A standard AC powered compound, sliding mitre saw would be your best choice. Makita and Bosch received the highest ratings in a recent Fine Homebuilding review, and run between $450 and $650, depending on the size of the blade. 10" should be fine for the work you are doing. The sliding feature is great for 2 x 6s and wider pieces of lumber.

I hope this is helpful.

I need to use a small miter saw in a location without making a ton of noise. I know the plug in saw's are loud and most cordless tools are much quieter. How loud is this saw and would it work for my application?

Answer:
Hi Boathouse. The cordless units are significantly more quiet then the corded models, however, we do not have a rating that we can provide unfortunately.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Was worth it. Bought my first Ryobi mitre saw about 12 years ago and it finally gave out on me. It was super handy and portable. Loved not having to have cords. For the price, compared to other mitre saws, I was pleased. 100 dollars for the tool was worth the savings; I am not a carpenter and don't depend on it for my livelihood. If I had been a carpenter and needed it on a daily basis, I would have bought the 400 dollar Dewalt which has the locking handle to lock it in place when making angle cuts. The cons of the Ryobi was only the handle part, you have to grab the top and jimmy it back and forth to get the right angle. The only downfall was that, but sheeesh, the price, the price, the price. Not having a locking angle guide to secure the cuts was bothersome at times when I could not get it to sit in the proper indentation, detente, whatever they call it. But the price for me, the non carpenter, convinced me this small hassle wasn't worth an extra 300 dollars for the Dewalt. Bought a new one August 6, 2016. August 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi ONE+ 18-Volt 7-1/4 in. Cordless Miter Saw Kit meets my expectations; all my Ryobi products do; especially like the dependable, interchangeable batteries July 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hard to adjust to set miter degrees Bought my first one, set it up, n checking everhthing was cutting true. Saw would die half way through each cut, I would have to pull the battery off n put it back on to finish the cut. Returned that one n got another, the new one didn't have the problem the first one had but quickly reliezed that adjust to make different miter degree cuts was a super big pain, there no adjust handle so h have to grab the top part of the saw to manually adjust it n there's no finesse to getting to the exact degree u want, a lot of back n forth before ur able to get it to the degree u want. Great price for a cordless miter saw, but not worth it. They need to go back to the drawing board with this one n then they will have a killer product May 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good portabe Miter saw Good for what it is called, a miter saw. Great for molding and small lumber, well made and light weight. This is not a cut off saw and would have trouble with a 2x4. If they made a 40 volt version it would be a lot better. April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent purchase at great price I purchased this because my husband left his other on the basement floor and iit was ruined from the dampness. I picked Ryobi because he has all the other toys offered and loves them. He was extremly happy with the product and was impressed with the laser light. The price was excellent. I am recommending this based on his review of it which I heard several times. March 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Real Deal Ordered the 60 tooth blade with it and it does what is asked. It's my hobby saw and the cuts are fine and accurate. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great tools The best tool for me to finish the job easy to carry December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Addition to the work force The cordless miter saw is ideal for those small quick jobs were you do not need to lug that heavy duty miter saw. The One+ sets up in a second ready to go. and seems to run forever, it gets the job done. November 17, 2015
