Customer Questions & Answers

How long will the battery last once charged?

Asked by: meme
Bought it yesterday and used it for the first time today. I have some tall grass to trim in an area about 2 feet wide by 80 long or so. I got half way done; about 20 minutes before the battery died. But that's OK, I need the hour's rest out of the sun :)

does it come with a charger?

does it come with a charger?
Asked by: heather
Yes it comes with a battery and charger depending on which boxed version you buy, Some are tool only and will be marked tool only, if it is tool only then it will not have a battery and charger. I would recommend on purchasing the boxed version with battery and charger, it costs more but then you get everything you need to get started from the beginning. I had purchased mine on a one day sale for $29.99 and it was the complete boxed version with battery and charger. It is one of the best buys I have ever made.

Does the trimmer come with a spool for the string

I purchased this trimmer and it did not include any string or the spool. Now I can't find a spool that fits it - should it have come with a spool?
Asked by: DTATL
My trimmer came with the spool loaded with string, so you should return it for replacement.

ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Electric Cordless String Trimmer and Edger is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 648.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi Does It Again I just became a new home owner and installed some sod. I needed a set of home improvement equipment and decided to go with Ryobi because of their competitive price. It didn't disappoint. I thought I might of sacrificed quality but that wasn't the case. This trimmer/edger is the latest of Ryobi product I purchased and it worked awesome. My dad who has a Toro trimmer/edger told me he liked mine much better and went ahead and bought one for himself. My yard isn't the biggest, so if you have an acre or more, make sure you have extra batteries, as they only last for so long. In my case, they worked perfectly.

The 18 volt battery is next to useless, overheating and losing its charge after less than 15 minutes of use in 8-inch grass and small weeds. The only good thing about the battery system is that the included charger does recharge the battery fairly quickly. Before my first use, I was able to go from the partial charge out of the box to a full charge in about 15 minutes. Each time that it failed, I was able to restore to a full charge in about 35 minutes. The unit is lightweight, nicely balanced, maneuverable, and relatively quiet for a string trimmer, When fully charged, it delivers adequate power, especially with the optional blade attachment. However, the very poor battery performance makes this machine unsuitable for anything other than very light trimming for a few minutes. This is the only reason why I cannot recommend it. After three hours and four recharges, I have given up. Fortunately Home Depot has a 90-day return on these units, which I am going exercise tomorrow. I should have paid a few dollars more for the "hybrid" model, which operates both on battery or on a cord.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed by this! I just bought my first house and have been redoing all of the landscaping. I needed a good trimmer, and the edger was an added bonus. Very simple to assemble (takes about a minute) and you're ready to go. The trimmer works great, but I was especially surprised by the edger. Every edger I had ever seen are the ones with the wheels that kind of "walk" down the edge of the grass. I was a little nervous about this one since I don't exactly have the most steady hands, but it comes out great! I have two batteries so battery life wasn't a problem for me because I always had a backup. Also, the string is a snap to change out. Well worth your money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Performer at a Great Price! This is very light, easy to hold, and easy to maneuver. I had a similarly priced Black and Decker trimmer that did a nice job, but it was weighted so unevenly that it was very difficult to use, and caused lower back pain. The Ryobi does a great job trimming in the normal position, and converts quickly to an edger. The only thing that caused concern, but was easily rectified, is the way it self-feeds line off the spool. Be sure to read your manual, or you'll go through string too quickly. If you operate it correctly, the string lasts MUCH longer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from VERY Light Duty Edger I bught this edger after having a shouder injury and could only use something that could be handled (mostly) one-handed. The one good feature about this edger is that it is light. All of the negative issues include that the string breaks easily, the refill spools are expensive, it doesn't last very long unless you buy the larger (much more expensive) batteries, and the edger feature is useless if you are trying to trim by concrete (because the string constantly breaks). Lastly, the cutting area of this unit is incredibly small which means you're going to spend a LOT more time edging than you would with electric or gas edgers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from STRING LINE GETS PULLED INTO MOTOR'S ROTATING SHAFT I bought this for $79.97 2years ago and just realized that in between uses, I spent more time handling the string spool putting it in and out during the 10 minute usage. Now the blue string line gets pulled into the rotating shaft and I cannot remove it, I read the cust reviews that after several uses, some were having the same issue. Contacted Ryobi and they suggested to bring it to a servi center who fixes trimmers but the cost to fix is in bet $70-$80, and there is the $19.97 spool replacement each time. With all these costs and issues with Ryobi, I opted to get a new trimmer from ECHO as recommended by the servc tech. Had it for several days, so far it's good, let's see after 2 yrs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money!! Excellent value for the money. It is very lightweight and is less strain on my body. Even lighter than my old electric cord trimmer. Tired of electric corded lawn equipment I wanted to go the gas route. The gas trimmers seem awfully heavy and way more expensive. I stayed away from battery operated devices but with the Lithium ion type it will last a long time. Also Ryobi has been supporting these batteries since 1996. While the batteries have been improved nothing has been obsoleted so I feel comfortable finding replacement stuff in the future. The rotation from trimmer to edger seemed a little weak but in use worked well. I wouldn't have bought if I had known this was another auto feed trimmer because of problems I've had in the past with other brands. This one is completely different. It only auto feeds when you let the trimmer come to a full stop for a few seconds then restart. It worked absolutely beautifully! When the battery is near dying the trimmer doesn't slow down. When the battery is empty it just completely shuts off, which I like. The battery and charger it comes with is part of the great value. It is not the most powerful trimmer but if you attack the grass/weeds from top to bottom and use the very end of the string it can take down some big stubborn weeds. Ryobi again has proven itself to be well engineered and the best bang for your buck. Looking forward to buying other Ryobi equipment that is battery operated, way less hassle without the cord.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded My Expectations I have a fairly modest assortment of the Ryobi One+ tools which are almost entirely for woodworking. This is my first lawncare tool that neither plugs in nor requires dinosaur squeezings. I expected it to work, but to bog down easily. On the contrary; it plows through tall grasses and thicker weeds with a power that was a bit startling. The lower part of the shaft rotates 180° to turn the head for a very capable edger. Even diving into the dirt, the head simply slows down a bit and tears into the mulch leaving a clean edge. I was equally impressed with the battery life. I can do my whole property once a week for several weeks before needing to recharge the battery. I have a LOT of the batteries so a swap takes just a jog to the garage and I'm ready to go in a minute or less.
