How long does a fully charged batter last?

Trying to determine how long a battery will last (on average) when using it outdoors trimming. I don't have a huge area to trim and I'm tired of dealing with the gas trimmer I have. It's not starting this year. I don't have any RYOBI products for spare batteries.

Battery life depends on which battery you use. Nicad, lithium ion 18v, or lithium ion+ 18v, they have large and small batteries. with the fat lithium ion you can go for about an hour. the battery it comes with is about 15-25 minutes depending on how thick the weeds you're trimming are.

Which weight is the right one?

The box states that the unit weighs 5.75 lbs. but the website states 10 lbs. (and it feels more like 10lbs) Which one is the right weight?
Asked by: emma
It is most definitely closer to ten pounds.

Can you get this model without the battery and charger like the $49 model that is battery operated only? I have other Ryobi products/batteries.

Asked by: Barry
I believe there is one available with just the battery powered option. It could work if you you have a limited amount of trimming and/or a lot of lithium ion batteries. I have 4 Ni-Cad batteries and 2 additional chargers and 3/4 of an acre of property and bought the hybrid. Hope this helps...

Is a battery and charger included? What kind?

There are many different kinds of batteries in the RYBOI line: Lithium, Lithium Plus, Compact, High Capacity etc. and a few different chargers, so if these are included with this product I would like to know which kind?
Asked by: paulogy
A Lithium-ion battery and charger is included. I don't know the Ryobi line, but the battery doesn't say "Plus" on it so I suspect it's just the straight lithium.

After reading the reviews I figured it would do the job and be small enough for my wife to use. Well after giving it a try I considered giving it to my 3 year old nephew as a TOY. This thing couldn't cut an air biscuit! What a joke, it had a hard time trimming grass and too weak to edge with. Battery lasted less than 15 minutes with full charge. Perfect for that small child who wants to help out with the lawn. My lawn is 12'x20' and this was dead after trimming along the perimeters

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cutting String Jams under spindle Pros - Easy to assemble, battery charged fully in 30 minutes. Cons - Blue Nylon cutting string a nightmare. It would get longer, then shorter, then longer and wrap around and under the spindle shaft. I had to remove this many times. It was a pain in the rear. I will switch over to the green cutting string the next time I use it. If it doesn't fix the problem, taking it back to Home Depot, I'm glad I purchased the 2 year take back plan.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sorry I bought this Ryobi makes good equipment from what everyone says but I wish I had not bought this one. I have used up the line that came with it and spent more time trying to get it to come out, yes I followed the directions, read them over and over. I finally used it up and replaced it and it still breaks off and does not feed correctly as far as I am concerned. I have always used this type of trimmer but this one is terrible. May just donate it but I hate to do that to folks who need to use donated equipment, they have enough problems already. I have never had a problem with a trimmer before this one and I have owned a few over the last 30 years.

It is great that the battery is the same as all our other Ryobi tools. I have now used it about a dozen times and the best things about it are that I can pick it up and go....just slot in the battery which I keep charged starts immediately, there are no gas fumes, no pulling of starter cables, and if I don't quite finish the job before the battery runs down.....I can plug it in and then it actually becomes more powerful. Not as powerful as a gas is not for thick brush......but convenience makes up for a lot if you are not needing a trimmer for heavy work. If you have a lot of ground to cover...stick with a gas trimmer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dependable I got tired of using a gas trimmer, it never ran when I need it the most. Electric trimmers is where is at! I don't like that it only runs for 10 minutes. I did get 2 extra battery's to solve that problem. Plus I do have ryobi power tools that use the same battery. So I can use it for over 1 hour with np. This trimmer is perfect for the weekend garner DIY. It has a little less powder than the gas trimmer but it still does a fine job. Considering it's dependable and it runs when I need it. Also if none of the battery's are charge I can always plug the power cord. Love the hybrid capability. I almost got the 40v one but then I saw the price of battery's and I went with this trimmer , glad I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flexibility! Circumstances have prevented me from using my new trimmer very much, but I was pleased with the performance it provided. I already owned other Ryobi tools so it was also helpful to add another charger and two more 18V batteries to my arsenal. That said, I do have one issue which I expect will be easily resolved - the metal clip that holds the battery in place somehow became bent and despite some modest effort to straighten it, the battery function no longer works. I was therefore obliged to use the trimmer in the electric cord mode only, which is fine, but I want to have the ability to go cordless too. I expect it is a quick and simple repair under warranty with Ryobi. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of two Worlds I was looking for a good cordless trimmer but saw this one in the store. I do not like the weight and mess of the gas powered versions for the amount of work to be done at one go. This has worked out fantastic. I can use an extension cord while close to the house and an outlet but then easily switch to the battery to reach the outlying areas. The smaller battery works fine for me though I know I can purchase larger batteries that will last longer if needed. I look forward to using this trimmer for a long time. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Short life on battery and poor construction The salesman indicated initially that it takes longer than a gas powered trimmer/edger would take (that his back yard took 45 minutes instead of 30). I could live with that but he didn't mention the battery charge only lasts 10 minutes. There is a power cord option but the idea was to make things more simple, not more complicated. might as well have just got a corded option. Spool for the trimming line is very poorly built as well. Because it's battery powered it only has one leg coming off of it instead of the standard two that you would normally see. This also slows the process. WOULD NOT recommend.
