Product Overview

The Ryobi Hybrid trimmer is the trimmer that never runs out of power. Cordless and Electric. This unique trimmer is a member of the ONE+ 18-Volt tool family that means that it will work with any Ryobi 18-Volt battery. The most unique thing about the Ryobi Hybrid is the dual power source. Aside from the battery, this trimmer is also electric so you can use the battery or use an extension cord. This means you have unlimited power for jobs closer to the building and cordless mobility for jobs beyond. So whether you're using the fade-free lithium battery or the electric port, this trimmer will never run out of power. On top of that, Ryobi packs this trimmer with convenient features like adjustable cut-width, edger capability and an outstanding 3-year warranty. The product includes the tool only; battery and charger sold separately.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can you run this hybrid unit OK without a battery, just plug it in?

I have a long cord and have no problem using that, rather than recharging batteries all the time that eventually go kaput, and then you have to figure out how to dispose of them. So I'd like to buy it if it will run plugged in, and not even purchase the battery and charger, as it comes separately and I don't want it.

Can I respool the line myself or do I have to buy spools ech time I need one?

Asked by: foleyp
You can re-spool the line using either 0.065 or 0.080 line. 0.080 line will last longer, and the commercial rated lines available online or the star cross section line will last longer than the round line. Either way, do yourself a favor and make sure the line color is green, otherwise the blue string looks way out of place on your lawn.

can i change out the spool head from a bump style for a differant style feeder head

Asked by: sunrise
These heads are auto feed heads, not bump heads. To advance line, release the trigger for about a second or two, then run the trigger again. The string should auto advance. Bumping the head can void the warranty per the user manual. I do not like the auto advance as it uses a lot of line if you release the trigger as you walk from one tree to another in a yard. My solution, replace the spring under the string spool (opposite the side of the head with the manual advance button - which has to be removed to do this option). I replaced it with a spring from a ball point pen, so now the trimmer is only a manual advance system. Then using 0.080 line (preferably star cross section), you really reduce the amount of used line while trimming. With a little careful listening, you can tell when you should advance line as the head speed increases with little line - resulting in a higher pitched whine.

Purchased online with delivery option and it arrived on time with everything intact. Assembly was easy and minimal. It has been a blessing for me since. I am a 61-year old female who is about the size of an average 10-year old. I use a medium duty outdoor cord rather than purchasing the battery. This Ryobi is a dream to handle for both trimming and edging as it is so lightweight and adjustable. I can get right up to the brickwork and planters. It actually works better and faster at edging the lawn than the electric push edger I had. I definitely would recommend this product.

The best thing about this product is being a hybrid, which means that I can use it using the Ryobi one+ 18 volt battery or plugging directly to the outlet. I already used this product multiple times and all I can say is that this is a very good trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for medium sized yard use I bought the Ryobi hybrid string trimmer and edger combo just over a month ago and it has been a great addotion to my landscaping tools. I can use an electrical extension cord when the batteries charge and I am near my house. I can switch to a battery and finish all parts of the yard too far from the house. Powered by battery or cord this trimmer is light and easy to carry around for the 2 hours it takes me to finish the trimming. It has been strong enough to cut through thick grass and weeds for long periods of time in patchez of lawn that cannot be reached with a mower. I am very pleased with the 18v ONE sytem and have already bought the hedge trimmer and drill. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like that I don't need an extension cord! I bought this at the end of April this year. I like the lightness of it, and not having to drag an extension cord. However, the battery runs out after about 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure if this is normal, so I borrowed a friend's who bought his a few years ago. I used his battery in my trimmer. I got about the same battery life (15-20 Minutes). I run it continuously through 4"-6" grass. At this point, I'm not sure if this is normal battery life. Should I just return it? Thanks! When I was done for the first run in my yard, the battery still had a lot of charge left in it. I would say for the price it was a good performer. I might add that some type of shoulder strap would be helpful as it starts to feel a bit heavy after a while. I agree with others that it does eat the line fairly quickly and bump and feed may be a better option. I also like that I can use so many Ryobi products with the same batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! This is my second trimmer from Ryobi. The ease of having rechargeable batteries is super. No maintenance required except for occasionally changing out the line spool, but that's easy. So much better than any gas trimmer I have ever had. I also have a Ryobi rechargeable drill, chainsaw, and blower. My first trimmer lasted over 6 years without a problem, it still works! Thanks Ryobi! I always recommend any of these products to friends. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value! You know that for the money you'll never get a better product. All my power tools or Ryobi, and I'm a plumber. Not only that I just chop down a bunch of trees with my go-go gadget chainsaw and my handheld chainsaw (battery powered). The Weedwhacker might not be the strongest or the tool of choice for someone who weed whacks daily or for a living but for around the house you cannot beat the hybrid Weedwhacker.
