Terrible product! Weak motor and poor battery life. I will not buy Ryobi again; miss my old Black and Decker weedhog.

Bought this today, assembled it in about 5 minutes. Works very well and I got about 20 minutes of use before the battery died. This was on a one+ battery that came with my blower and used only twice, but was fully charged. I do have a huge lot so my expectation was met. Swapped the battery and I was able to complete the job with 10 more minutes of battery life. The trimmer line feed is a nice feature and worked really well. No more tapping and shaving the lawn while doing it. The other very nice feature was the edge trimmer. the grass/interlock line looks excellent now.

I bought this trimmer because of my past experience with a Ryobi trimmer. Did the job and lasted for years. So bought this one to have the corded feature as a backup in case I ran out of batteries.
This trimmer works well, but it is shipped with a SUB-standard battery compared to the previous comparable Ryobi trimmer I owned.
The battery this trimmer comes with is a disappointment. I fortunately have other Ryobi batteries that I can use in it's place and the poor battery is now used for my Ryobi flashlight, which is all that it's good for.
The trimmer is light weight, easy to handle and the twist and pivot the head feature is very handy.
To sum up, happy with the trimmer but really not happy with the battery. For that reason it only gets 3 stars. C'mon Ryobi smarten up.

I have a fairly small plot of grass. So small I use a push mower. The plot is bordered by 4x4 wood and I needed something to edge it with. I got this trimmer because: I have other Ryobi 18V tools and like them, it came with a battery and charger so now I have a spare, and it was affordable.
I get it out of the box. Minor assembly as in put the string guard and handle on. Very easy. Came with trimmer string. Charged battery. This trimmer can be used with a battery or extension cord.
One nice feature I noticed right away was adjustability. I am 6ft 3in tall and the trimmer can be adjusted easily to different heights. By adjusting the trimmer I was able to operate without having to hunch over. Very nice!
So I trimmed the grass, works great.
First rechargeable I have used but worked as good as any electical trimmer.

This trimmer is excellent well-built, lightweight if you have a small yard like a Chicago bungalow and know how to use
it properly. Tip no 1. Take out the spool and remove the little spring that self feeds the line . I use about a foot of line for the whole summer. How? I never hit the sidewalk or too close to the ground. You don't need to run the motor full RPM either in order to trim grass. I use small bursts
On the trigger every second and this way you save the line from breaking and saving BATERRY juice. You will need to practice a bit and you will never have to use a cord with this trimmer.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hpiguy Battery or Corded power option. Auto String Feedng, Adjustable cutting width and handle height.
The Hybrid One+ String Trimmer from Ryobi will help you keep your yard looking neat and orderly while being quiet and efficient at the same time.
In the box you'll find the trimmer mostly assembled, the secondary handle, the clipping shield along with the 18V One+ Lithium battery and the charger. Make sure to log on to Ryobi's website and register the three year product warranty. Three years. Most companies only offer 90 days to one year.
First thing I noticed was how light the trimmer was, yet it didn't feel cheap. It was solid and had enough heft to feel like it can get the job done without being too heavy on the arms.
Assembly takes less than five minutes. Attach the secondary handle and clipping shield with the included screws and that's it. Snap the battery into the charger and you'll be ready to go in about 30-45 minutes depending on how much charge the battery needs. If you already own any other One+ 18V pack, NiCd or Lithium it will clip onto this trimmer as well.
Since this is a hydrid you don't have to wait for the battery to charge to use the trimmer. Slide the orange battery cover plate to the corded side and plug in your outdoor extension cord.
Being able to swivel the trimming head from trim to edge is very welcome and my favorite feature. It's quickly and easily accomplished. There is a large grip on the handle, you simply slide that handle and turn the entire trimmer head to the desired function. Handle height is adjusted in the same manner by a large grip just above the trim/edge grip.
I own two other gas powered Ryobi trimmers and this electric model fits it's intended niche between the two tools perfectly. The adjustable cutting width from 10 to 12 inches makes this the perfect tool for getting up close to smaller yard features and flower beds that I can't take the large trimmers into. I can flip it to the edging mode and trim right up to the waterfall and smaller flowers without tearing everything up. You can't do that with the bigger edgers. It's the perfect cleanup tool for really getting that neat and clean finished edge.
The included battery has a good run time. It's the base model regular capacity battery offered with other One+ tools. I was able to trim and edge both sides of my 96 feet of city sidewalk before it faded and needed a charge. As the battery gets used a few times, it's run time will improve slightly. Since I own many other One+ tools, I just grabbed another pack and kept cutting. Had I not had any other packs, this is where the hybrid feature comes in handy. Plug in your extension cord and keep going!
The charger included is wonderful. Mainly because it's a dual chemistry charger. Meaning it will charge any One+ 18V battery you have. NiCd or Lithium. No need to make sure you're using the right charger anymore.
To feed more string, you just release the trigger for two seconds and pull it again. The string automatically advances more string. Do not bump the head on the ground to advance string. This could break the trimmer head. It also has an advance button on the trimmer head to allow you to pull more string out manually. Reloading the single string is quick and simple since it's a single string trimmer. Just rewind and go.
This Ryobi Hybrid Trimmer has met all my expectations and is quickly becoming my go to tool for quick weed whacking and putting the finishing touches on my yard work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by farmgirl95602 Ryobi has done it again!
I have owned both gas and electric string trimmers before. This is one of the best I have used for small trimming, it uses the 0.65 line. No gas engine whining in your ears. No cord, unless you want it, to hold you back. If I have some big ugly weeds to trim, I'll get out the 0.80 line gas trimmer. Otherwise, this is my trimmer of choice.
I thought the 10 inch cutting area was too small and switched it, per directions, to the 12 inch cutting area.
If the battery dies and you don't have another charged battery, you can always flip the plastic separator to plug in a cord and continue trimming. There is a hook that holds the cord so that it doesn't come unplugged.
Every time you turn off the trimmer, it automatically extends the line. No bumping. Of course, if you turn it on and off often, it could waste line.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Faisal Great product for small size yards
The trimmer requires a 5 minutes of easy assembly with a screw driver. It’s capable of running on battery or electric. The trimmer is advertised as “Never run out of power” but only if you run on electric because the battery power will run out in about 10-12 minutes. When running on battery, the power is a bit less compared to running on electric. I have large area to trim with really thick grass and trimming with battery just doesn’t do it. Once battery dies, I have to go back to my garage and attached the cable and then come back to the work area to finish the job. About 95% of the time, I am now using it with cable. So, when do I use the battery? When I think I am done with my trimming and put the cable away but then I notice a few areas that I missed, that’s when the battery comes really handy for me since I don’t have to pull the cable out again.
With battery, this trimmer will work great in a small size yard. For mid-size yard, you will use it for final touch ups of trimming/edging. It’s definitely not suitable if a large area is to be trimmed / edged.
With electric, it will of course run as long as you are paying your electric bill and will cut no matter the size.
Recharging the totally drained battery takes about 45 minutes.
You can convert this trimmer into edger by simply rotating the shaft. The most convenient feature for me is the Shaft Height Adjustment. Overall, it does a great job (check out my yard pictures). I am a happy consumer.
