Customer Questions & Answers

What Model Battery Does This Take? I Can Find No Reference on Ryobi Website.

I purchased string trimmer P2006 last year but dead this spring. It took battery P104. Bought almost identical P2060 but it takes P105 battery which is smaller. I do not want to buy this without battery and find out it take neither one.

All of the Ryobi 18Volt batteries for the 50+ series tools but I recommend any of the black and gray batteries if you need more run time. P105 or P102

Will the 18-volt trimmer work with my current Lithium 18v batteries I currently have for my other Ryobi Products?

Asked by: checker
Not necessarily. I bought a Ryobi string trimmer just a year ago. Went to use this spring and dead even though battery 104 was charged. I went to store and purchased almost identical trimmer. The only difference is the color of the charger. Turns out that trimmer takes a 105 battery which is smaller so I cannot even use the old battery as a spare. Per the manufacturer literature with the new one, the battery brochure is for 102 and 105. So I am going to find out before I buy this, which battery it takes. What if it takes neither?

It does a nice job for small areas as it is designed for light weight use! The cutting blades are fixed and non-adjustable. It's important to keep these blades sharp and oiled all of the time! The oscillation speed was slower than I had expected, but it'll do the job if you have extra time. I find it cuts up to 1/4" stock okay, but larger limbs are a bit more difficult. I was nicely surprised at how long the larger (4ah) lithium battery lasted. It would be nice to see a Hybrid version of this model. In all.. It's a nice light weight trimmer!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good trimmer but a bit lacking in cutting depth I received the unit on time as promised. The shipping info was great, kept me informed along the way. I already have several Ryobi 18V tools so this one seemed like a good addition. It started right up once the battery was installed. It trimmed the rhododendrons with no problems. However it got stuck a few times with some of the thicker boxwoods. I appreciate the versatility of a cordless trimmer but it definitely doesn't have the power of a corded unit. If you have more mature bushes/hedges, you may want something a bit more powerful. As for battery life, I was able to trim 4 rhododendron bushes and 2 arbervetaes before recharging my P107 battery and then trimmed another arbervetae, 2 fire bushes and 4 boxwoods the next day on one charge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet, Light Weight, Effective First edge trimmer I have used, so I can't say how it compares to others. It was very effective on a tall cedar hedge. The light weight allowed it to be used at full arm extension while standing on a ladder. It does use up batteries pretty quickly, so many spares or downtime for recharge will be needed for big jobs. It jams when encountering branches too big to cut - to be expected, but it would be nice to have a feature to reverse the cut and release the branch instead of having to wrestle it out of the trimmer's blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect way to shape up those bushes! This trimmer, when used with a fully charged 4ah battery, is a workhorse. I bought this for trimming and shaping overgrown rose bushes and a latfe Weeping Cherry that is taking over the yard, and it worked wonders in no time at all. Having only ever used corded hedge trimmers previously, I was quite honestly surprised at how well this trimmer functioned.. The weight balance was ideal, and not once did it ever jam while thinning and shaping the willow-like Weeping Cherry tree.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for our needs The hedger works great for our needs. We only have a few bushes on our property and they all have pretty thin branches. We mostly use the hedger in between landscaper visits to spruce up the bushes. Don't expect to cut any branch thicker than a standard pencil but for basic hedging and bush maintanance this hedger works great, especially for the price. I fits really well in your hands and handles very well also. Plus I love the fact that I can use the standard Ryobi battery

I really like the Ryobi ONE+ series, as there are many different useful tools for one type of battery. This trimmer works well on light cuttings and is very handy. However, has an Achilles' heal: The handle. Mine has broken twice, right where it screws to the body. Very weak design. I try gluing it with different types of epoxy, but eventually you will buy another handle. Which breaks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good hedge trimmer for the price Good addition to the One+ series, especially if you already have the battery and charger. I was able to trim 3 large shrubs on a single charge with no signs of power loss. The shrubs varied from very small stems to larger (1/4" - 3/8") branches and the trimmer had no issues with either type. The safety buttons are slightly awkward to hold while reaching, but overall a good product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent trimmer! The trimmer was everything I expected. I pulled it out of the box, stuck a 4x lithium battery in it and went to work. Trimmed up all the bushes around my house that had gotten a little overgrown and these made short work of them. I was able to do them all and have battery power to spare. No cords to deal with is great. I would highly recommend.
