I wanted to reseed a large (~6'x6') area of my lawn that succumbed to my dog's toxic waste. Researched several small cultivators and tillers before deciding on the Ryobi, based on cost, reviews, and that I have Ryobi One+ tools/batteries. The area was quite compacted as it was once grass covered (pictures 1 + 2). Spent the better part of an hour to complete turning/cultivating the entire area. The cultivator did a very good job at digging, turning, and loosening the soil (pictures 3 + 4). I'm quite pleased with the purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LUKE Great addition to my RYOBI 18 V TOOL COLLECTION
The RYOBI 18 V CULTIVATOR is my latest RYOBI addition to many other RYOBI tools I have purchased in the last year.. I have a RYOBI light, drill, hedge trimmer, blower, saw, and weed wicker.
As with the rest of my RYOBI tools I can use the interchangeable batteries with ease in my CULTIVATOR.
It is light weight and easy to use. I use it to prepare my seed beds, and till weeds close to my plants without destroying them. I am very happy with it as well as my other RYOBI tools. In fact I plan on buying another for my vacation home use.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mighty Not up to 1+ standards.
Bought this for a birthday gift. The first one that I received was defective. The plastic cover was misformed and had the washer hanging out with direct access for the dirt to get into the motor. Had to reorder and then it was late getting to me in time for the birthday. Also had to take the defective one back to the store instead of just sending it back. The product is about half as easy to use as the Black and Decker model. I bought this because I have all 1+tools. The battery life holds well but the unit pulls so hard to the left that my wife could not use it. The handle cannot be tighten up enough that it does not turn in your hand. Usually happy with 1+ but this tool needs to be redesigned.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bert Works surprisingly well. Great for small flowerbeds.
First off, this is not a garden tiller, and don't expect it to be as effective as a larger gas powered cultivator. However, it is perfect for large flower pots, small flowerbeds, raised gardens, and that kind of thing, when you don't want to mess will pulling out the big gas cultivator. It is a quick and convenient grab it and go way to churn up a small space for planting, and works even better than I expected. My wife has no problem using it by herself, when she would never touch the gas cultivator. it is perfect for her. It's great to grab when you want to put down a couple of bulbs, or plant just a small space. If you use it for what it is designed for, it is great. It fills the gap between something you would hand till, and something large enough to be worth the effort to pull out and gas up the big tiller. Perfect for planting something small when you need to get it done quickly.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sichuan Poor Engineering
I have many Ryobi tools, both AC and cordless. I have never had a problem with any of them, with the exception of this cultivator. The motor has a tremendous amount of torque, which puts a lot of stress on the motor housing where it attaches to the pole with two small, inadequate fasteners. The housing at the pole broke apart, due to the inadequate fastening. It's simply poor engineering; nothing more and nothing less. I returned it and ordered another one. I will put two or three worm clamps on the housing at the pole on the new one I should receive in a few days.

It would not break up the clay like soil I have but it is great for weeding and aerating the soil between plants in my garden and flower beds.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by mrjoe Great and handy tool
I have a lot of the One+ series of Ryobi cordless tools, but most are for woodworking mainly so I don't have to manage or avoid a cord while on a ladder, so there are plenty of chargers and batteries. Needed a small cultivator for close small areas like around bushes and trees, or in a flowerbed. This does the job excellently, easy and effective to use, depth and width of worked area is easy to control, and does surprisingly well even in pockets of hard soil. Much easier than dragging out the full sized cultivator or doing with a hoe. Good for mixing into soil beds or loosening weeds for easy pick up. The tine attaching pins could be a little better designed, but once installed they are not messed with again, so that may be a wash.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gottaride Ryobi cordless cultivator
this tool works great for the raised vegie garden beds. I tilled up 3 4x10' beds plus a few other small garden areas and still had charge in the battery to trim a hedge with the hedge tool.
Long a gas power only guy these small battery tools are just fine for light work.
I would reccomend for most home gardeners .
