Bought the Ryobi one+ trimmer last week. It can use the battery or a cord. Can this tiller do the same?

Answer:
This is not a tiller! It is a cultivator. No, you can not use a cord. However, it does not use up the battery very quickly, so you can do what you need to do without running out of power.

Answer:
It's made to work with a battery. The purpose of the battery is to not have to drag a cord around. We have the multiple battery charger and keep several charged so when one wears down we just snap a new one in and keep going.
I am not sure about the tiller but if it comes with a battery then it is meant to work with one and not a cord.

Unfortunately, no. I assumed it could but once I got it home, I didn't find a place to use a power cord (like the Ryobi weed whacker, which can use a cord).

Answer:
Its a fluffer only. Not enough power to break dirt. I mean it will, but it will take a long time for a decent size garden. Better to use a small rototiller.

Answer:
Yes, this cultivator does have enough power to break up dirt, but I would not recommend it for use as a tiller on a larger scale. My wife will use this cultivator to break up new dirt to transplant some flowers out in the yard. For a small spot, it works good. But for prepping a larger garden, you would be better served by a tiller which can dig deeper and works faster.

For me, yes, but I'm not using it in hard soil or if I do I give it a good watering 24 hrs before using in that area.

In my opinion, it does not have enough power to be effective, even in the light and sandy soil we have here. I returned mine to the store.

Yes, the tines can be replaced very easily. There is a cotter pin that holds them in place, and changing them out is a snap. Replacements are available through Ryobi or their affiliate part suppliers.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what I bought it for I purchased this for my wife. It was to work her new above ground garden. She's a small woman and it is easy for her to handle. The design is perfect for getting between her plants and weeding is a snap. The topsoil I put in the bed was really easy to work in the first place so it has no problems. Key is to not force into the ground, just set it in the spot and let the blades do the work. If you have really hard dirt to work, this isn't the best option. Tried it on a few spots in my yard and it didn't perform well on my dry hard yard. That's fine that wasn't the reason I purchased it in the first place. Along with the lithium battery it nice and light. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product as all of our Ryobi tools have been We really like the ease of tilling without a gas motor or an electric cord. This cordless cultivator is made for light duty tilling and that is just what we needed. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool Works well even in relatively hard soil. Excellent for getting in between rows in our garden as well as breaking up the compacted mulch around our flower beds...and oh so convenient ! Battery has plenty of staying power and works with all my other riyobi tools. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Handy Little Garden Tool Between where my gardens mulch end and the grass begins I like to keep a small strip of bare ground for the mower wheels to run. This cultivator does a great job of keeping that strip weed free, just a quick run along the garden edge with this loosens the ground just deep enough that I can lift the weeds right out. It is also great for freshening up my mulch, just move it between your plants and it fluffs the mulch back up. No more hard packed mulch mid summer. June 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for what's it's made for Used it to till backyard bare spots and works well. Battery lasts an hour plus and turns soil over about 4 inches deep. Very happy June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must have for gardeners My friend had one of these and I thought it was a small tiller (which I also have) so when I saw it and used it I was completely blown away. It is much more useful. You can loosen up the soil for planting or use between plants to clean up debris and weeds. Has a footprint of about 4 x 8 inches. I wish I had this 30 years ago, it would have made gardening much easier. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Info for Ryobi company: plastic pin keeps snapping; need metal one Bought in May 2015 but plastic pin which holds the cultivator to the shaft broke after 1 month. Took back to HD who kindly exchanged for new one & then used it off & on throughout summer. Use mostly in top soil-like dirt which does have some fist-size rocks or if hard dirt wet ground enough for it to easily churn the dirt. When working among weeds if you lift unit off ground but keep blades rotating, they fall right off. But again this year while using, the plastic pin has snapped. I love the unit as I have very bad carpal tunnel as well as tenosynovitis in my wrist so cultivating the soil & weeding has been very easy w/ this (yes, buy the large battery which allows long use & large area coverage, although not easy to remove if you have no strength in your thumbs) BUT I would like to see Ryobi use a more pliable plastic around cultivator & use a metal pin as there is a lot of movement & rotation this little guy puts out. Hoping warranty is good & will try again. May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Piece of Equipment Assembly was a no brainer and the run time is excellent. After having a shoulder replacement this became a key gardening tool. June 13, 2016
