he 1/2 inch chuck holds a shank max size of 1/2 inch. This is pretty much the industry standard for most "commercial drills". Home depot sells "reduced shank" bits, which are larger in drilling size of the actual "working part" of the bit, which reduce to either 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch chuck size for drilling larger holes with your current drill. These are the high speed drill bits, masonary bits, etc. The "spade-(flat wood boring type) bits" go quite large without even having a 1/2 inch chuck and most have a shank that have 6 sides to positively lock in the chuck The best are the older style of a "corkscrew" design, which are still sold and are very aggressive in wood, for jobs such as "rough-in" applications, where you are drilling many holes through doubled and tripled 2 by stock for running plumbing and electrical jobs. These should be used with a slow speed, as they have a screw on the end, to aid in "pulling" the bit through the wood. These do require a bit of force, anda drill with a variable speed switch and a lot of torque, which this drill has in abundance. I have used this drill and it's older versions with fantastic success. This is a very hearty drill with much mojo that will stick right in there with you on a job. Definitely recommend. The impact driver uses standard driver bits and works exceptionally well. It is better to use a longer bit or a short bit in a magnetic extension or "quick-change extension, as the regular length short bits won't work by themselves, as they drop too deep into the chuck of the impact driver. Definitely get you a set of metric and SAE nutdrivers, as this thing can drive in 6 to 8 inch lag screws in decks without breaking a sweat. The days of having to drive long screws by running them in and then backing them out and running them back into to "sink them tight" are over with this impact driver. push, pull the trigger, and it is done without breaking. If you have some cheapie driver bits, they may break if put to heavy-duty use, so spring a few dollars and buy the "impact driver" style bits, last longer and hold up much better. Definitely recommend and have not had to take back any of the multiple sets I have purchased. The older models I have in different tool sets are still going strong with full contractor use, no problems. Great deal and great price. Definite difference in the old nic/cad versus this new lithium. Lighter and much stronger as well as charging quick and holding a charge for a long time. No regrets! Read Less

Hi Viper,
I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site.
The chuck on this drill is 1/2 inch. It will accept bits up to 1/2 inch in diameter.
Larger drill bits will have a shank that is 1/2'' or smaller to accommodate most drills, including this one.
Thanks for asking.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1117 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Value! Works well, does what it is supposed to to. Great value for this kit, which regularly goes on sale for $99.00. I had no problem driving 16x 1/2" lag screws on one charge. Is it as powerful as the Milwaukee or Rigid? No. But for the $$ you pay for this, it works quite well. I don't know how it would stand up to everyday use in a pro environment, but for the homeowner, it's great! August 4, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice concept - poor product I love the idea of one battery type for all my cordless tools - and decided to pass on my recchargables to my children and go with ryobi. You can't argue with the price and the stock on hand but....the quality just isn't there - my drill from combo is seized and it was by not means overworked - in fact I had purchased a second drill with another package so it shared duties - lasted less than one year - so whatever advantage there is to sharing batteries - you lose in quality - to bad really! June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Long lasting fast charging batteries I got this as a gift. I had considered a more pricey brand but I don't do a lot of diy projects any longer. Decided on this set. Very pleased with the performance while renovating my deck with composite decking. All the power and performance I needed June 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by very disapointed Bought this combo in January and have used the drill 3 times and now the motors fried. So now I'm without a drill for who knows how long till its repaired 400 miles away! June 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by must have wanted a impact driver this was on sale. Already had two drills and 4 batteries but you can't have enough batteries! Impact driver puts in 3 1/2 inch like nothing! so much power tim allen grunt June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good purchase Using it in the shop. Very good battery life. Fast charging. June 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver and Impact Driver Kit (2-Tool) Overall, this pair of drills are a pretty good product. The grips are a bit thick, the drill chuck knurls are too thin and many causing skin burning and/or removing when trying to tighten or loosen the drill chuck. They both are a bit too heavy compared to my Black and Decker drills that seems to have better grip design, overall width and shape. The B&D has a bit more torque although the Ryobi claims to have more torque and higher rpm. Other than the negatives, overall, a good purchase and hopefully will last longer than the charger which only charged the battery one time before needing replaced. Will update this review if anything changes. July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ryobi tools I have enjoyed having my impact drill and my drill that I purchased from Home Depot...I build my complete storage building using my impact an drill...without any problems I will give these tools a 4 out of 5 for durability and reliability.... August 19, 2016
