Answer:
This radio does NOT come with a battery or charger.
A Ryobi 18v battery is required for operation. Compatible batteries currently in production include the P100, P102, P105, P107, and P108. Ryobi sells the P117 charger to charge any of these batteries, although the P128 kit (one battery and one charger) may be a good solution.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 98 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent sound and battery life improved I bought one of the radios labeled that they were now improved. I had read reviews about these units going through batteries so I decided to measure the actual power consumption. Given that a regular battery is 25Wh (for the small battery) I found: Radio off for more than 1 hour: 0.04W = 26 days battery life. Radio off but with USB still charging my iPhone: 5 watts, dropped to 0.3W when phone was fully charged Radio on at mid volume: 2.6 watts - 10 hours battery life. Blue-tooth on at mid volume: 3.0 watts - 8 hours battery life. Volume cranked up all the way: 6.0 watts - 4.2 hours battery life. Radio on mid volume AND charging my iPhone: 8 watts - 3 hours battery life (but it should do much better as the phone would fill up and then stop drawing the extra energy). I think these are pretty reasonable numbers. Given the great sound quality and unexpected bass and treble adjustments, I am just thrilled with this little wonder. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Compact Radio Where do I start? This radio exceeded my expectations. I love the portability of it, the ruggedness of it and most of all, I love the fact that it uses the same batteries that the rest of my Ryobi tools use! The fact that a battery lasts over 8 hours doesn't hurt either! If there's a "downside" to this, it's that I wish it was a "stereo" radio instead of a "mono" one... Great product Ryobi!! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great radio, poor job site clock Have had mine for a few years now & it's still going great but I thought I should inform Ryobi & others of the issues I have with it. 1) It's mono (of course) but if you play a familiar stereo tune, you'll notice one of the channels is missing. 2) The clock- I work on job sites where there no clock at all but the one on my radio. Aux input shows the time but if the radio's on, the display shows the station you're listening to and to see the time, you have to walk over to it & hit the clock button. Kind of inconvenient. I know what station I'm listening to- I chose it, listen to it all day & they even tell me who they are every 30 minutes or so, but I'd rather see the time as a default. I've read complaints about scrolling thru the presets. There's only 10 so it's not that big a deal but going up AND DOWN the order would be nice. It's passed the 3'+ drop test on multiple occasions, been sprayed with paint and adhesives and cleaned up OK. A pretty durable unit and if they resolved the clock issue in the next edition, I'd get another one, ASAP. October 14, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by battery drains when turned off This was part of a ryobi kit otherwise I would not have bought it. But so glad I did, whenever I am working now I pull it out. So the concept of a 18v battery operated radio is great, but execution is average. Reception is average Could be louder, clearer The elastic on the back does not hold my phone which I use as an MP3 player, It is designed for "belt clips", who has those. One last , but very important thing, this lasts many hours, maybe more than 6, but it drains the battery quicker off than on. I have to pull the battery out when I turn it off or store it, which is shame as it is my most used tool and would like it to be always ready March 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi 18 volt radio Excellent quality of sound. Easy to operate. Figuring out how to pre-set radio stations was a challenge. You need a light touch on the pre-set button. My only caveat is battery charge. Seems like you only get about an hour before the battery icon starts flashing on the radio panel. I have not let it run down completely so do not know how accurate the warning is. Otherwise a solid performer. March 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent!! Great radio, as for the aux jack, just order a longer male to male jack and jack adapter like i did, which cost around $10 if you get it from amazon, that solved it. i have a samsung s4 so it did not fit in the rear compartment, what i did is use a velcro elastic strap and a cell phone case and strapped it around the radio, does not even have any effect on sound quality.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Update to Previous Review I am updating a previous review of this product in which I gave an unfavorable rating based upon two earlier purchases of this product. Ryobi's customer care representative arranged for me to try yet a third Ryobi radio. This time I took the radio to a farm located in a poor radio reception area of the state. Over a two week period, the radio worked well and managed to pull in radio stations that ordinary household radio receivers were unable to do with any clarity. Since the period of evaluation was relatively short, I cannot speak to its long term quality. However, the price of the radio, its features and the convenience of using Ryobi batteries already in my inventory makes it a solid choice for my uses. November 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little radio Took this guy out on the beach yesterday. It lasted 6 hours on a fully charged Ni-Cd battery. Love the auxillary cord for listening to music on phones, iPods, or any other 3.5mm device. Sound is very good. The digital tuner with presets is great. I wish it showed the clock by default while it was on the tuner instead of the station. You can press Clock to show it, but that's annoying I wish Ryobi would have used these components in their new work radio. Reading the reviews it sounds like sound quality was definitely cut back on that device. This one however is a winner. If you have other ONE+ tools and find yourself paying for batteries to bring a radio off-site frequently, this is a no-brainer August 6, 2012
