face plate? Not sure if it can be adjusted short enough. Just curious. . . Thanks!
Asked by: Brian
Hi Brian. The trim router should be great for detailing. Hope this helps!

Router Question?

What is the thickest piece of wood can this cut?
Asked by: Jerry
This is a great little tool, but remember that this is a battery-powered router. You may get the maximum depth on soft pine but hard woods can force the motor to labor, and affect the quality of your edges. If you typically work with hard woods, you will need to do some practice runs on scraps of wood. You will also want to be more conscious of the quality of your bits with a battery-powered router.

Is there a newer model available?

I saw a video on YouTube from Ryobi that showed this as a green router. The same color as all the new tools. The model that HD is the old blue model. Is the newer model different and when will it be available?
Asked by: Chuck
No, but opt for the lithium batteries.

What edge guide will work with the Ryobi p600 cordless router/laminate trimmer? Also, do you need the woodworking base to use the edge guide?

Asked by: Vanman
There's an edge guide available as a separate purchase. Home Depot carries this guide, I believe. On the packaging, it will list the model numbers it can be used for. I don't believe you'll need the other base, which I've never seen. My edge guide snaps in place, but I've used it only once because I have bits with the guide wheel that I mostly use.

ONE+ 18-Volt 1/4 in. Cordless Trim Router (Tool Only) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for door hinges I picked up this little guy about 5 years ago to speed up door hinge preparation. I figured it would be quicker than using a chisel, but I had very low expectations. Was I ever wrong. I, and several co workers have routed hundreds of door hinges, and several laminate garden window sills over the last 5 years with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I even used a plunge bit to router out a piece of 3/4 inch plywood for the battery tray on my pontoon boat. My advice to anyone considering it is this....be patient and take your time, use the lithium batteries, and spend the money on quality bits. I personally use Diablo and have had no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "One+" of the best Ryobi tools they make! Great trimmer... AWESOME router if you add base/handles. This trimmer is compatible with the base & handles sold as replacement parts for the plug-in trimmer. You can find them on power tool parts stores... depending on shipping you can get the base plus two handles for under $30. Once you add them it is a fantastic portable router and (in my view) much more capable/usable than without the modification. Photo added of my modified trimmer. Only minor negative is the switch...a bit unwieldy to turn on/off when using as router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 'little tool' I use this tool almost daily, my last one was six years old, brushes and bearing worn out, still screaming, using to cut out for hinges and door latches, I was really disappointed it wasn't available when I wanted it, I talked to Ryobi rep and Pro desk to help, tried to drop an email to Ryobi, no luck, but luck changed, it came available, and I ordered two, just in case it happened again. I would be lost with out this tool, I have electric router but I became spoiled by this little tool doing the big jobs from trim, laminate, and doors. The best little tool I ever found, thanks again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mini-Router I bought this tool for some light routing on oak. I was concerned about it having enough power to cut oak, but it performed very well and produced nice results. I used three of the Ryobi bits from the $40 small set, and they all performed very well. I did encounter one issue, and anyone attempting this needs to be aware of this. To install the optional sub-base with handles, you have to remove the smaller square sub-base that comes on this tool. The screws that hold it on, are very tight, and appear to be installed with thread locker. I stripped out the head of one of the screws and could not remove it. I re-installed the three screws removed, and can only use this small base as is. To use the larger base I have ordered a second complete base and collar assembly to install the larger base on. I hope I will be able to remove the four screws on the new base assembly. These screws should not be installed with Loctite, if you need to remove them to change bases. Other than this issue, the tool performed very well for my use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power of a plug-in Purchased one about 5 yrs. ago and still going strong. Even better now with the lithium batteries. I made all the baseboards for my home using it, and while doing so, a professional home builder watched me use it, and was amazed at how it powered through 1/2 in. yellow pine. Easy to use and guide when using roller bearing tipped bits. Just clamp down the material to be routed, and have at it! Purchased a second unit so that if the first one dies, I'll have a back-up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect little router This is my second one. The first one lasted ten years with almost daily use, so I cannot complain about the life span at all. What other tool can you buy for around $50 that will last ten solid years? Has plenty of power with a fully charged battery, bits are easy to change, and it fits my hand perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Ryobi Product First time using this type of router to trim laminate while redoing my kitchen countertops. Easy to use, long battery life with my lithium ryobi battery, and great results. Smaller size let me get very close to the walls since I was relaminating the counters in place and only had small areas to trim by hand. Bought a 3 piece laminate bit set that made the edges look professional. On/off switch could have better placement, but not a big deal. Height adjustment base opening directs debris where you want. Would be nice not to remove base to remove bits, though. As with all power tools, wear hearing and eye protection and a mask.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well for battery powered tool It was very easy to add decorative trim cut to a piece of furniture I am building. Only drawback is that large router bits, 1 1/2" or bigger, will not fit with the alignment collar on.
