Bought the Ryobi one+ trimmer last week. It can use the battery or a cord. Can this tiller do the same?

This is not a tiller! It is a cultivator. No, you can not use a cord. However, it does not use up the battery very quickly, so you can do what you need to do without running out of power.

Answer:
It's made to work with a battery. The purpose of the battery is to not have to drag a cord around. We have the multiple battery charger and keep several charged so when one wears down we just snap a new one in and keep going.
I am not sure about the tiller but if it comes with a battery then it is meant to work with one and not a cord.

Unfortunately, no. I assumed it could but once I got it home, I didn't find a place to use a power cord (like the Ryobi weed whacker, which can use a cord).

Answer:
Its a fluffer only. Not enough power to break dirt. I mean it will, but it will take a long time for a decent size garden. Better to use a small rototiller.

Answer:
Yes, this cultivator does have enough power to break up dirt, but I would not recommend it for use as a tiller on a larger scale. My wife will use this cultivator to break up new dirt to transplant some flowers out in the yard. For a small spot, it works good. But for prepping a larger garden, you would be better served by a tiller which can dig deeper and works faster.

For me, yes, but I'm not using it in hard soil or if I do I give it a good watering 24 hrs before using in that area.

In my opinion, it does not have enough power to be effective, even in the light and sandy soil we have here. I returned mine to the store.

Yes, the tines can be replaced very easily. There is a cotter pin that holds them in place, and changing them out is a snap. Replacements are available through Ryobi or their affiliate part suppliers.

Hello Homeowner26! This tiller is designed to maintain small gardens and flower beds in an area that has already been tilled. Please note that this will till at 4 inches deep and will not work in an compacted area. Thanks for your question!

If the ground had "settled" it will work, but you will be there all day working on it. It works best with softer worked ground then hard pack.

This is a great cultivator for small established gardens. I use it all the time to loosen up soil and mix in compost, fertilizer, etc.... However, IMHO, it's not a very effective tool for weed removal. For overgrown weeds, I still use a hoe and/or pull by hand. In my experience, the 4 inch tines on this cultivator get clogged up with the overgrown weeds and the cultivator becomes ineffective. I spent more time cleaning out the tines then removing overgrown weeds. A basic hoe was just more effective. Once your garden is back in control, this cultivator will help you maintain the weeds. Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what I bought it for I purchased this for my wife. It was to work her new above ground garden. She's a small woman and it is easy for her to handle. The design is perfect for getting between her plants and weeding is a snap. The topsoil I put in the bed was really easy to work in the first place so it has no problems. Key is to not force into the ground, just set it in the spot and let the blades do the work. If you have really hard dirt to work, this isn't the best option. Tried it on a few spots in my yard and it didn't perform well on my dry hard yard. That's fine that wasn't the reason I purchased it in the first place. Along with the lithium battery it nice and light. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I needed I bought this because the previous homeowners had filled a flower bed that was 75% lava rocks going 6 inches deep. This busted all of that up with minimal effort on my part. Also, I have back issues and it wasn't too heavy for me to carry around. Originally, I was going to sell it after the flower bed but I've found other uses for it as well. I used it to till up my yard before sod was planted. Next I'm thinkin about using it to plant a garden. This is will definitely be a back saver. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but lacks real power Good idea...works well on garden rows where soil is already worked. A little under-powered but works ok. Could stand to have a bit more power. Not really knocking the product...works well, just could be a bit better. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great garden help This battery operated little tiller is a great helper in the garden. I use it on the edges and for weeding. It's not heavy and the charge lasts awhile. August 2, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product as all of our Ryobi tools have been We really like the ease of tilling without a gas motor or an electric cord. This cordless cultivator is made for light duty tilling and that is just what we needed. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool Works well even in relatively hard soil. Excellent for getting in between rows in our garden as well as breaking up the compacted mulch around our flower beds...and oh so convenient ! Battery has plenty of staying power and works with all my other riyobi tools. July 6, 2016
