Answer:
The blades rotate back and forth. They don't spin around like a rototiller so they don't fling the soil.

Answer:
The blades ( tines ) oscillate back and forth. There is no spinning action. You will have some movement of soil but nothing will " fling " around.

Hi Marty, as long as your battery is a Ryobi one plus battery, it will work in this cultivator. You won't get as much run time and power with the older battery, however it will work as long as it's a one plus battery.

Hello Cherry Jello! The P2700A is ideal for small gardens, flower beds and landscaping projects. Two tines provide a 4 in. tilling depth, perfect for weeding and aerating. This unit cannot be used to remove roots and may unexpectedly bounce upward or jump forward if the tines should strike buried obstacles such as large stones, roots, or stumps. Hope this helps.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 55 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase! Assembly took very little help from another person. Cultivates garden areas that I was having trouble digging into & so much easier on the back! Also using it to keep weeds down in area with shrubs- can be used a little more shallow if needed. Love the line of Ryobibproducts using rechargeable battery. They're efficient, but lightweight & easy to use. June 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It failed quickly I bought this to cultivate close to garden plants after weeding and the reviews confirmed what I wanted to use it for. The first use for one battery charge was great. I did some other work in the garden and installed a fresh battery and it immediately started making a grinding noise and the motor smoked. It is going back to HD tomorrow. First one plus tool that hasn't worked great. I have had a string trimmer for years and it works great. My impact driver has driven over 4000 screws including the big FastenMaster lags and keeps coming back for more. June 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great cultivator As always, I am not disappointed with my Ryobi purchase. It is a great little cultivator that does a great job, is lite weight and easy on the back. The new batteries I purchased at the same time, lasted a good 50 minutes. You do have to be careful if you hit a root or stone, it will bounce and possibly take out something you weren't intending to. But, that is to be expected with any cultivator. June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cordless tool The Ryobi one+ cordless cultivator is an excellent tool for light cultivating around hard to reach plants and areas that are hard to get behind. It is also a great tool for mixing compost into the soil and light aeration to help water penetrate into the soil. Remember this tool is for light duty only and it is not a rototiller and should not be used in soil that is hard-pan or has a lot of roots. I have used it around my shrubs prior to putting down mulch and in my garden around my vegetable and flower plants to keep weeds down. The only drawback that I would have to say is that it may be to heavy for an older or frail person to use for any length of time. I find that if you let the tool rest completely on the ground and not try to hold it up during operation it will not put to much of a strain on your body. I'm 69 years old with an average build and do not have a problem using it as long as I let the cultivator do the work. Visit YouTube to see how it works. June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SMALL RYOBI CULTIVATOR VERY LITTLE ASSEMBLY REQUIRED, JUST PLUG IN THE BATTERY AND USE IT. LIGHTWEIGHT AND EASY TO HANDLE, DOES A GOOD JOB. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This works Great... Very Easy to Use. Lightweight for walking around to different parts of the yard to use. Works great in Flower beds that are smaller. Gets the ground worked up in a nice small area. June 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not so great Worked as described, but it is too bulky to be used by my wife so it was returned. Also not good if you have lots of roots just under the surface. It is not strong enough to cut the roots so it just stalls. Good for cultivating an existing flower bed. Not so sure for anything larger. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty nice tool Very simple assembly. The only problem is it's just not got enough oomph to do anything with hard ground. Using this puppy to weed the garden is probably where it excels, especially when the ground is loose, not hard packed. For the purpose I bought it, weeding the garden, it sure beats pulling them up by hand. If you're looking for something to till some hard ground, please do yourself a favor and get a decent quality gasoline powered tiller. May 17, 2016
