Questions & Answers

What Model Battery Does This Take? I Can Find No Reference on Ryobi Website.

I purchased string trimmer P2006 last year but dead this spring. It took battery P104. Bought almost identical P2060 but it takes P105 battery which is smaller. I do not want to buy this without battery and find out it take neither one.

Please don't bother. the 18 V battery works with this trimmer, but this trimmer doesn't work AT ALL (on its 2nd use). Efforts to return defective product has been an effort in futility. BTW, I own several Ryobi products - Drill, Weed Eater, Blower - all of which I'm satisfied with. The trimmer, however, has been a TOTAL disappointment.

How many in this forum have owned their Ryobi hedge trimmer for more than one season, or have used it for more than one season?

I read a comment from someone in the forum how the hedger died after using it a '2nd time.' I'd like to know before I buy this product. Although, I own an electric edger and I've used a 2nd season now and I'm happy with that purchase. The person who posted the blog didn't exactly say how his trimmer led to 'burning out. Like, was he cutting a really thick branch?
Asked by: Tony
I purchased the combo kit (hedge trimmer and blower w/ battery and charger) on 4/28/16. Hedge trimmer died on 7/14/17. Lasted about a year for light residential use. Started smoking fairly badly with very light use, and then the last time we tried to use it, the unit froze up completely after a few minutes. I did get the 2 yr. extended warranty because I have not had much luck with hedge trimmers lasting very long (gas or battery). We have boxwoods and viburnum hedges, but nothing of great thickness or difficulty. The downside with Ryobi is the 3 year warranty is very attractive, but you need to make sure you have a service center nearby. Ryobi does not honor their products directly, and you must go thru a service facility to get the warranty fulfilled. You can check their website for a service/repair facility. The extended warranty does not start until the manufacturer's warranty ends, so I do not even have this as a fallback for another 2 years...

I wasn't expecting a battery powered trimmer to be heavy duty, but this one was still disappointing. The blades move much slower than my corded electric Black and Decker, and they stop when they encounter any stem bigger than about 1/8 inch. I have a huge pencil cactus in my yard that grows like a demon. This trimmer wouldn't even make a dent in it. I gave up and got out my corded trimmer, which did the job no problem. This trimmer is OK for young ixoras, landscape grass, and very light bushes, but that's about it.

I really like the Ryobi ONE+ series, as there are many different useful tools for one type of battery. This trimmer works well on light cuttings and is very handy. However, has an Achilles' heal: The handle. Mine has broken twice, right where it screws to the body. Very weak design. I try gluing it with different types of epoxy, but eventually you will buy another handle. Which breaks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from More of a chewer than a trimmer I'm a big fan of ryobi tools and had yet to have a disappointing experience with them until purchasing the 18 v one+ trimmer. I used it right out of the box and it more or less chewed and mangled the hedge rather than cut it. Cuts were not remotely clean and left extremely frayed ends. I had to make more passes to do the job than when I had my seven year old black and decker. The blades appeared to be sharp, so I'm not entirely certain if it's the blades or how they intersect that's causing the issue. I'll sharpen the blades prior to using again and hope for a better result. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The first time I used this trimmer on a single plant, it worked just okay...had to go over it several times. The second time, it didn't work at all.. I even held the plant in my left hand, placed the blade directly on the plant (and NOT a thick plant, mind you), turned it on, and NOTHING...didn't cut it at all. Explored returning the trimmer online...told me there wasa problem, and tat I needed to see a store associate. Went to my store, where the store associate told me that didn't make sense, and couldn't help me in store on an online return. Came home, went online, and see a technical issue that offers no help. Bottom line: products sucks, Customer Service sucks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light duty trimmer I currently have the "One" 18v lithium battery and other accessories so I was excited to complement my list with a trimmer. Initially it hummed through my tall grasses pruning them low for the spring growth. But it didn't take long for it to slow and stagger through the process where I had to pull out my manual cutters. Disappointed, I recharged the battery hoping that tobe the issue. But it is still sluggish. I lubed it hoping to restore it back to good, but haven't had good results yet. Not sure if I just got a bad item, but after only two weeks it has not performed up to my expectations. Not sure of my future decision at this time, or need to step up to the higher voltage lithium series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The hedge trimmer worked as desired. However, there were two things that I have issues with. Fi... The hedge trimmer worked as desired. However, there were two things that I have issues with. First, the location of the safety switch, which has to be held on to operate the trimmer. It is in a very awkward position to reach and hold the trigger as well. Needs a re-design! Second, speed of the blades could be improved. The trimmer has to be moved slowly to allow time for the blades to cut, or have new material enter for cutting. Over all, the convenience of having a battery powered trimmer is worth the inconvenience of the above mentioned improvement needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cordless convenience I picked up this hedge trimmer because I have several One+ Tools that use the same charging system so I had a matching battery already. It works well and is very convenient not to have to have a cord dangling. In fact, I had severed two extension cords before with my last trimmer, so this might be a safer option for me! I gave it four stars because I am not sure that it is overly powerful, although I have not put it to the test with a serious cutting project yet. Note: This item is only sold online and it does not come with a battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good little hedge cutter I have never owned a hedge trimmer before bit with a big yard was getting tired of doing it. I have several Ryobi tools and thought why not give it a try I already have the batteries. This is not a heavy duty cut through anything model but sure has done the trick for what I need. Goes through pencil thickness bushes. I really like it so far. Gave it 4 stars only because I have never owned one before and thought it was slower than expected but still got the job done just fine.
