What Model Battery Does This Take? I Can Find No Reference on Ryobi Website.

I purchased string trimmer P2006 last year but dead this spring. It took battery P104. Bought almost identical P2060 but it takes P105 battery which is smaller. I do not want to buy this without battery and find out it take neither one.

All of the Ryobi 18Volt batteries for the 50+ series tools but I recommend any of the black and gray batteries if you need more run time. P105 or P102

Will the 18-volt trimmer work with my current Lithium 18v batteries I currently have for my other Ryobi Products?

Asked by: checker
Not necessarily. I bought a Ryobi string trimmer just a year ago. Went to use this spring and dead even though battery 104 was charged. I went to store and purchased almost identical trimmer. The only difference is the color of the charger. Turns out that trimmer takes a 105 battery which is smaller so I cannot even use the old battery as a spare. Per the manufacturer literature with the new one, the battery brochure is for 102 and 105. So I am going to find out before I buy this, which battery it takes. What if it takes neither?

The P2605's blade is riveted together, not fastened by nuts & bolts, therefore it can not be professionally sharpened. While the manual for this hedge trimmer discusses how the owner might go about sharpening the blade with a particular type of file, there is no recommended tooling or jigging to assure the proper sharpening angle nor any way of securely holding the blade (& motor unit) in a vise. The blade assembly is not a replaceable part. Nothing on the box disclosed that the blade is not replaceable or that the blade construction precludes sharpening. Home Depot selling this unit means they are implicitly endorsing the sale of a "throw away" item. Neither Home Depot or Ryobi customer service would do anything for me. AVOID this item (and consider what this says about Home Depot and the Ryobi company) !

I wasn't expecting a battery powered trimmer to be heavy duty, but this one was still disappointing. The blades move much slower than my corded electric Black and Decker, and they stop when they encounter any stem bigger than about 1/8 inch. I have a huge pencil cactus in my yard that grows like a demon. This trimmer wouldn't even make a dent in it. I gave up and got out my corded trimmer, which did the job no problem. This trimmer is OK for young ixoras, landscape grass, and very light bushes, but that's about it.

It works well on bush limbs up to 0.25 in diameter. If the branch is Between 0.25" and 0.5", the blades will not cut all the way through the limb and the trimmer motor will stop; usually once you free the trimmer, the branch will fall off. We use a 4 amp-hr battery to allow about 30 minutes of use. The one big negative with this trimmer is the black handle. It has no strength in its attachment and we have broken it twice already. It really is a design defect. Replacement handles cost about $5 plus shipping. My recommendation is to buy a couple if the original breaks as you'll eventually need them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light duty trimmer I currently have the "One" 18v lithium battery and other accessories so I was excited to complement my list with a trimmer. Initially it hummed through my tall grasses pruning them low for the spring growth. But it didn't take long for it to slow and stagger through the process where I had to pull out my manual cutters. Disappointed, I recharged the battery hoping that tobe the issue. But it is still sluggish. I lubed it hoping to restore it back to good, but haven't had good results yet. Not sure if I just got a bad item, but after only two weeks it has not performed up to my expectations. Not sure of my future decision at this time, or need to step up to the higher voltage lithium series.

I really like the Ryobi ONE+ series, as there are many different useful tools for one type of battery. This trimmer works well on light cuttings and is very handy. However, has an Achilles' heal: The handle. Mine has broken twice, right where it screws to the body. Very weak design. I try gluing it with different types of epoxy, but eventually you will buy another handle. Which breaks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cordless convenience I picked up this hedge trimmer because I have several One+ Tools that use the same charging system so I had a matching battery already. It works well and is very convenient not to have to have a cord dangling. In fact, I had severed two extension cords before with my last trimmer, so this might be a safer option for me! I gave it four stars because I am not sure that it is overly powerful, although I have not put it to the test with a serious cutting project yet. Note: This item is only sold online and it does not come with a battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it keep in mind i've never owned a hedge trimmer. heck, this is the first time i've ever trimmed a hedge, so this for what it's worth. the trimmer is very well balanced. i had no trouble with vertical or horizontal cuts. easily cut large decorative hedges, though all limbs were 3/8" or smaller. i didn't give it 5 stars because i'd like to use it a few more times before i rave about it. so far, it was a very good purchase. Ordered the ONE+ 18 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Hedge Trimmer to replace black & decker corded which worked fine for years but got tired of dragging 100 foot cord around. Very disappointed. Tried to trim my barberry and boxwoods. The hard old branches cut well but the tender new growth would not cut clean. All it did was shred the tender growth and left a pulpy stringy mess. Totally useless, returning it to store immediately.
