I had this little sander for 9 years and used it on jobs it really wasn't meant for. It put up with my abuse until today the teeth of the drive gear let loose. I went right out and bought the exact same unit seeing as how I have 5 other Ryobi tools that take the same battery. It served me well and died an honorable death. Well done Ryobi.

This sander has seen more use than I care to think of. I've sanded drywall after tape and bed, polished stainless steel on outdoor barbecues, finish sanded furniture pieces, and much more. Although I've recently purchased the new green model, this sander still gets a workout any time I'm building props, and will come in handy since the wife started refinishing furniture as a hobby. 3 years, 100's of sanding pads, and I can't seem to kill it!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by NormalDude79 Great Sander until gears strip
When all of my old tools started failing, I bought all Ryobi because all the tools took the same batteries. (my previous tools each had their own battery) I bought this sander and LOVED it, worked easy, handled great and made the wood super smooth, which gave a great finish for my living room tables. However this tool suddenly made major noise, while sanding my headboard. I opened it, thinking a part got loose. When I opened it, there were alot of metal shavings, and the "teeth" of the gears striped completely off .... What made me mad was this sander only needed a single new gear, but they dont sell them to customers as well as Home Depot. So a perfect tool that needs a little gear, goes to the landfill. This had been a very nice tool, and I needed to finish sanding down my headboard for the new stain, so I bought a replacement, but this time I got the Home Depot Extended warranty !

Love this product. It's comfortable to use and doesn't fatigue my arm while using it. Has the perfect grip and it's sturdy.

I am a Ryobi 18v fan and do a lot of my woodworking on my patio. I like this sander because I can work on projects where cords are inconvenient. I use this to smooth rough lathe objects as they turn. It makes double speed sanding possible on the outside of bowls and long spindles. I also us it when painting and working on trim when I run into a rough spot without having to plug in or run a cord. I am impressed by the new lithium ion batteries for Ryobi 18v. I have yet to run one out using this sander. They are awesome compared to the old ni-cad batteries.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by John overheats too easily & shuts off.
Picked this up lastnight to do 1 bedroom wall. It worked for about 20 minutes then just shut down.
I followed the instructions to cool off the motor and it came back on. I figured Id let it cool down for 20 minutes, started it back up this time it ran about 10 mins before shutting down. I have let it sit now for an hour, made sure my battery was fully charged & now it comes on and runs for about 10 seconds then powers down. I hope I have better luck with other plus 1 tools from Ryobi.

This is a handy tool to use when sanding my stair rails and treads. I just purchased an old Victorian house that has tons of painted wood trim. This sander is doing a great job getting into the small spaces and getting rid of that horrible paint covering the beautiful wood.
