Actually the blades move back and forth at a medium speed and there's hardly any flinging of soil.

Answer:
The blades vibrate back and forth about 1/4 turn, they do not spin. Soil does not get tossed about unless you leave the just the tips inserted in very loose soil.

Answer:
The blades rotate back and forth. They don't spin around like a rototiller so they don't fling the soil.

The blades ( tines ) oscillate back and forth. There is no spinning action. You will have some movement of soil but nothing will " fling " around.

Hi Marty, as long as your battery is a Ryobi one plus battery, it will work in this cultivator. You won't get as much run time and power with the older battery, however it will work as long as it's a one plus battery.

Hello Cherry Jello! The P2700A is ideal for small gardens, flower beds and landscaping projects. Two tines provide a 4 in. tilling depth, perfect for weeding and aerating. This unit cannot be used to remove roots and may unexpectedly bounce upward or jump forward if the tines should strike buried obstacles such as large stones, roots, or stumps. Hope this helps.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 64 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Real timesaver. Worked Better Than Expected, bought this for my son-in-law who's spending a lot of time pulling weeds, now he has a lot more free time and his back has been saved!! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase! Assembly took very little help from another person. Cultivates garden areas that I was having trouble digging into & so much easier on the back! Also using it to keep weeds down in area with shrubs- can be used a little more shallow if needed. Love the line of Ryobibproducts using rechargeable battery. They're efficient, but lightweight & easy to use. June 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It failed quickly I bought this to cultivate close to garden plants after weeding and the reviews confirmed what I wanted to use it for. The first use for one battery charge was great. I did some other work in the garden and installed a fresh battery and it immediately started making a grinding noise and the motor smoked. It is going back to HD tomorrow. First one plus tool that hasn't worked great. I have had a string trimmer for years and it works great. My impact driver has driven over 4000 screws including the big FastenMaster lags and keeps coming back for more. June 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good handheld cultivator The cultivator was exactly as described, works very well for my intended purpose. The battery life is excellent and was able to complete my job without need to recharge. Worked very well in garden bed that was previously tilled. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Effective. But weird. Does what it's supposed to, but keeping ahold of it while it does is an adventure. Its mechanism of motion makes it seem to tug hard right, at least on mine. Also, if you're short you will find yourself at a disadvantage, even with the handle as short as it will go. Strongly recommend you make sure there are no rocks in anything you're cultivating because this thing bucks HARD if it hits a rock of any real size. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for looser soil This cultivator is excellent for the two uses I have for it -- weeding my raised bed garden (which has loose soil) and removing scattered grass plants from my soft sand beach. It is light, easy to use and does a great job of getting into smaller spaces without tearing up my vegetable plants. It does NOT replace a rota-tiller, but is perfect for the jobs that I needed it for and that a rota-tiller couldn't do. I have quite a few of the Ryobi One+ tools and this one was a welcome addition. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi cordless cultivator I bought this because of the diameter is small enough to get into small flower beds. Was very surprised at the power and how lightweight it is. Battery changing is easy. I absolutely love this cultivator! June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cordless tool The Ryobi one+ cordless cultivator is an excellent tool for light cultivating around hard to reach plants and areas that are hard to get behind. It is also a great tool for mixing compost into the soil and light aeration to help water penetrate into the soil. Remember this tool is for light duty only and it is not a rototiller and should not be used in soil that is hard-pan or has a lot of roots. I have used it around my shrubs prior to putting down mulch and in my garden around my vegetable and flower plants to keep weeds down. The only drawback that I would have to say is that it may be to heavy for an older or frail person to use for any length of time. I find that if you let the tool rest completely on the ground and not try to hold it up during operation it will not put to much of a strain on your body. I'm 69 years old with an average build and do not have a problem using it as long as I let the cultivator do the work. Visit YouTube to see how it works. June 22, 2016
