We use the drill to open and close the chuck, so durability there has not been an issue. There are plenty of "vertical serrations" for your hand to grip onto and to make a solid connection. The only part of the chuck I would say could be a difficulty is that the three prongs in the chuck have a raised edge to them so if what ever your putting into the chuck is slightly off it will let you know. Rather than just closing and possibly having a drill bit or screwdriver bit just slightly out of alignment. Read Less

Hi Pedro, this drill has a 1/2 chuck. That's good as that gives you options, when using larger drill bits or hole saws with larger mandrels. Enjoy.

P818 = DISCONTINUED.
Thanks for your responses, folks, but I've found the final answer for myself.
I called Ryobi and spoke with "Alicia," who told me the P818 package was discontinued a couple years ago. Apparently, The Home Depot had bought a mega-surplus but finally ran out.
Oh well. The P818 was such a good deal; it was worth waiting these past few weeks for a restock that never came. :-(

* The P1811 kit includes the P208B drill, P118 (60-min) charger, & (2) P102 Lithium batteries. This kit is currently $79. (in-stock)
* You CAN buy the P208B online as a "tool only" from other sources. Search Amazon for "Ryobi P208" for more info. The tool-only is a good deal if you already have batteries or as a replacement/spare. The P818 kit is your best buy because (2) P107 batteries are $100 & the P117 charger is another $40. With the P818 kit you are basically getting the drill & charger thrown in for the cost of (2) P107 Lithium+ batteries
* The P208B drill has been around for several years. She sports the current design of the Ryobi lineup, and even has a throwback...a bubble-level on top. I am pretty up-to-speed on Ryobi's One+ lineup (40+ tools) and I haven't seen any info on a replacement.
The step-below drills are respectively the P271 & P209. You get these models in the lesser multi-tool combo kits, or in a drill/driver kit. The P271 also comes in the P882 Drill/Driver + Impact Driver Set. Only regular P102 packs come with these kits. If you look closely you will notice these drills sport the older One+ design. Both the P271 & P209 are available "tool only" from Amazon. Read Less

I assume you mean out-of-stock online? You should check your local HD stores as often (as long as it isn't listed as "Online Only") items are available in-store even when out-of-stock online.

ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium+ 1/2 in. Cordless Compact Drill/Driver Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 129.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from UPDATE: "Poor Quality control" (but FANTASTIC customer service) I posted a couple weeks back about what I thought (at the time) was poor quality control that led to my new drill's chuck falling out of the drill housing, as if had never been assembled properly at the factory. Well, that -may- have been a rare instance of quality control but I did want to make two important updates to my previous review: 1) Home Depot has a great return policy and I was able to exchange for another unit (same model) that has been working perfectly and is (now) a quality product 2) Ryobi's parent company (TTi) has fantastic customer support! I was contacted by a rep who had read my review here and he asked for more details about the unit so they could track down why it left the factory broken. He even followed up a week later to get the store information and apologize for the inconvenience. I'm very impressed with Ryobi/TTi's customer service in this regard. Kudos to them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Package is great value This market is pretty saturated, which is great for consumers. I reached twice for the Makita, but just couldn't justify the price for my needs. After some help from the Home Depot kid, I had the drill + two LiOn battery kit. I lamented that the batteries were not the Plus version, but still thought it was a great value. As I was heading toward the register, I happened upon THIS kit on an end cap display. Same drill and charger, but the two batteries were the LithiumPlus kind.... For the same $129! Done and done. Drill is comfy, has plenty of torque, and appeared the sip the battery during the first project I used it on. The little magnetic tray on the base is extremely handy; I can get used to this. My only minor letdown is that the light is on/off with the trigger. Other drills I've used leave the light illuminated for a few seconds after releasing the trigger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Drill Ever This drill is great! It has a great feel in hands for females, males and even my teenage sons. Adjustable torque and ability to go slow makes it user friendly for any project. Not to heavy to hold, which was one of my concerns as a female with weak wrists. My husband even admits he likes it better than his big macho electric drill. The One+ batteries make it super convenient because you can switch them out with other Ryobi tools. Batteries have a charge light that tell you how much charge they have so you are never left with a dead battery in the middle of a project. I would definitely recommend this drill to EVERYONE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lightweight Drill This is an excellent tool. Having a bad back, I've been limited to lightweight cord drills. This cordless drill was the first i've been able to lift and use. Works very well and the reverse switch is in a comfortable position for quick one hand operation. A friend used it to build me a deck and staircase and told me it was the best tool I've ever bought. I have to agree. Thanks RYOBI.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Upgrade Bought this as an upgrade from a friend advise, and I am very pleased. HD was running a sale on the bigger batteries 2 for the price of 1. It came with a 30 minute charger and the small batteries take 30 minutes and the bigger batteries take 60 minutes. nice carrying case to boot. This afternoon I replaced 2 board on my deck 32 screws 3 inches out and 32 screws 3 inches in. From the battery gauge No discharge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi Rocks I love almost all my Ryobi 18V tools (not nuts about the chainsaw) and I have been using them hard for the past 9 years. When the batteries started going bad I looked to replace the batteries when I saw this honey of a deal. Two batteries, new charger, and a drill for the price of the two batteries. You can't beat that with a stick. My old drill has been put into my tiling box for mixing mud and the new one goes to every job with me. The drill is light wieght and compact while still laying lumber in the torque department. I am impressed with the durability of the Ryobi line and I am sure that this drill will give me 9 plus years as well.
Date published: 2014-05-01
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cannot go wrong for the money I was replacing a deck last week and wanted something low maintenance, so I gave the composite decking a try. I was using 3 inch stainless steel screws, and I was worried that a cordless drill wouldn't have the torque to go through the composite decking with that size screw. Boy was I wrong! I went with this package thinking that having the extra battery would save me time. I didn't want to wait around a couple hours for the battery to charge when I was building the deck. I'm glad I have the extra battery, but I didn't even use it. I took the battery out of the box, put it on the charger, and within 10 minutes had a full charge. Working on the deck, I ran out of gas long before the battery in the drill did. The drill was still going strong after a couple of hours of constant use. These ion batteries seem to last way longer than the normal battery that I had in my old cordless drill. When I took a break, I put the drill back on the charger, and it was fully charged when my break was over. With my old drill, I had to swap batteries. The drill is very light, but comfortable to use, and very powerful. The 3 inch screws went into the composite decking with a setting of 19. Anything more was overkill, and the drill had more to give if I needed it. I'm very happy with this purchase, and would recommend it to anyone with an older cordless drill with standard batteries who is looking to upgrade.
